The Epic 16 day Feast...Oh, and we got married too! Update 11/17 Jiko

Thanks for another wonderful update, LOVE The pictures. I love onion soup and Escargot...yummy.popcorn::popcorn::

Thanks for sticking with me!

Well, I know how I'm gonna convince my husband to go on a cruise with me... show him that slab of meat and he will be like putty in my hand!! :rotfl:

Agreed - that would sell anyone on a cruise!

GREAT reviews! I can't wait to hear about your DxDP meals!

Oh they were worth the wait, believe you me!

yum! too bad about the lobster tho, adrian's steak looks super delicious :hyper: i too am a carnivore and love it more on the rare side :rotfl:

MMMMMMMMm - bloody steak! It's funny, when I met him he liked everything well done, now he's a med to med-rare guy all the way!

I'm only on page one but after seeing pics of your first dinner I was hooked!! I'm subbing fo shizzle!! You seem like a total foodie like myself.

I am in fact a total foodie. Still carrying the 9 lbs extra vacation weight to prove it...I can't seem to get back on track, no matter how hard I try!

So we got off the cruise and as I explained previously, upon checking into AKV, we realized that they had given us 5 days of Deluxe Dining for our 3 night stay. Just to break down what this did to our trip, I’m going to post a comparison of what we originally planned and how that changed with this magical pixie dust situation…

Original Plan with 18 TS credits
Sept 30: Lunch OOP and Dinner at Artist Point (4 TS)
Oct 1: Breakfast at CRT and Dinner at Narcoosees (8 TS)
Oct 2: Breakfast at Boma and Dinner at Cali Grill (6 TS)
Oct 3: OOP Wanamari Safari w/family style dinner at Jiko ($300)
Oct 4: OOP The Wave

New Plan with 30 TS credits
Sept 30: Lunch Sanaa and Dinner at Artist Point (6 TS)
Oct 1: Breakfast at CRT and Dinner at Narcoosees (8 TS)
Oct 2: Breakfast at Boma and Dinner at Cali Grill (6 TS)
Oct 3: Lunch at San Angel Inn, Dinner at Jiko, and ordered Pizza to eat cold the next day! (10 TS)
Oct 4: Cold Pizza, and OOP dinner at EoS

So yes, we did manage to use all of our 30 credits legitimately within the appointed time frames…we ordered the pizza at 10 PM so we’d be sure to get it prior to the midnight cut-off of the credits! It was a brilliant strategy, and frankly Disney got my $300 that I was going to spend on the Safari anyways, so they certainly didn’t lose out!!

So now onto Day 13…starting with lunch…

As soon as we discovered our good fortune we decided instead of going to the parks we’d eat lunch at Sanaa – right downstairs! We started out with our first (of many) glasses of complimentary champagne (we don’t drink so it was always kind of funny)…

We decided to get the appetizer sampler for 2 to share. It comes with Lamb Kefta, which are essentially spiced lamb meatballs, awesome texture and good kick…with a papaya glaze…YUM! Also on the platter were Samosas with mango chutney…these were pretty good but I was pretty in love with the Lamb at this point, so trying to eat all of it before Adrian could get to it (I’m not someone you necessarily want to “share” an appetizer with). The third item on the platter was Roasted Cauliflower with tomato chutney….It was also super awesome. Slightly crispy and golden, and the tomato sauce was a great compliment!

Adrian had the Red Chicken Curry and Beef Short Ribs with Jasmine rise, he said it was absolutely amazing. I think it had some kick to it because he was a bit flushed by the end of dinner…the short ribs were fall off the bone tender – although there were almost no bones…it was basically a bowl of meat and sauce…a successful dish all in all.
DSC031531.JPG

I had the Tandoori Chicken – I’ve had this before and it was outstanding both times. The chicken is boneless thigh meat, so it’s tender and juicy, the spice is perfect and the yogurt sauce is amazing. I’m not big on salad, I’ve said it before and I’ll likely say it again, but the greens on the Naan bread really suit this dish well…it’s a fantastic combo!
DSC031541.JPG

For dessert, Adrian got what the waiter described as “like Christmas in a cup” – the Chai Cream…it really WAS like Christmas in a cup!! It is delicious, kind of like a think custard like pudding only made with Chai Latte! Yum…
DSC031581.JPG

I got the Sesame Orange Cake – it was shockingly great…the cake had a really spongy texture and the added crunch of the sesame seeds was a great surprise…I loved the combination of flavors that were on my plate!
DSC031591.JPG

The entire meal was a great success…..then we had to make room for Dinner at Artist Point! We went swimming and played some tennis to work off lunch and get geared up for more food…

Up next, Artist Point!

Love, Love, Love your updates :cool1:

Your lunch at Sanaa looked soooooo delicious :cloud9:

I would never have thought of Sanaa as a possible dining choice, but your pictures and review are making me reconsider. It looks awesome!

Subscribing. Don't want to lose this thread and have to try to re-find it.

Don't mind me, just lurking and taking notes!:goodvibes

I forgot to add, congratulations on your marriage. A VERY good start. I must make my excuse due to the fact that I was overwhelmed by the presentation of the report and the pictures of the food.

I just looked it over again, and every time I do, I get hungry!!

It really was - I love the place so much, and even when paying OOP it's great value!

I would never have thought of Sanaa as a possible dining choice, but your pictures and review are making me reconsider. It looks awesome!

