The good, bad and ugly from a first timer

First time when we dropped of our DD at kids club she seemed fine so we went ahead to our Paolo brunch. Just when we were being taken to our table my phone rang and I told my party to go ahead without me and I will take care of my kid instead, writing of that fancy brunch :'( On my way out the lady at the reception asked me why I was leaving and told her that the kids club called (or send me a txd?) as my kid wanted to leave. So she called the kidsclub for me and told them about me having brunch and hung up. She then told me that it is quite common and if kids want to leave CM will immediately contact the parents. But if the parents have any particular plans on the boat the CMs will add extra effort to keep the kid comfortable entertained so the adults don't have to abandon their plans and that it always works out fine. I rejoined my group and we may have kept an eye on the phone for a little while longer but quickly forgot about the incident due to the amazing food :P Afterwards when we picked her up my DD was in a princess dress and barely wanted to leave and no problem since. I agree a testrun on their own is the way to go.

I cannot comment on the kids clubs because we have never used them. With regard to the comment cards. I wish you would have spoken up to the head waiter about it being constantly addressed by your servers. They are not suppose to do that. Whenever a cast member does something like this that makes you uncomfortable you need to tell someone about it. We have had this happen in the past. We addressed the issue with the head waiter and the problem was solved. What we have learned after 4 DCL sailings is the management usually does not know about a problem if no one tells them.
The head waiter was one of the people doing it. I did mark yes on the comment card when they asked did you feel pressure.

Bad:
I understand that their jobs may depend on it, but every time you engaged in conversation with someone they were pushing you for that excellent rating on the comment card. If it is that important do an excellent job and you will get the rating. At dinner alone three people would push this every night.

This behavior is probably not their choice. I work in a phone customer service position and we are told we MUST ask if we provided a level of service that is predetermined by the higher ups at the end of every call. Its all corporate directive.

I noticed you stayed in room 12000. Did you like the location? We just changed to this room after it became available.

Sorry to hear about Shutters and the Kids Club, sounds like the rest went really well! Any pictures?

I kinda wish I took pics but totally left the pics to shutters. The only time I took my phone out was to film the fireworks as my son loves them but can't handle the noise, so I filmed it so he can view it later. Other than that, it was nice not to have it out. Like Disney always does, it created awesome memories I'll never forget.

I would like to say thank you to all on the DIS for being sympathetic about the kids club and shutters, but everything can't go perfect and I will not let that stop me from enjoying my trip. I am trying to plan another for our anniversary in the future. I guess I should have been more specific that the service on the ship was absolutely amazing and that's why we choose Disney for our first cruise. Like I said earlier please don't make any decisions off my experience as I am sure these are rare. My only regret is going concierge on my first because it will be kinda hard to go without it knowing about the coffee machine and happy hours!!!

I'm sorry you had that experience because it definitely can make it awkward. I can assure you this is not the norm.

When we took our daughter to the club while at Palo on the Dream, we got the text saying she wanted to be picked up. We called to see what was up and they actually APOLOGIZED to us for the text and said she is fine now, no need to pick her up. I think they have to let you know if a kid requests pickup but you can always just call to check in with them before going all the way down there to pick them up. Sorry you had a bad experience. :(

Thanks for your review. Looking forward to our 1st cruise when will sail in 2 weeks 4 days! :boat:
