PTC is a must do for me too... unfortunatly DH has requested Sci-Fi so I will have to miss it this next trip.... I am still trying to find a way to fit it in though lol

Great to see you back. :cool1:

I think it's awesome that everyone gets along so well...especially the kids.:goodvibes

Love the pics, too.

Don't make us wait so long next time- 'k???

Another great read Jami!!!! Making me want to go to WDW with lots of friends....but sadly I'm not sure I have it in me! I'm so happy it went so well for you!
Katy

Katy!! Yes you do!

Planning for 16 adds to the fun!

Great installment, again!

I got a little jealous reading about your dining experience at Prime Time because when me and my family went there for the first time a couple of years ago we had a horrible server. She had no personality and was a bit nasty. We were so exicted to finally be eating at Prime Time because we were good and ready to be yelled at, embarrased and chastised for bad behavior. Oh well, what can you do? But, I do have to say that your experience was a great read and everything the Prime Time Cafe is about. I do remember our servers name, but out of respect to her privacy I will not be naming names, no need to start a smear campaign- even though I would like to. ;)

You all are so kind! I am on a roll! Let's keep going and thank you for the reading and comments!:yay:

Cledus and Shrek had been talking about a Disney fishing excursion since the planning began in November. Our family had done this last March (see TR link below) and loved it! Then it was on Bay Lake we launched from the Poly. This time the Fixer and Gatelatch families were scheduled in separate (competing) vessels from the Yacht and Beach Club Marina. The $1,000 Buzz Lightyear bet resurfaced and was now a double-fisted winner take all fishing wager that involved biggest fish, most fish, and seventeen subcategories.

Can we talk about gambling on the Dis?

The Teacher and Coattails stayed at MGM and we confirmed our plans for later in the day.

As we walked to the park exit Shrek and I talked:

Honey, you don’t have to go fishing if you don’t want to go.
Oh, but I want to be with you and the boys! I had a great time last year.

I know, but we’ll understand if you want to skip it.

Why would I want to skip it?

Come on. You know it’s not your thing and you could take a nap or go to the pool.

Well, if you really think you and the boys won’t mind, a nap DOES sound pretty tempting. I am a little tired.

People, I was tired.

The Trip Planner needs a nap about day two or three of the vacation. If you are the Trip Planner (and you are, because you are here) you can finally relax by this point and know you have done your job and everything is going according to plan.

I am not as nice a wife and mother as my friend the CookMaster. She went fishing.

Then again, she never ever EVER naps.

I have counseled her and done my best to fix that situation. I will go to meet my Maker trying.

That is a story for another day.

Our room was clean so I did not need special dispensation from Mousekeeping to take my nap. I gave everyone their confirmation numbers and sweatshirts and made sure Shrek had enough cash for the captain’s tip.

I announced I ‘might’ do some laundry and go to the pool but I would see everyone in three hours(!).

They left, I closed the blinds, and even turned tihe ringer to 'low.'

They had a terrific time. I heard many tall fish tales when they returned. Missy and Bill did a great job and the bets were declared a draw.

That's pretty much all I know about that.

I think Cledus loves to fish:

I opened my eyes to this:

DSC02279.jpg

Ahhhh….bliss. My sweet little son is always good for a wakeup snuggle, even if enormous Pooh joins us now.

My nap was exactly what I needed to recharge my battery for the evening. I called my Mom to find Granny was still in ICU, but very very slowly improving. She was off the respirator and actually taking nourishment! I could hear the relief in every word.

I wiped the black rings from under my eyes and swiped on some lipstick for I had a little date of my own. I was so excited! While the boys took a nap, I was headed to Epcot for a tiny meet with my Dis friends Yak and, for the first time and for a brief moment, PolyJen! They were dining with their families at The Coral Reef so I ran over to visit for a few minutes!

I think I skipped through the International Gateway and into Future World. I went by Guest Services at the front of the park to ask about the TWO hats we had lost there the previous 36 hours. They informed me they only keep items until the end of the day, so they would already be at the Ticket and Transportation Center.

Who knew?

Forget THAT!

I have some friends to hug!!

I walked into Coral Reef and saw that little blondie smiling right away! I was so happy to meet my internet-only friend and, as with other cyber-friends I have met, she was as warm and real in person as she has been through this screen. I know we must be careful, discerning adults, and I feel I am one, but I feel so very blessed and touched by the relationships I have found through my love for Disney.

Our other friend YAK walked in and joined our Circle of Love. I was envious of the time the two of them would have over dinner but knew I had more time with my YAK later and would see Jen again.

Friendships are fertile ground that can only grow if tended with good seeds, love, attention, water, and care. They takes time and investment but they don’t go away unless you neglect them or they simply run their natural course. I am terrible at gardening; maybe I spend more of my time on my relationship garden?

We do have a picture that captured how much our faces hurt from smiling that day:

DisneyMarch2007227.jpg

I sneaked in one more hug that I knew could last me awhile and left to return to my family.

They get it, and I am grateful. They see how much I crave people in my life and respect my need to fill up on conversation, eye-contact, laughter, visits, and phone calls. I appreciate that.

I was full of smiles as I stepped off the elevator back at the resort. I’m pretty certain I stopped in the lounge for a beer before I headed down the hall to find my family. I opened the door to our dark frozone room. The three boys were OUT and I left them alone while I re-loaded the bag for the evening’s adventure!

Up Next: Should sixteen people try late-night Extra Magic Hours?

Jami, what a lovely chapter!!! I am with you on the nap part all the way!

Miss our old friend PolyJen, and Hi YAK! so nice to see a pic of all of you together.
Hi YAK, Hi Jen! and Hi Jami of course!

Fun! :cool1: A nice nap, good news about granny, and good friends to see. Not to mention a very nice and happy family. :goodvibes

Jami you are such a sweet, sweet woman. Can I be your friend too?

Jami...another great installment. It is great to hear that your granny was still on the mend. I bet that did a lot to ease your soul! HOW FUN...a DIS meet!! And those fish...wow. Tell Cledus that I am impressed with his catch! ;) I am anxious to hear about your late night adventures at MK!! Keep up the great writing!

Jami!!!

Oh, how I love your precious family. My daughter (she will be FIVE when we go in December) has already said she wants to ride TOT. I am so scared for her! She'll love the up and down, it's the dark and the ghosts that I think will be too much for her. We shall see what she decides when faced with it! I would love to be able to tease the husband about the fact that his five year old GIRL is brave enough to ride TOT and he is NOT!!!

I'm so glad, though, that Evan decided to ride and that he LOVED it! What's not to love????

Keep it coming, Sissy! GREAT job!

Shwew! Finally caught up!

Terrific report Jamal-- sounds like you couldn't ask for a better family or group of friends! :goodvibes

I am just loving this trip report! Please keep it coming! I can't wait to hear more about all your adventures.

Just found this yesterday and caught up on all the posts today.

First of all- so sorry about Shrek's father. I don't know the whole story but it sounds like you were prepared in a way and have been comforted much. I hope that you still have peace about this.

Second- so glad Granny didn't go downhill. I am assuming she recovered fully and is still with you and that makes me happy because it is not fun to lose our Grandmas. Mine died last February at the age of 72 and I miss her everyday.

Third- THANK YOU for sharing your trip report. I love TGM and you are following many of his strategies so well- it's great to hear they work just as well during busy Spring Break season. What a wonderful vacation to have with both family and friends that you get along with so well! That is my dream.

So happy to read up on your adventures and eagerly awaiting more!

Jami....still here!

Caught up on the last two installments this morning.

Again I am amazed at your mad planning skillz and ability to keep all 16 people happy, have a DIS meet and still get a nap.

I love the way the guys try to get you to stay behind while they fish. Sounds like my son when he wants to be alone...."don't you have something else you want to do?" :)

What do they DO with the fish you catch on the trip anyway??? Catch and release? Serve at the Flying Fish? Taxidermy?

And I love the picture of the two little rosy-cheeked, sleepy-eyed sweeties after the nap. So cute!

Gasp.

Lexmelinda, it is catch and release! Well, that's what we did. Believe me, Shrek would be all over any other option. It is a great way to spend a few hours. We can't recommend it enough!

bdlily Brooke--I am so so sorry about your grandma. I am also very glad you have GOOD memories.

The rest of you kind KIND people.

I am here. I am writing. NOW!

Please give me another chance.

This baby bird is back and will take off again in a few...somethings.

I opened the curtains.

The snoring increased. The boys’ bed didn’t budge.

My men were plum tired from an MGM morning and an afternoon of reeling ‘em in.

I finished my beer and watched them sleep.

Have I mentioned how comfortable the Beach Club beds were? I’ve never stayed at the Swan/Dolphin but these beds were mighty fine for the Fixers.

Maybe we were just tired.

I have come to appreciate someone making my bed for me even if I am paying an astronomical price for that service. Disney World is one place where Mousekeeping (any housekeeping) is greatly appreciated. We always leave ‘Thank you Mousekeeping’ envelopes with a few dollars a day. The boys love doing this and I thank the Dis for hooking me up to the printable envelopes a few years ago.

Here, you can try it, too. This is one example of many you can print on envelopes before you leave home. Heidi Wolff

It was time to put the suspended plan back into action. Naptime was over.

We sing all the time at Disney World, don’t you? The music plays everywhere, so you can just Give a Little Whistle, Look For the Bare Necessities, or wish you were Part of That World any time it strikes your fancy.

It struck my fancy that it would be an excellent way to wake my men at that moment.

“It’s a world of laughter, a world of tears.
It’s a world of hope and a world of fears
There’s so much that we share
That it’s time we’re aware
It’s a small world after all.”

Sorry.

They were, too.

It got them moving—fast-- in hopes of hearing better music in the course of the evening.

My boys hopped into their evening clothes and skipped down the hall for a soft drink with the Gatelatch crew before we left our beloved 5th floor.

I continued to sing and think about singing. I even wrote it in my little trip report notebook. I told you in last year’s report that the CookMaster is a songbird. I wish you could hear her! The rest of us WISH we could belt it out like she can but alas, we were meant to listen or sing in the shower. She had my dear niece and the President’s daughter, just cast for her to direct them in the school play as Cinderella and the Queen, so we enjoyed listening to her teaching them songs from the script as we skipped through the World. Her own DS 10 has a fabulous voice, but has sights on his band as lead drummer or guitarist first.

The rest of us are simply Confident Singers. We probably embarrass the CookMaster. Maybe we are the source of Cledus’ ear pain. As I look through my pictures, it’s all coming together.

Hmmm…

I can’t worry about that right now. We’re on our way to….MGM Extra Magic Hours (nope, not Magic Kingdom!).

As usual, we meet everyone in the lobby of our beautiful Beach Club and catch the lovely launch to the Studios.

We never do the Fantasmic! dinner package. I know many of you do and I’m sure it works out great for you.

Well, I lied.

Memory segue.
This could take a minute.

Maybe this is why we don’t do it anymore.

We did it once when we were there with the Teacher and her family and my Daddy when my A and her B were 7 and my niece (Cinderella) was 5. Daddy was buying then and we ate at the Brown Derby. BD was on the Fantasmic! dinner package back in the day. Daddy wasn’t up for much walking on that trip and we knew the kids wouldn’t be up for a long wait in their seats. It seemed like a great idea and, actually, it was the right thing to do.

See, Daddy was the fourth child on that particular vacation. Let me say that again. My sister and our husbands and I had four children on that trip. It was man on man for five hysterical days. Imagine a retired Middle Eastern pediatrician watching his grandchildren scamper around the World taking risks (he’s going to ride that thing? Oh my ***!) BUT wanting to be a part of their every experience by buying them everything their hearts desired.

Pair that with at least two adults (me and BIL) with color coordinated spreadsheets and well-timed ADRs.

I loooove my Daddy but he is slow, easily distracted (you have no idea), and stops to look in every store/wanders away just like a child. “Where’s Daddy?” “Do you have Daddy?” “ I thought you were watching Daddy!” and “Hang on, Daddy wandered into that store/sat on that bench/is talking to that CM.” were the most common phrases on that 2001 trip.

Now I know how I learned to walk backwards in Disney World and orchestrate moving crowds around the parks with some efficiency. If we could do it with my sweet Daddy in the mix, these recent trips would be a cinch.

Hi Daddy! Hi Teacher sister!

IMG_0342.jpg

OK, back to MGM, March 2007. Thank you for going back in time with me. I needed that.

This one was a cinch because, again, as I was saying before I started thinking about and telling you all about my Daddy and the Fantasmic! dinner package and experience in 2001, we just went to the ABC Commissary for a (not very) delicious dinner BUT some very pleasant eye candy.

Did you know they have Supersize posters of ABC TV shows and stars there?

While I am not much of a TV watcher, I DO watch one particular show to catch my favorite neurosurgeon.

Kindly enough, Dr. McDreamy’s picture was largely displayed for our viewing pleasure in the ABC Commissary so my friends and I could enjoy it while we ate our commissary-issued burgers and wraps.

I think I am remembering the President and her family ate somewhere else then joined us at the Commissary but I am sure my dear Emeline will jump in here and set the facts straight.

After a bit more (there was never enough time, NEVER) conversation we packed it in to head over to the hideous, carnivalesque, stroller-laden, squeezy Fantasmic! line. Queue. Both.

Guess what?

The boys were hungry again! Starving!!!! They almost perished between ABC Commissary and the Fantasmic! line, so they ran over to Toluca Legs and a couple of other kiosks to load up on snacks that would sustain them through the line.

When we were finally seated in the land of far FARAWAY (no offense Disney) I again remembered that 2001 family trip and my darling niece…

The beautiful now-Cinderella was not quite 5 then. She was a round-cheeked curly-headed chatterbox and the love of my life. She was and is the closest thing to a daughter I will ever love, and that night she almost climbed up inside me.

Fantasmic! TERRIFIED her. I felt horrible. I held her candy-apple sweaty little head and body close to mine and covered her ears except to whisper encouragement during the entire show. She didn’t cry; she just didn’t want to look. I remember our hearts pounding together as I counted the seconds until Mickey emerged triumphant and she counted on me to do just that. I think she ate the sticky apple (who remembers how I feel about sticky??) the whole time. I can remember how it all felt, smelled and looked.

This night would be very different. She grabbed my hand when we were walking in and told me she remembered the last time, too. She said she thought she’d be OK now. We laughed.

She was fine.. We all loved the show! It was the first time for the Gatelatch family!

DSC02287.jpg

It’s time for me to tell you a bit more of the OGRE side of my darling Shrek’s ogre-with-a-heart name.

He announced, on this trip, to my dismay (but sadly, understanding) that he would not be returning to Fantasmic!

The one-entrance-one-exit thing undid him for the last time.

It’s just more than he can deal with on a logical level that Disney designed it that way.

He loves the Mouse and all the magic.

This setup just tears him up.

That’s the ONLY advantage to the dinner package.

Once we were out of there the giddiness began and the older kids reveled in the fact that we agreed to some late night Extra Magic.

Even the CookMaster, not known for her exuberance in late night antics, agreed to stay up for some Rockin’ and dropping.

DSC02292.jpg

We let them go.

We let them Rock.

We let them drop.

We let them Roll.

We did it too.

Shrek screamed the most.

We boated and bussed back to the resorts late with strict but pleasant orders to be ready to meet at the appointed spots for MORE coaster drops in the morning. Oh yeah, AK, here we come!