Try it out - it's one of my favorites now!

HAHA - thanks...I too, often get very distracted by all the food!!

The view from almost everywhere in Sanaa is amazing. Every time I've been (I think this was my 4th time now) I have been able to see Giraffes right out the windows, and I have never had a window seat!!

Yummers--that cake looked GOOD!

mmmmmmmmmmmmm - it really was!

Yummy!!! There needs to be a drooling smiling we can use here on the Review board! :lmao:

I was thinking or trying to recreate this recipe...but I'm scared of the implications if I figure it out...LOL

And I agree with the drooling smile idea!!

Artist Point was the biggest surprise for me…the atmosphere is truly lovely, the high ceilings are great and the artwork is fantastic…and the entree was the best I ate on the entire trip.

Let’s start with the free champagne (which again, we didn’t drink). How beautiful it looked though – they floated a raspberry in each glass – it was stunning! Then soon after they brought out the bread, which was amazing, and served with butter with black sea salt on top…very pretty…
DSC031681.JPG

For appetizers I had the heirloom tomato salad with buffalo mozzarella – which was absolutely stunning to look at and delicious to eat. The tomatoes were so fresh, it honestly reminded me of picking them, perfectly ripe, out of my grandmother’s garden…
DSC031721.JPG

Adrian had the Dungeness Crab Cake - with Mache Lettuce and Bell Pepper Coulis. This was also delicious, the flavors blended perfectly and there was lots of crab in the crab cakes – I know that seems crazy to say but often they are mostly filler and very little crab…not these puppies!
DSC031731.JPG

For his entrée Adrian was brave and tried the Buffalo Strip Loin steak (his first time trying Buffalo), cooked Med-Rare…WOW it was an amazingly flavorful steak, not gamey at all, and was beautifully tender. I have cooked Buffalo waaaay back in my early 20s, and it turned out like shoe leather…this was wonderful!
DSC031741.JPG

My entrée was hands down the best meal I have ever eaten. It was so freaking good it wasn’t even funny. I had fresh (never frozen and just caught) Halibut, pan seared on crab risotto with a blood orange sauce. Without the sauce it would have still been a stellar meal – with the sauce it was abso-freaking-lutely amazing, I tell you. The fish was so tender and juicy, the risotto was cooked to Chef Ramsey’s standards, and perfectly seasoned…the whole thing was stellar. It was one of those meals where I kept taking a bite, and sitting there with my eyes closed just savoring the flavors...
DSC031771.JPG

Strangely enough, at Artist Point when you are on the DxDP they also give you your choice of 2 additional sides…we didn’t need them, but wanted to try them…Adrian chose Artisinal Mac and Cheese with a basil crust…it was great, but there was too much totally stellar food in the table, so it kind of got ignored.
DSC031761.JPG

My side choice was hazelnut Sweet Potato Gratin….Holy S*#$ (sorry this deserved a fake curse word)…it was by far the best tasting side dish I have ever tasted. I was sad that it came with such a great entrée, because I could only eat about ¼ of it – but MAN oh man it was great! It was baked in a creamy, hazelnutty sauce with just a touch of cheese on top, and crispy cracker crumbs – jeez…perfect, not joking…
DSC03175.JPG

Now that I am drooling all over my keyboard, and trying frantically to wish myself back to that moment…onto dessert. We both chose their signature dessert, which was Berry Cobbler with a house made brown sugar ice cream…this was a stellar combination, but not the best dessert of the next few days….we had lots to choose from! The cobbler is very sweet, more like a brown sugar cake, and the berries were fresh tasting and delicious - the thing that made this cobbler different is that the fruit isn't cooked - it is fresh. Good combo all around!

Ugh – this was a hard one to write, because I SO want to be at Artist Point right now!!

Up next – breakfast with the princesses!!!!

Just to clarify, did your server mention that you get an additional side with your entree or did you know about this in advance and inform them? I don't think a lot of people are aware of this little bonus on the DxDP, and depending on the server you get, you may not be able to get a side at all.

wow looks fantastic!!! we've never considered artist point but now i think we will have to! :thumbsup2

awesome update and I'm really hungry after reading and looking at the pictures.

Me too - happens every time I login to post!!

Yay!!!!!:yay::yay:

I debated on that - but I'm not a huge fan of things that taste "smoky" so i chickened out...next time I'm going to try it though!

Thanks - we also loved Cali Grill...but it didn't beat this entree, I tell you that much!

She definitely mentioned it - she pretty much said "order it even if you think you won't finish it, it's worth it!" And she was correct!

wow looks fantastic!!! we've never considered artist point but now i think we will have to! :thumbsup2

Try it - I had never considered it before either...now I consider going to Disney just for a weekend just so I can go back!

OMG... all of that looks so good! I had to do a little google search after seeing that sweet potato dish... oh yeah, I think we'll be trying that for Thanksgiving this year!

Lets see if it will let me post this... if not, google search "Sweet Potato Gratin, served at artist point". Tell me if you think this sounds right...

http://www.talkdisney.com/forums/di...nt-wilderness-lodge-recipe.html#axzz13xlDMJzx

That definitely sounds right...I was trying to convince myself that since it was sweet potatoes it was relatively healthy...now that I've read the other ingredients in printed form I'm not so sure I can keep deluding myself!
