The Duggar Family is pregnant AGAIN!

There is just something inherently wrong with living your life assuming your children are going to do something wrong-thus no private time. How about spending time looking at the good things the kids do?

It's a big deal because the children are being raised to conform to certain gender specific roles. They are not being given the chance to choose their own paths, find their own interests. If the kids come to those roles on their own, that's one thing. But it's been dictated for them.

And again, I ask ... why is that bad? Why is it such a terrible horrible thing to be raised to conform to gender-specific roles? The only reason you see it as wrong is because it's not what you would choose. And honestly? You, personally, do not KNOW if they "are not being given the chance to choose their own paths, find their own interests." Because all you or I or any of us here know about the Duggars is what we see on TV. It's certainly not the total picture. You can ASSUME that they follow, to the letter, every single edict of whatever religion or social system they choose, but you have no way of knowing.

:earsboy:

this is what I was thinking.. she has been pregnant for a total of 10 years.. how dose she get to the dentist. In my state the dentist will not do xrays on your teeth while pregnant.. also it could be just me.. when ever I am pregnant I get major cavitys... :headache:

Could you imagine what would happen if Jim Bob decided to leave Michelle for another woman or abandon his family? The eldest boys would have to support the family. Its scary to put that much trust in one human being.

She'd get half of the property, etc. As well as child support and the tv stuff. She could get by.

Per Michelle's calm, pleasant attitude, well, my sister and a girlfriend are just like that. Nothing fazes them. Some people are just like that. Wish I was more so.

Maybe she is brainwashed, and the place is screwed up. I don't know. I just know that some of the stuff people ragg about is perfectly explainable.

:rotfl: eta: You know, it really isn't fair that dear little sis inherited all of the sweetness in our family...I always describe her as being just like me, except nice...

She'd have to pay taxes on 10 acres (1/2 of the estate) and just because you are entitled to child support doesn't mean that someone actually gets it. Especially of Jim Bob starts a new family with new kids. He's a seed-spreader!

It really looks like Michelle has a mental illness, an obsessive compulsion to keep having children.

Here are the facts: they say they don't believe in birth control because of the Psalm in the Bible that says parents should have a "quiverfull" of children, in Michelle's own words "accepting" as many children as the Lord will give them. They don't even believe in natutal family planning.

Then after each birth, when asked if they'll have more, Jim Bob says "it's up to Michelle". Even the oldest son when asked that question said it'll be up to his wife how many children they have.

So how does that fit in with the religious conviction of just letting nature'God take it's course? According to Jim Bob, if Michelle feels they've had enough children, they'll stop. But how will they stop? They would have to use birth control, whether natural or not, or they'd stop having sex. But to stop having sex in order to control the number of kids you have IS birth control.

She seems to get her life satisfaction from the NUMBER of children she has. She's obesessed with the sheer number, and not the nurturing. She's like a headmistress of a boarding school, she loves the kids, treats them well, but doesn'[t act like a "mother" the way i understand it. After an infant is weaned from the breast, she no longer wipes their noses, she no longer changes their diapers, she no longer dresses and overseas them. She doesn't cook for the family, or do the laundry,as those jobs are totally up to the older girls.

Michelles job seems to be as the school teacher and organizer. That's it. After her schedule, which is written down and posted on the wall, she leaves the kids to take care of each other at bed time, and she closes her bedroom door alone with her husband.

She seems like a very sweet woman, but mentally ill.

Any thoughts?

I know that they are made to poop alongside a pal.

That is all I need to know:crowded:

Isn't the family home considered a "church" and thus tax exempt?

Aisling - I agree - I think she is mentally ill for all of the reasons you have pointed out.

I am a SAHM. I chose that. I am not typing from work, I am typing from my dining room table. I just sent my kids (who are girls) off to school and I am taking a comforter to the laudromat in a few minutes because it doesn't fit in my washer. When I get back I am going to do the rest of the laundry. Then I am going to clean the kitchen. After that I have about forty other things to do. However, I also have an MFA, a freelance career, and I had my first child at 33. I KNOW what is outside my house waiting for me if I choose to go back to it. I can support my children if I have to. I am not "under the authority" of anyone but myself. I truly CHOSE this. It was not imposed on me.

Of course we have no way of knowing. Perhaps they are actually Wiccans. Maybe they are perpetrating a huge hoax on the world. Maybe when the cameras are turned off, the dresses come off and the kids start texting their friends. Perhaps Michelle has JimBob jumping throught flaming hoops in that bedroom of theirs. But the evidence shows otherwise.

That is HER version of motherhood. That is not your (or my) version of it. Her version of motherhood is not touchy-feely spending time and getting to know her kids. Her version of motherhood is teaching them about "God's vision" for the world. They are a God-centered , not human centered, household. God first, others second, yourself last. People who aren't in touch with their own humanity, their own mortality tend to be very robotic (Polygamists), they rather revel in the religious vision..not necessarily what is in front of them. This is a form of self-protection. (Hence the 20 acre Duggar compound). Shielding the "bad" human world out of their lives.

You may have a point there. At least she can sell out to tv if she needs to. I thought they had more acreage. 20 acres doesn't make a decent compound...

Around here we kid that families just take a pitching wedge and plant the kid's homes where the ball lands...:rotfl: But these families have 100's of acres.

But my point is that what we are all seeing as "evidence" is such a tiny part of who these people are. There are folks on this board that I could call uninformed, prejudiced, ill-educated, or any number of things, based solely on their posts. Sure, it's "evidence" of who these people are, but certainly not even near the full picture. If someone consistently misspells words or writes incomplete sentences, I could easily claim that that "evidence" shows that they are ill-educated and probably have never been to college. When, in truth, they might have a PhD and just have typing issues. The Duggars chose to put themselves out there on TV and they likely know that people all over the country are now passing judgement. I'm just saying that what we see is such a small part of the whole picture ... I'd hate to be convicted on so little "evidence."

Although I do have to admit, the picture of the girls all slipping into shorts and texting their friends once the cameras are turned off kind of reminded me of "The Others" on LOST. Heh.

:earsboy:

If it works for them I say congrats! They could be doing much worse things, at least these kids are being raised to be respectful and have a good set of morals.

My grandmother was one of 20-some kids :scared1: Ok, the first few where from a different mother (step siblings) and my great-grandfather remarried when his first wife passed.

But they have given us a very good idea of the life. If you've seen all the specials, they've been very forthcoming about the way they run their family. If you've gone to their website, you'll find even more information. They are proud of their lifestyle and don't seem to be hiding anything from what I can see. If they are true followers of Bill Gothard, and since they use his home school curriculum then I assume they are, then the woman must be subservient and can only do the household chores. The women must wear concealing clothing that directs the eyes upward to the face. The females have a very limited role in this religion and no opportunity to explore other ways of living and that's the way they (followers of Gothard) want it.

I think that woman does a lot of work in that family. Perhaps not the right jobs...like caring for the little ones, but I am sure she is very overwhelmed with all that has to be done to care for a family that size.

Mental Illness of some sort, yes!

Wow, I finally made it through the thread! And you know the worst thing? I can't even watch their show here!
Anyway, we have in Flanders a family that has 15 or so kids. Once every blue moon (usually in the summer time, when they don't have royals or politicians to fill up the news) they come on television, but it is very sporadically (not a fixed show just about them).
They have so many kids, but they are "normal", i.e. wear normal clothes, go to normal schools, etc (and please, let's not start a debate about what "normal" means).
However, they also somewhat expect the older ones to care about the young ones. And yes, every time they get interviewed, the resentment shows from the older ones. They always mention they would like more time for hobbies, friends, etc, but they can't because they have to do laundry, cook, take care of the younger ones, ...
So, I can only imagine it's the same with the Duggar's. Unless of course they don't know what they are missing, they have no comparison material.

From reading about the Quiverfull (sp) idea that they follow, one of the child-raising ideas is not to let them sleep alone in order to resist the temptation of mas*****tion, which is considered a sin. Bathroom time is timed, and the only real chance for any of them to be "alone" is during private prayer time in the "prayer closet".

There are DISsers who admit having sex at WDW with their children in their room (sleeping in the other bed), so why wouldn't they be able to ********** when there are others in the room? Not everyone is a screamer  :rolleyes1

i can't believe the guiness world record is 69!!!!

I would die!

Are you sure you're still talking about the same topic??

As others have said, you're on the mark. Do Michelle and JimBob have a private bath in their suite? If they do, that would seal it for me. The royalty have privacy and privilege, the children are the unpaid help-no privacy, and no end to the child care responsibilities, and home chores.

Compared to what the kids are expected to do, Michelle's teacher job/listmaker is a cinch. The parents are very unethical in their use of children as unpaid 24 hour labor.
