Our garbage is supposed to be on the curb by 7AM. It has been for the past 3 weeks, but apparently there must be new drivers on our route because they have forgotten to pickup the trash twice in the past three weeks. To make sure that it isn't our fault for missing the 7AM cutoff, we've been putting out the trash on Thursday night. Unfortunately, the critters in our neighborhood are having a veritable smorgasboard, tearing open the garbage bags and causing us to have to rebag the trash on Friday morning. To top it off, we held our son's graduation party last Sunday, so we had a larger than normal amount of trash this week.

My daughter called up the company responsible for picking up our garbage and they told her that a supervisor would swing by Monday morning and that we should just leave our trash on the curb until then. By Monday morning I fear that our trash will be spread all over the neighborhood.

I called the city service department to register a complaint. I don't expect them to come and haul away my trash, but I did want it on record that I was told to leave my trash out all weekend and that the city might want to reconsider their choice regarding garbage collection.

I guess that I should be happy that, for over 20 years, our garbage pickup has been very reliable. But since we started having to pay for the service, it seems to have gone downhill.

Oh well. I suppose there are worse things in life to deal with. :confused3

Our trash hasn't been picked up for two weeks and we're heading out for vacation. We thought it there might be a lapse since the property we rent was just sold to out-of-town owners, but DH called and verified that we are still on the list for pick up. It had better not be sitting there when we get back next weekend.

We've had problems with our garbage pickup for the past couple of months. The city has been receiving a lot of complaints. In the monthly newsletter, the mayor said they were trying to work out the problems with Waste Management. Part of the problem is that Waste Management took it upon themselves to change pickup schedules WITHOUT notifying anyone, including the city. I'll be glad when it gets back to normal. I hope you get things resolved quickly.

John, I don't know if you put your garbage out in the bags on the curb. Or do you put the bags in a garbage can out on the curb. I have a problem with critters getting into my garbage also. I bought bungee cords at Target and attached them to the handles of my garbage cans to keep the lids on. Those stupid critters can knock down the cans but if I put the bungee cord on tight they stay out of the garbage.

Because of the party, we had more bags than cans. And for some reason, my DW Sue likes to pull the bags out of the cans and just leave them on the curb. Of course, she may change her mind after having had to rebag all of our trash for the past month or so. I think that I might finally have her convinced to leave the bags in the trash cans.

I suppose that there is a silver lining to all of this. I can haul all that extra stuff that I've been meaning to throw away to the curb so that the manager who swings by on Monday morning isn't disappointed by having to make a special trip. I guess that I should let my neighbors know that there is going to be an extra pickup too. At my house.

Am I over-reacting??? :furious:

You are not over-reacting. I would be very upset if my garbage didn't get picked up. We have a new system. We were given cans on wheels and the garbage goes in there. We are limited by the size of the can.

Oh yuck, John! I'd be mad if I were you as well! Definitely not over reacting either in my book. Good luck with the extra trash this weekend. I hope it won't be smelling or strewn everywhere by Monday!!!

Maybe you should forget to pay. :confused3 You are paying for a reliable service and they have become somewhat unreliable. I'm sure they'd like their $$. And they should get it when they do their job.

Sounds like a couple of close calls. :scared: If it hit your home in the past, I hope it only grazed the garage with minimal damage. I suggest you keep indoors when that "I-wanted-to-be-a-wrecker" garbage truck comes a-callin'. Stand too long in its path and you'll get tired...
