The Everything and Nothing Thread

lala, is it back to school shopping time already? Wow, the summer is just flying by! :scared1:

What's your purse like?:goodvibes

I'll be there the month after you. I'm going in October for a girls' week with a friend I met here on the dis a few years ago. I was just there for a week in May with my husband but this will be my first "friends" trip and I'm really looking forward to it.
Okay, but if you girls stay up all night giggling, well, then, I guess...hmmm... I guess we'll just have to join you next time!

I know, it's strange to even think of back to school shopping! Nordstrom is having a sale on all of their fall clothes (which I find strange, but hey, it's good for me!) and so I grabbed a bunch for DD8. She never shops with me, and since I was able to get her out today, I figured I would get her some things!
I love my purse! It is Cole Haan and I got it on sale. It is a dark, snakeskin tote. I can't wait to start using it!

Eeep!

I am waiting to hear back from a Craigslist ad for an apartment in Toronto starting in September. It sounds almost too good to be true! It's $850 per month for a two bedroom, nice building, in a good neighbourhood close to the subway. I feel like it has to be some sort of scam(or typo:rotfl:)! I emailed the poster asking for photos and further details but I'm trying not to get my hopes up. With my roommate that would be $425 with utilities included!! That is just crazy for rent in this city. AND dogs are allowed which is a huge obstacle since I've got a golden doodle pup.

And Diznotyzed, I'm pretty hairy if I don't keep up with the situation... I'm one of those people who has to shave every day. Blegh.

Be very, very, very careful with Craigslist! My DS is looking for a 1 BR apt. for the fall (he currently shares a 3 BR house with 2 roommates). He told me about a listing on Craigslist for an apt. downtown, all utilities included, for around $500-$600. He emailed the poster for more info, got some pictures and a nice reply. The pictures looked really nice. So the poster tells him that, due to bad experiences with previous renters, she needs employment history and a credit score before even showing the apt. Of course he has no credit score, so he calls me. (We will be paying most of his rent) I told him I was not giving out any personal info to a stranger just to look at an apt. He tells me the poster says in her email that she doesn't want any personal info. She links a site to get a very quick credit rating, and all she needs is the number. I told my DS I was still not doing that, I would tell him the credit number we had from 3 years ago when we bought our new house, but I realized she had no way of verifying it. So he sent her that, but has not heard back from her about seeing the apt. Well, a few days ago, I was watching the local news when they ran a story about a scam on Craigslist, and it was the same ad! There were actually numerous similar-sounding ads, but the address was the same in all of them. Turns out there was no address to match that exactly. There was a complex near that address, but it was only 3 stories and the ads were sometimes for apts. on much higher floors. I don't know exactly how the scam operated, but thank goodness we didn't give them any info! The way the poster said she didn't want any personal info, just the credit number, was to make you think it was on the up and up. But my son and I figure the link she sent us to fill out the credit report was bogus and part of the scam.

We are still looking at Craigslist for an apt. for him, but we will never give out any info or put any deposits down without thoroughly checking it out. There are many legit listings on Craigslist, and that is how my daughter found her rent house in NOLA. Just be careful, and don't give any personal info out. I really hope yours is a legit posting and works out for you!

Jane-in-PA- We stayed at the marriot on Canal, so I stuck to the French Quarter and walked everywhere. I am really bad at directions, but the city was easy to navigate. I don't know about Mardi Gras...that might be a little crazy for me. I tried to avoid Bourbon St. whenever possible! I think I left that stage of life behind a long time ago! Ooh, forgot to add that I went to NOLA. Best desserts ever!
Disnotyzed- "Arsepaper" sounds like tp!:rotfl2:
Monny- I hope your baby is feeling better. If you want to look on the bright sie, projectile vomits only get worse for moms to clean up. Kids get bigger and their stomachs can hold more. DS is a puker. If he eats too much, if he runs around too soon, if he sees something gross...he gets the look! I rush him to a garbage can!

