The Everything and Nothing Thread

I'm so glad Monday is over. I'm also glad the furniture shopping for our new office at work is done. The other VP (male) and I were in charge of the remodel/decorating project for our new building and it hasn't been a delightful project working with someone who has opposite tastes from me.

I love the "butt crack of dawn" saying and will have to remember it. When we go to WDW, we have flights that leave by 6am. Coming from left coast, it's either do that or get in late at night. I'm still trying to decide on my Egypt airfare. I've finally decided on the flights but now can't decide if I'm going to upgrade or not. From home, including layovers, it's about 27 hours to get there. That's a long time to spend in airports and folded into a coach seat.

I think it's only going to be 102 here today. We've hit a cooling trend.

Lala: Congratulations to your daughter!! I work with disabled children and there are a lot of them involved in similar programs and it makes such a difference for them. I hope she has a safe trip!

Thank you! She is really looking forward to her trip. It is really rewarding for her!

My other daughter (she will be 20) just booked a trip to go to Europe next summer over college break! I cannot believe it, but I am so excited for her! She is going for 30 days with a college break company. She will go to London, Paris, Amsterdam, Venice, Florence, Rome, Barcelona, Madrid, and more I think. She went to Italy with her high school and loved it.
Not much planned for today. It is HOT here once again, but I think that after today it may cool a bit.
Hope everyone has a great day!

It has been a crazy few days. Went on a mission trip this weekend with the Youth from our church, Boss was back in the office yesterday after a weeks vacation and my sister is in the hospital in Orlando. Maybe things will clam down soon.

Hey, Sweet Nothings! You ladies have really been posting away. Your lives must be filled with nothings! I worked almost all weekend. I'm a server, and it was busy all weekend. I think it was too hot for people to want to cook and too hot to grill out. I made some good tips, though.
lala- Your dd's trip sounds amazing. What a great experience! A lot of my classmates do similar things, but not me...that's the price I pay for being a mom and full-time student!
Momof2DisneyBoys- Air Tran makes me angry! They screwed up our honeymoon flight big time! They gave us a partial refund, but I stick with Southwest now.
Diznotyzed- Twilight is okay. I did read the books, but I was kind of "meh" after I read them. I don't get the hype.
Dax- Sorry things are crappy at work. I used to work at a bank and it was the worst as far as gossip/backstabbing went...too many women in one small area.

Crack/Butt crack/Crap of dawn...dd (the one who inspired my name here) saw an episode of Jon and Kate in WDW. She swore up and down they went to a restaurant for breakfast called "Crack of Dawn." She wanted to know where it was. I said I didn't think there was such a place. She said, "Yes! They said they were meeting for breakfast at the crack of dawn!":rotfl2: She's our little blonde (although she's a brunette!).

Hey everybody!
I stayed up too late watching the Mad Men marathon last night. Anybody besides me looking forward to the premier on Sunday?

lala - what great opportunities for your daughters! I'm amazed at the travel available to this generation! My oldest daughter worked a summer in Belgium and was able to visit France, Spain and The Netherlands on her time off. Later she lived in Costa Rica for a year and 1/2. Meanwhile, I've been to Epcot ;)

kymmyk - I hope your sister is okay. Where was your mission trip?

Too funny! I hope you're writing this stuff down! You can probably write a book some day!

Joan

They are trying to save Dsis foot, hoipe they do not have to amputate. Mission trip was just a 2 day trip to Birmingham and we painted an elderly ladies house house homeowners insurance was going to cancel her policy if her house was not painted :confused3, it was in a very poor section of town and all the houses looked bad. But we had a great time and learned that the area were we worked in was where the bombing occurred during the 60's.

Janet B- Have a fun time and a safe trip!:thumbsup2

Thanks - we did!
JanetB- have a fun time wherever it is you're journeying to! Don't lose a shoe on the way back. Make sure you come home with trousers. And make sure they're your trousers lest you be called a roustabouter without trousers or something another.

Um ... had my pants, but "misplaced" the swimsuit.

Hi everyone! I am kinda new to the boards but a long time lurker. I am so glad there is a place to talk jibber jabber!

I love to jibber jabber too!

Here's what I have been pondering lately: I keep seeing these purple box like things hanging in trees. They are always purple, look like cardboard, 3 sided & about 18-24 inches long. I've noticed string hanging from them sometimes. The first time I saw one, I thought some kid lost their kite. But I keep seeing them in all different areas. My sis lives an hour away from me, out in the woods. Saw one on the way to her house a few weeks ago. DH & I went on a day trip & I saw one in a tree about 100 miles from home. Noticed some holes in the sides of that one. Don't know if the others have holes; I'm usually driving when I see them so of course don't get a good look.

Anyone know what these are? I'm starting to get a little paranoid about them. Are we being invaded? Little purple invaders? :scared1: :rotfl2:

LOL ! I saw one of these purple boxes this weekend and wondered too what they were too!

Do you live in a forested area? Around here those are insect traps, to be on the look-out for gypsy moths.

Any one have any fun plans for the weekend? We're going to our beach house. :beach:

Our cottage is terrific - right on a private beach on the sandy shores of Lake Ontario (about 60 miles from the Canadian border)

Hi Diznotyzed :wave2: Sounds nice! Is your beach house right on the ocean? I've heard it's really beautiful in Oregon.

We'll probably go to our camp, like we do most weekends.
Hi to everyone else!
:)

Hi everyone!
Back from the "Cottage" on lake Ontario- that's how us northerners refer to our beach houses :) Actually, it is my Mom's - I try to get there 2 or 3 times a summer, but it's a 5-1/2 drive for me. It's always tiring for me to come back and return right back to work :sad2:

My trip seemed neverending, too many stops. Moms of teenage sons will appreciate this ... mine's 18 ....

We stopped at a BK, eat there, got back on the road and after about 10 minutes, my son says, I think I threw out my retainer at BK!!! Yikes! So I get off Rt 81 - and doubleback - I made him go in, explain and ask for gloves so he can go thru the outside garbage bin. Luckily he found it right away. It's $400 to replace. I asked him why couldn't he put it in the container the orthdontist gave him?? I guess that would be too easy. I told him to make sure he disinfects it before he wears it again. Will he though??

Anyway, been busy since getting back and have been trying to post here all day. I only got thru 7 pages, so will have to get thru the rest - later everyone!!

Good afternoon....:)

I had to work this morning (I teach preschool during the school year, and we take turns working at the preschool summer program during the summer. Today was one of my days) from 7-12:15. It was the first time I left DS11 home for that long. I tried calling him when I left work to let him know I was on my way home...HE DIDN'T ANSWER THE PHONE!! I tried three times! I got the answering machine. I'm yelling "Hello??? Helloo???? PICK UP THE PHONE!"

Finally, on the fourth call, he picks up. "Sorry mom, the volume was down low on the answering machine." Um, did you consider maybe turning the volume up? Or maybe answering the phone after it rang three times in a freaking row?? It took me a few minutes to breath again!

He was OK...did everything on his list...good kid! I just worry too much!

Glad your son was okay, I’ve been there before with my son when he was younger and now with my daughter (she just turned 12). But now I call the cell phone, much easier since they always have it in their hands!!

TaylorsLoveDisney & Focusondisney: I went last Sept with my Sis and a friend for F&W- my first adults trip! It was so much fun. We went to the MNSSHP and had a blast! One of these days I will post a picture of the 3 of us. The popular rides still had lines though.

Ok, now I need to go back to my regular "job" Type later!

Hello all! I can't even begin to get caught up with everyone here. This thread sure keeps moving along! It sounds like everyone had nice weekends and came home with their pants. :rotfl: We didn't do too much other than hang out by the pool. It sounds like it is hot everywhere, not just here. Have a great evening everyone!

Okay, since I’ve skimmed some more, just had to add …

Dax: sorry about your migraine, I too take Execedrin Migraine, but I get them less frequently since my “friend” been missing for 9 months … In fact I had one a week ago, and was so ill.

Pakey: so sorry to hear about your surgery, I wish you a speedy recovery. My mom was diagnosed with BC in April 2009, so just passed her one year mark and thank God, everything seems fine. I agree with you, life is too short, enjoy all the big and little joys.
P.S. I love the Twilight books too

Jane: Congrats on beating BC. Oh ... and my mom has weird dreams too .. and I love to hear about them!

Momof2 – love the “butt crack of dawn” remark! That was us last time we flew, had a 8 AM flight, Magical express had to pick us up at 4:50 AM !!

Kymmyk13: So Scary for your sister – hope the doctors can save her foot

I know I missed a lot, but I’m wiped. Need to really go back to work

Oh and I have a 30% off at Kohls so must get thru by tomorrow!

Hello Nothings!

Home from work:goodvibes and BOY it is hot out. Yikes, I don't even feel like taking the dog for her walk.

Cold Stone Creamery just came to Canada and we got a bunch of buy one get one free and $2 off coupons in the mail, so I am very tempted to go down and get ice cream for dinner. Anyone have any favourite combos or creations? I'm pretty new to it!

autumnpalm- Mmm...Coldstone! I usually get the Sinless Sweet Cream instead of the regular icecream. I either get a mix-in or sub it in Peanut Buttercup Perfection.
Janet and Dax- I, too, sometimes get migraines. Luckily, it is only a few times a year, but when I do, I am done for. I usually end up vomitting and then curled up in a bawl until morning. :(

Dh is on the phone with Direct TV. Our cable, phone, and internet are almost $170 a month, so we are looking into other options. We don't need the phone, but the cable company said it is part of the package. We don't even watch that much tv, so we might just got with the internet. The dcs would be in for a shock, though.:rotfl2:

Afternoon, Sweets!

Been shopping with DD all day AND we went to see Eclipse- finally. There were only a couple of teenage girls in there besides mine so the squealing over T.Lautner was kept to a minimum, thank goodness.

:goodvibes

Butt crack off dawn-- I'm using it.:rotfl2:

ooooh- so if anyone is interested-- Old Navy is an extra 50% off of clearance--- I got jeans for my youngest for $2.50. !!!!! I'd say that's everything, not nothing!:goodvibes I spent a total of $25 and got three pair of jeans, a pair of shorts, two pair of capris, and a top-- all for her.

Also American Eagle is having a great extra 50% off of clearance.

Autumn--- anything with reese's cups mixed in from Coldstone is a winner in my book!:thumbsup2 What a great deal on their Ice cream!

Kimmy--- Hope they are able to save your sis's foot.:guilty: Poor lady. Your mission trip sounds like it was such a blessing to someone's life......:cloud9:

Janet B--- when My DH was a teenager- he did the same thing- threw out his retainer in the trash at the local chicken place. By the time he realized what he'd done- he was already back home. So my FIL drove all the way back to the restaurant, only to find that they were getting ready to close and had taken the trash to the dumpster. So two hours and lots of dumpster diving later, up they come with the retainer and filth all over them. They go home and FIL tells my DH he isn't using it until it's properly sanitized and proceeds to BOIL it.........
And then the plastic melts and all that's left are wires in the bottom of the pot.
Hope your son properly sanitizes his............

:rolleyes1

LaLa--- your DD sounds like she is special to be doing what she's doing------:goodvibes:goodvibes

Dax--- we love Gators...........:rolleyes1
;)

Pakey---- You know that Beyonce song??/ "Lemme lemme lemme upgrade ya....":thumbsup2

Okay Carrie Underwood------ my DH works with a guy who dated her in HS. He actually called her right before she went on stage on American Idol the night she won- to wish her good luck.
I just got an invitation in the mail to his upcoming marriage to someone else- a dentist. How do you compete with THAT memory????? So glad my DH didn't date anyone that gorgeous before me.

So tomorrow---------- we'll be at hump day, Nothings!:woohoo:
Everybody hang in there...........

Have a good night guys!

Mmmm peanut butter cups sound perfect.

Jobird, how did you like Eclipse? It was my favourite of the Twilight movies so far. I went to a late show and thankfully the screaming was kept to a minimum there too. Oh, and your sons retainer story had me laughing!!!:rotfl:

Oh and kymmyk, keep us updated on your sister's foot. I hope she is okay!

Autumn- well my DD said it was her fave so far as well. I think I liked it the best too- I thought the new Victoria was really good. I can't wait for the next one. My DD is going again tomorrow with her BFF-- glad I'm not gonna be in that theater.:lmao:
My Retainer story was about my Dh and his dad-------- what makes it funny to me is knowing my FIL--- he was the Vice Wing Commander for one of the Air Force Bases and he was dumpster diving. Too funny.

Oh yeah and Coldstone-- if you like Peanut Butter- their cake Peanut Butter Playground is probably the best thing I've ever eaten. Pretty ridiculously high though-

http://www.coldstonecreamery.com/cakes/signature_cakes.html

KimmyK, I hope your sister will be okay.

JoBird, I'm thinking Coldstone will be on a day soon. I have Graeter's shipped to me here in California from Ohio and my favorite flavor is Buckeye Blast which has huge chunks of peanut butter in it. Now I'll have to drive across town to Coldstone and compare the two.

paintnolish, I hate those bills. We have both Comcast and Direct TV. I'm thinking about dropping my internet through Comcast since I hardly ever use it. I can't give up the TV though, especially with Mad Men, Weeds and Sons of Anarchy starting in a few weeks.

OK, so I booked my flights to Egypt and decided to upgrade. It's almost 20 hours of flight time with the 3 flights and I decided I need a little more room. My husband said he didn't care so I told him I'd book him into coach. I really didn't but I think I'll let him think that for a few hours.

Jo- My birthday is coming up soon and I am TOTALLY getting that cake. I have a coupon for $5 off cakes that expires two days before my birthday so hopefully it will keep in the freezer!

Pakey- Whoohoo for the upgrade!:cool1: You deserve it and it sounds totally worth it for the amount of time you'll be flying!

Boy, alot went on here today! Most of you are probably already asleep, and I'm just now catching up. :guilty: I spent practically all day cleaning my FIL's house. I just got back home a little after 10. We're having a big family gathering this weekend at his house, so it was a necessary job!

Jo - Wow, what a sale you hit! You can hardly get that much for $25 at a garage sale! And that retainer story is the funniest one I've ever heard. I've heard of some being left in restaurants and thrown away, but your DH's takes the cake!

Lala - Those are great experiences that both your daughters are going to have! I know how proud and happy you must be for them. :goodvibes

kymmyk - I hope your sister gets better soon and I pray that the doctors can save her foot! Kudos to your group for the mission work and helping the elderly!

Dizno - I've never seen Mad Men. When does it come on and what in general is it about? I saw a guy on Regis & Kelly this morning that is on the show. I was listening because he is from New Orleans and just wrote a book. You're so right about writing down funny and memorable things your kids say. I wish I had done that with mine!

Janet - So now we have cottage to add to our vacation home names! I really like the sound of "cottage" Much better than "camp". I'm glad your son was able to find his retainer. Let's just hope he doesn't boil it like Jo's FIL! Honestly, I can see myself doing something like that, especially if it was in the dumpster.

I hope everyone else had a nice day!

*Yawn*

Am I first? :cool1: I can't believe I'm first today!

Didn't sleep last night too much.

One of THOSE nights.:confused3

Happy Wednesday Nothings!!

Pakey- what that heck is a Graetners--?? I must say that anything that has the word "Buckeye" in it and is from Ohio I may have an issue with.:rolleyes1 hahahahahaha!!!! Glad you upgraded your flight-- you will be thanking yourself ten hours into the flight. wow- that is one long BEHIND flight!

Jane-- a party? This Weekend???? With Family??? Sounds like a grand time!:goodvibes Hope it all goes well in the newly cleaned house.
The retainer story---::yes:: it makes me laugh too. And that sale? I may need to go back!:rotfl2: Or, um, maybe I need to stay home.:upsidedow

Autumn-- get that cake!!!!! You will be happy with it-- I let it sit our for a bit before I eat it and it gets all melty and squishy. It is so good-- but I'm the girl that melts her ice cream in the microwave before eating it- you may like it frozen.

So what's on tap today Nothings?

I may have to go shopping again.........

:cheer2:

Have a great day girls!

Good morning. I can't believe that a left coaster was the second to post this morning!!!

JoBird, Graeters is a very good ice cream that's made in Ohio. I had it in Cincinnatti; not sure if it's in other places in the state. Oprah had it as one of her "favorites" on her show a few years back. It's the best ice cream I've ever had.

I have nothing going on today except work. :headache:
