You know I said it a few pages back please explain WHY people continue to use the term "breeders" or "breeding" it disgusting when speaking of human beings
these people are not having children, they are breeding an army. There is a distinct difference. They are not individual children loved for who thay are, but an army designed to fight God's war at armegeedon so yes breeder does apply.

Okay...serious question here for those of you who are more familiar with this quiverfull concept. Are there any exceptions to the ban on birth control? Like in the case that a pregnancy could threaten the life of the mother, or if the resulting children wouldn't survive? For instance there are exceptions to the fast during Ramadan. Children under 12, the elderly, the sick, and pregnant or nursing mothers are not expected to fast because of the possible health risks. Is the use of birth control ever acceptable?
No, they believe God will handle it, and if he wants you to die in childbirth so be it.
I've been watching the Duggars ever since their first show and I remember clearly about the older sibling assignments and the blanket training too. I pretty much despised them at that point but have continued to watch them some over the years and either they have become more media savvy or they have changed their ways. They are definitely more "liberal" in their views and what they show on TV than they were many years ago.

Yes, the interview quoted here by another poster was much later after they had figured out that they needed to temper what they said to make it more mainstream acceptable.

Hmmmmmmmmmm I wonder if I could get a show I rescued 8 dogs a cat and a horse my house needs repairs and we live paycheck to paycheck..DH has a job (thank God) but is gone driving a truck all the time......nah...who would be interested in this :lmao:

Throw a bunch of junk around, don't clean for 6 months and then have a friend or family member complain about your "hoarding tendencies". That should at least land you on one show on Animal Planet which should make you enough money for a Disney trip. It would be even better if the horse sometimes comes in the house. :rotfl:

you do love that breeding/breeder term Princessmom...that's where anything you say loses compassion for your experience from me

these people are NOT animals and they DON'T breed one more time animals breed

The ONLY time I have ever heard about breeding prior to the Dis boards in terms of humans was in history when dictators wanted to cleanse whole groups in society and breed a superior race...perhaps this is why I find it so offensive and truly wish the term would be dropped

So now YOU are going to tell people how many children they can have? So who says how many is too many? You want the government saying we can only have 1 child like is done in many other countries? Why is the number of children that YOU have the right amount? This thread needs to be deteted - it this isn't politcal, I don't know what is!

Think you mis-interpreted that. She said her sons, not boys as in boys the girls may be trying to please.

I guess I didn't make myself very clear. It was late...sorry. It seemed to me that the parents were saying "some of our daughters might get nursing degrees" like that was an acceptable choice for them. ...but then said what their sons decided to do was up to their interests. It seemed that the daughters interests were irrelevant.

I actually thought it was a nice interview and there is some truth in what she says. A little modesty would go a long way for girls/women instead of the oversexed way in which most choose to show themselves.

Still think they are a mess tho...and we have 5 kids. :rolleyes1

I have 4. No one in this house presents themselves in an "oversexed" way. Unfortunately, fashion (and I use that term loosely) is subjective. I like a nice dress or skirt, an so do my girls, but I don't want to be told what to wear.

:thumbsup2

pointers doxies redbone coonhound and one we have no idea..used to be in rescue .nah nothing interesting I say to them..well when they're digging its not a pretty conversation :rotfl:

I have a blind dog. When we moved furniture to paint he barked at a chair for 15 minutes straight. I'm calling the networks!

Well, I admire how classy the Duggars are regarding their beliefs. They never say a harsh or hateful word about others of different faiths which is more than I can see about a lot of folks on this thread.

Yes, because that would be financial suicide. They need to be marketable. If they said what they really think, they would find themselves unemployed.
...think about Mel Gibson...........

I agree. It has negative connotations for the reason you listed here, and I'm suprised also to see people using that term (for ANY family, Duggar or not).

