The Duggar Family is pregnant AGAIN!

Children should not be raising children. If a parent wants to have multitudes of children, then they need to be prepared to raise them. Do not pass that off on your other children. They did not choose this life.

Amen. This is exactly why I am sickened by the Duggars.

how many babies can a human possibly have?!

seriously - is michelle trying to break the record?

Were the girls wearing dresses while they worked with power tools, welded, and poured concrete?

Yes. I know farmgirls that wear dresses all of the time. So did my grandma.

Per the little boy in the ditch...well, my kids have helped with building, digging, tearing down, painting, etc., since they could walk. Must be in the blood, my grandma told the tale of my mom being 3, and her daddy taught her to nail. When grandma came in from the barn, my mom had hammered a row of nails neat as can be into the door frame.:rotfl:

I heard, too, that they had to change docs due to the concerns her last ob/gyn had expressed. I think she had refused to deliver the last baby.

This is the 21st century. Wearing dresses (or any other loose-fitting clothing) while working with power tools is dangerous and irresponsible. I sent an undergraduate home for wearing cowboy boots in the shop because the heels could have thrown her off balance. I seriously doubt the girls are being encouraged to pursue careers in "the trades".

If you look at the kids' profiles on the Discovery Health website, you'll see all their career goals. And you will see they are clearly divided along gender lines (with the exception of missionary. Apparently, that knows no gender).

Now that Michelle is 41 years old I'm curious to see how many more kids she will push out. I'd wager she'll get to 22 kids before its all over.

I try to wish her the best, I really do. But, between using all the children as Jr. Nannies in training, and comfortably risking her own health with continued pregnancies I don't understand her decision making process.

What some would call "personal choice", I tend to see as plain selfish. :sad2:

Well the cynical part of me says that it is personal choice to keep themselves in the news. Jon and Kate plus 8 was stealing their thunder.

I don't think I indicated any differently. Just answering a question. And I don't think anyone has ever been killed by operating a drill in a dress...:rotfl:

Not picking on you, but you did suggest that the kids' jobs are not divided by gender. If a girl is really learning construction while she is wearing a dress her safety isn't being taken seriously. I suspect their participation was just for the purpose of the television show. And while I don't personally know of a soul who has been killed operating a drill (or any other power tool) I have seen my share of ugly injuries, including a mini-scalping because someone failed to pull his hair back. There is a certain morbid humor (the shop teacher who is missing a couple of fingers ;) ) that doesn't apply to kids.

While some of the children have been shown working on the house, as far as I can tell jobs are pretty rigidly assigned based on gender. One girl is assigned to do the laundry, one girl is assigned to cook lunch, another dinner. My kids read about up the upcoming series of shows, and in one show, the kids switch roles for the day - the boys cook and clean and the girls fix the cars and do outside work. If they all shared the work on a regular basis, then there would be no need for that particular episode.

How much you wanna bet they'll be operating power tools with long hair as well? Nobody ever accused the Duggar's of being smart.

That happened to a classmate in 6th grade. She was helping her grandparents (who were raising her) around the house. Her hair got caught in the drill bit. If I remember correctly, she spent a few days in the hospital and had numerous stitches. 1/2 her head was bandaged for a couple of months

Excerpt from the AP article:

Jim Bob Duggar, a former member of the Arkansas Legislature and an unsuccessful U.S. Senate candidate, has not been specific when asked how he supports such a big family. But he said he was guided by a seminar about 20 years ago — a system he still advocates — that blends finance and religion.

The family has become well-known through news coverage of new births and with programs about them on Discovery Health, which is filming the family again.

The new show looks at life inside the Duggar home, where chores — or "jurisdictions" — are assigned to each child. One episode of the new show involves a "jurisdiction swap," where the boys do chores traditionally assigned to the girls, and vice versa, Duggar said.

"The girls swapped jurisdictions, changing tires, working in the garages, mowing the grass," she said. "The boys got to cook supper from start to finish, clean the bathrooms," among other chores.

I would say that it is possible to learn to do a job without following all of the safety rules. Happens all of the time. My boys 8, 11, and 14) were learning to weld this weekend, and there were many (safety) areas that could have been cut. That doesn't mean they wouldn't have actually done the work.

My kids do learn the safety rules, due to OCD dad. For the record!

I don't for the life of me believe any of those girls will want to build houses when they grow up, partially due to the gender roles being reinforced day and night. I do believe that they were involved in their housebuilding, though. It seems to me that it was what ALL of them were doing in their "free" time for years.

We spent 5 years like this, renovating an 1868 log cabin/farmhouse. And at 5, my son could tell my husband if something was square and plum. And could work the electric screwdriver to help with the outlet boxes. But not in a dress...;)

eta: This isn't an endorsement of this family. I think that they are different, but I don't necessarily believe that different is bad. I would never choose to put my family under the microscope like they do, and I'm sure people would find plenty to fuss about if I did.

Why does that matter? Are they less able to do the job if they're dressed as a woman? I guess in your world, no female CEO should wear a skirt or a dress because that makes them less able to do the job.

Long hair, skirts, loose fitting long sleeves etc are all potential hazards when dealing with manual labor, power tools and many forms of machinery/equipment. If a CEO's job entailed any of the above, then yes a skirt or a dress would make them less able to do their job.

ETA: The quoted post is also another perfect example of stereo-typing. Women must be wearing a skirt or dress to be "dressed as a woman".

Exactly! I wouldn't want anyone taking that close of a look at my family life either! :scared:

I don't get WHY it's such a big deal if the girls all want to be wives and mothers and the boys all want to go into real estate like dad. It's no different than a child being "expected" to be a doctor because there are four generations of them in the family, or a child "expected" to take on the family business. Theoretically, the doctor's kid or the family business kid have infinite choices, but they willingly follow the family line because it's how they've been brought up. This isn't any different.

Just because someone subscribes to a different lifestyle than all of us doesn't mean our way is better. It's just different. I'd sure as heck rather have the Duggars for my neighbors than the "Real Housewives of NYC."

Because common sense dictates that you do not wear loose, flowing clothing while operating power tools. It has nothing to do with traditional roles and everything to do with safey.