Believe me, I would never go to the Quarter for Mardi Gras. But there are lots of other areas for watching parades that are much tamer and family-friendly. It's been several years since we've gone to Mardi Gras in NOLA, but my kids go sometimes now that they are in their 20's, and I'm sure they go in the Quarter. I prefer not to know, though. ;) Why can't they go to Disney or skiing during Mardi Gras?

I'm actually just going to stay with a friend at her place and two other girlfriends are coming up. She lives in a beach town so it'll be like a bit of a vacation.:goodvibes We're planning on just hanging out, catching up, going to see a movie and having dinner out. Nothing "special" but we always have a good time!:lovestruc

Well, that sounds like my kind of weekend! Doesn't get any better than that, in my book. I'm sure you'll have a great time!

Are you watching SYTYCD tonight? Who are you rooting for? I really liked Alex but now that he is out, I think I like Kent and Lauren. Jose seems sweet, but I think he is my least favourite contestant.

Oh yes, in fact it's coming on right now! I like the same 2 as you - Kent and Lauren. That Kent is such a cutie. He reminds me of a little lamb!

Jose should be the one to go, because he is the most limited in dance style. But the judges seem to have fallen in love with him, and he can do no wrong in their eyes. I think either Ashley (how do they judge when someone can't dance due to injury?) or Adechike will go tonight. We'll see!

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences, Jane from PA! That's really unsettling. I'm so glad you weren't harmed by the scam at all! I'm pretty leery of such a low price so I will definitely want to see the place in person and talk to the landlord before giving over any personal information. But thank you for the reminder that you can never be too careful!:thumbsup2

So sad to see (spoiler)Ashley go home tonight.:sad1: Poor thing.

And I totally agree, I don't get all the judges' love for Jose. He's good at what he does but he is just not versatile and IMO doesn't have the technique to keep up no matter how nice he is.

What are your plans for the weekend?

No, you can't be too careful! And I'm not the most cautious person in the world when it comes to identity theft. I don't always shred stuff that I probably should; I think, "Oh, no one's going to go through my garbage." I just bet my DS was thinking, "Oh, Mom" and rolling his eyes when I told him I wasn't giving out the info. I mean, he wants that apartment! So it was a good lesson for both us us to be very guarded with the internet. And we didn't have to learn it the hard way. :thumbsup2 Good luck in your apt. search!

I actually thought for a minute tonight that Jose was going home. When the judge (Adam) asked Jose how he felt making it this far, I thought they were going to let him go.

We're going to our *camp* on Saturday. It's so blasted hot that we'll most likely end up watching TV inside, though. Hopefully we can take a boat ride or sit outside in the evening. Fall can't get here soon enough!

Oh goodness, I knew that's what you were doing! There was a whole "camp vs lake house" discussion. I'm sorry, I'm not always great with my memory.:rotfl: I can't imagine the heat in LA right now... I went to NOLA once when I was in grade 8 and I still remember walking outside of the hotel and feeling like I was walking straight into a hot tub!! My Canadian body just can't handle that heat!!

I thought the SAME thing about Jose. I'm really hoping he's gone next week but the judges just seem to love him so much.:confused3 Nigel raved about his solo but it didn't impress me at all.

:rotfl2: That's OK! That's why I didn't ask you what you were doing. I thought you might have already said, so I thought I'd go back and look before asking. ;) Which I haven't done yet, so what are your weekend plans?

My Louisiana body can't take this heat! ;) Instead of a snowbird who heads south during the winter, I could be a humiditybird who heads north during the summer!

To me, what Jose did tonight were tricks, not dancing. He's very good at it, but when he has to do actual dances, he just doesn't cut it. The show is "So You Think You Can Dance", not "So You Think You Can Spin Around On The Floor"

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Actually, I think you did! I'm the one having the girls weekend.;) You responded to me a few posts ago... take a peek at #146....:goodvibes

I'm feeling not so alone in my lack of DIS memory now, so thank you!:laughing:

I'm sure there is a lot of talent and hard work that go into break dancing, but I agree with you. It seems like they could just put any song on and do the same thing over and over! I probably sound ignorant and if there are any closet B-Boys or B-Girls on this thread I apologize in advance:rotfl: but IMO it is just not on the same level as the other dancing.

The judges always seem to love a popper or hip hop dancer who can't dance outside of the genre.

It was 102 here today and going to be 106 tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday. Anybody want to hang out with me this weekend?

Morning everyone....feeling crappy...migriane...UGH...hope everyone is having a good day

Morning Girls!

Oh no Dax, not a migraine! You're in good company- I get them every month. Stupid hormones.

Do you take anything for them?
I have found that two excedrin and a coke takes the edge off for me. Hope you feel better soon, and hope it doesn't last for days.:guilty:

Jane/Autumn--- you girls were quite chatty last night!:goodvibes I started reading your posts and fell asleep with the computer in my lap.

WE had bad storms last night but the sun is shining right now.

Hope everyone has a great day and has safe travels to everywhere they are headed for the weekend.

I think I might take the kids out shopping for a bit. That could be trouble:goodvibes

Good Friday Morning, everybody! :goodvibes

:o I'm sorry, autumnpalm! Gee, that's pretty scary. I can see if it was on page 2 or 3, but that was just 1 page ago! Of course I remember your girls' weekend. Yikes! It's going to take me a while to remember exactly which Sweet Nothing said what.

I was talking to my DD last night right when the SYTYCD results were happening (she doesn't really follow it). I was telling her how the judges loved Jose so much and I was sure he would be safe, so it was "No Way Jose". We busted out laughing, and I thought, "So that's how that saying came about!" We are easily amused!

Dax, I'm sorry you've got a migraine! I hope it goes away pretty soon. I used to get frequent headaches, but never migraines, and I just can't imagine how bad that would be. :sad1:

So we were that exciting, Jo? :rotfl2:

Glad your weather is better today. I wonder if the storms are headed down in my direction. Hope not - I hate bad weather!

Have fun shopping today!

This is the first season I've gotten really interested in the show. I love watching the hip hop dances, but sometimes they are limited in what else they can do. Wasn't it awesome seeing Alex, a ballet dancer, do that hip-hop routine with Twitch a few weeks ago? I'm so sorry he got hurt and can't continue.

106 degrees! OK, I'm not complaining anymore!

Good morning! It's a hot one here...heat index of 100 and high humidity. Yuck.

Going out to buy a tennis racket today. Wow. :rotfl2:

(my DS11 starts tennis camp on Monday, and the only racket we own is from the 60's! ;) )

Picking my DS15 up from camp tonight. I haven't seen him in two weeks. Well, I saw him for about 12 hours, in between trips. He was in Chicago on a mission trip the week before. I'm expecting that the next week will be hell...an overtired teenager. Lucky me!

Have a great day all!!

Jane-- No the Sweet Nothings are awesome.... :cool1: It's just my perimenopause self with my sleep/no sleep/forgetfulness etc going on. Some nights I sleep, some nights I don't. Last night was a sleeper!:goodvibes

I too am having trouble remembering which Sweet Nothing said what!:) It will take us a bit of time ---- but we'll all get there.:lovestruc

I haven't watched SYTYCD this season.
When my youngest DD was about 4, we would watch it and you know how they do the countdown- and then say "Soyouthinkyoucandance" really quick as they're dancing? Well, she would get up and dance while they were dancing and at the end when they would say that, she'd strike a pose and say "Shubba-Lubba". She thought that's what they were saying so-
that's what it's called around here.:rotfl:

So here's my Nothing for the day----
I had strange dreams last night...........
I dreamed I was walking on the beach with Slash.
Yes, THAT Slash- from Gun's n'roses and Velvet Revolver.:laughing: The worst part? Homeboy had on leather pants.
:rolleyes1

Anyone wanna interpret THAT dream?
:rotfl2:

Maybe he was hanging out in Pakey's neck of the woods??????:laughing::laughing:
