rental car/tolls question

Every time I have brought my EZ Pass I have gotten hit with it not recording in some booths. The time I used Florida Visitors Pass - no issues. I am heading their soon and I will be using FVP again.
Did you mount your EZPASS on the windshield, as instructed?

If you have your own EZ Pass, when you pick up your rental, take the time to add the car description (make, model, color) and license plate to your account before leaving the garage. Just don't forget to take it off when you return the car.
Last year NYEzpass told you NOT to add rental cars.
This year it changed BUT they say it takes up to 48 hours for license plate info to populate through the system. Toll by plate might be billed through the rental agency system for the first day or two. Particularly on your drive from MCO.

MOUNT YOUR PASS ON THE WINDSHIELD.

I do. I also add my rental car to my EZ Pass account.

The passenger held it up like it was mounted. Since EZPass is with velcro I wasn't adding any to the windshield. I wish I could remember which toll plaza. It is only one but that one never would record. All others did.

Velcro is easy to remove from the windshield, fingernails.

Missing tolls seem to occur when the transponder isn't properly mounted

If someone who previously rented that car adds it to their EZPass account and forgets to remove it, you cannot add it to yours.
This has happened to me more than once. Surprising, because failing to remove the car could lead to mistaken added charges, but I guess some people don't check. OTOH, I still got charged for the tolls recorded on my transponder.
Bottom line you still need to make sure the transponder is in a position to be read by the readers.

I have failed to remove the car from my EZPass account and ended up for someone else's charges. Totally my fault.

As I understand it, when going through a toll booth, they'll check for the transponder. If that doesn't get a "hit", they'll look for license plate on an account. If that doesn't "hit", they'll send the bill to the car owner based on the license plate. That's where the rental car company would get involved, and hit you with extra fees.

I add the license plate to the account (even if rental) as a backup to the transponder. My transponder attaches to the windshield with suction cups.

And now that I look at it, I have an EPass, not an EZPass. :p