As I've said before, what I don't understand is why this nice, Christian family put their kids out there for our entertainment :confused3. Surely there is a lot they can do for this world to make it a better place, other than be our entertainment. A lot of ways they can share the Word, than having their children on TV. It would only take a minute for them to google themselves to see that there are a lot of people that wonder why the heck they are doing this (yes, and a lot who love the show, but the bottom line is, their kids are up there for people's entertainment).

Because they are proselytizing. (And no, that isn't a perjorative term, it just is what it is: spreading the word about their belief system in the hope of converting others to it.) You cannot get any more effective way to spread the word than national television. They view it as a Mission for the Quiverfull Movement.

:confused3 I think you are quoting the wrong person in your post, I posted about the term which has nothing to do with your post

All I know is that if our school system had someone expressing such prejudicial views they would be hauled off for tolerance training. Such vile disrespect for the life choices of others is sickening, imo.:sad2:

Like i said i really dont watch all the espisodes but in the earlier shows i remember they were more simple and I was surprised they allowed the cousin to hangout with the kids. was her name Amy??? She was a teen. On the newer shows i've seen during the marathon i didnt see the cousin on.

I wonder wht the DIL think and if they will live the same lifestyle.

I know 1-2 daughters i've wondered what they really think must be Jinger since she's been mentioned and i do remeber the eyerolling-lol! I think it would be interesting to see how Jinger and a few of the older girls decide what road to take in life. I hope each child is getting some money put aside in a trust fund fot their future.

I really wish the kids could say how they really feel about everything. I also noticed when Michelle annouced being pregant again the look on some of the faces.

but theres just something about Jim Bob that just makes me wonder:confused3

I really hope the kids will get some $$ for the future

Actually people ARE animals. We are classified as members of the animal kingdom and as such if we are interesed in using completely correct termonology we DO breed. When is it used as a clensing the term is selsective breeding. It is a correct scientific term to use for any animal producing offspring. My argument is that all those who subscribe to quiverfull are doing. Porducing as many offspring as possible as quickly as possible to produce a large "army" for the coming fight. That is what thier literature suggests, I didn't make it up. Check out thier website. That is breeding, just the same as developing a breeding stock of cattle. The purpose is not to produce individual offspring to be loved and cherished, but to geenrate as many generaic "soldiers" as possible, just as the purpose of cattle breeding is to porduce as many food animals as possible.

Princessmom I give up...choose whatever term you like and I will pray that you learn compassion...you can't stop me from doing that :)

I don't know how anyone can type stuff like that and accuse others of being judgmental. Vile.

As others have expressed, I am sorry you were affected by your past experiences, but you are crossing line of having an opionion and being down right insulting.

I too will pray for your compassion as you are in great need of it.

I agree with you 100%. Guess some people don't realize the truth hurts!!!

Lol, well, when you are old enough to not post your grades, your opinion on child bearing, parenting and life styles might mean a bit more. Hopefully university will help you understand and appreciate diversity.:)

as the bumper sticker says, "a mind is like a prachute...it is only good when it is open."

I've thought the same thing, all the disposable stuff they use horrifies me- between the diapers, plates, cups, etc.... they have the laundry facilities and dishwashing facilities to deal with reusables. How hard is it really to have a few sets of cups and label them for reuse? Use the same cup for water all day and put in the dishwasher at night so that only one per person gets used instead of who knows how many disposables. Not to mention, looking at it from a religious POV, shouldn't they be good stewards of the Earth God has provided by taking good care of it?

That's one of the reasons they rub me the wrong way. I don't believe people should have more kids than they're willing to responsibly care for, and to me needing to use disposable everything just to keep the household running is a clear sign that they're past that threshold.

Jim Bob Duggar: As far as my children, my goal, especially for my sons is to be able to develop skills so they can hopefully provide for their families in the future. I also want my daughters to develop skills so they can provide if they had to. Some of my daughters may get nursing degrees. My sons, it really depends on their interests.

That, to me, is so telling. It doesn't depend on the girls' interests. They "might" go into a traditionally female profession. Only the boys get the freedom to choose their own path. :sad2:
