The Dixie Chicks Denounce President Bush

I really don't give a hoot what Natalie Maines has to say, but when she says that she speaks for the majority of Americans - that's when I get upset. The last poll I saw this morning shows that 60% of Americans are in favor of war - so evidently Ms. Maines doesn't speak for the American majority. If she's going to lump all Americans into her vocal opinions, then she needs to get her percentages straight.

And trust me....my list of entertainers who I no longer will support financially has grown very long. They need to stick to entertaining and stay out of politics.

Sorry to rant, but I just don't feel that ANY of these people has more insight into this country, let alone the world than Mr. Bush, Mr. Rumsfeld and Mr. Powell.

I'm not trying to tick anybody off - honestly. I've just had my fill of these entertainers who have the money and the notoriety to be "heard" by the world. Trust me, if I went on the radio and voiced my opinions on war and President Bush, nobody would give two cents about what this little Indiana mother thinks. ;)

While I agree that they're entitled to their own opinions, if I paid $50 to see them in concert, I'd be pretty mad if they start bashing the President (I'm proud of him & the fact that he's from Texas), & feel like I'd been taken advantage of.

Uhhhhh. . I was under the impression she was speaking for herself and the other 2 "Chicks"??

Can you point out where she claimed to be speaking for the "majority of Amercians"?

Well, my opinion of them started to go downhill when they slaughtered Stevie Nick's "Landslide".....

I think the word "Many" was confused with "Majority" as seen in the article:

Maines also says, "I feel the President is ignoring the opinions of many in the U.S...."

Apparantly here in the U.S. the numbers are becoming more and more aliened with President Bush:

"A FOX News poll conducted this week finds 71 percent of Americans support using U.S. forces to disarm Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and 20 percent oppose."

FOX News Poll

BTW I thought their version of Lanslide was a pretty decent cover my self.

Here's a link to their fan club website and message boards. They have been absolutely SWAMPED and trust me, some of the language used isn't very nice.

If this represents the feelings on what should be a popular website for these girls, then their career is in MAJOR trouble. Click on the link and then on the left of the page you'll see MESSAGE BOARDS.

Looks like the "majority" of Americans are P.O.'d.

Dixe Chicks Website - Message Boards

I don't follow the Dixie Chicks but I'm curious, which one is Natalie?

Here's another interesting point...I just read a post on the Message Board of the Dixie Chick's fan club website. The post was made by a neighbor of Natalie's parents. She said that they are very nice people who live in an average neighborhood and this woman is now scared to death of retaliation on her parents for the "stupid" comment she made. This friend/neighbor of her parents even stated that she wishes Natalie had thought about her parents before she opened her mouth.

Interesting....

nah, i don't think their careers are in trouble.

remember the john lennon "jesus" scandal? people burned and boycotted then too...the beatles had several more years of hits and successes.

and anyone who retaliates on her parents are really just stupid (and scary!) natalie is a grown woman and her parents have NOTHING to do with this!

I think that comment and the Yoko years were John's downfall.

Thanks Patty, but since I don't know much about them I'm still not sure. Is she the real short one?

Yep, the little short one - usually in the middle.;)

Checking through some country music websites, many stations have already pulled them off the air! I support her right to oppose the war, and I support the 1st Amendment. But I also support my right to boycott the band because I disagree with Natalie. She can say what she wants, and the American people should respond how they feel is best. So far I think the Chicks have lost quite a few fans.

GO BUSH! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I think that comment and the Yoko years were John's downfall.

i'm confused as to what you mean about john's "downfall." john made the comment in 1966. seems to me he had hit records all the way up to his untimely death in 1980, and people still listen to his music even now.

Thanks Patty! And I especially appreciated your earlier comments on this thread.

Actually, Patty, I would much rather listen to your opinions and thoughts on the war than any celebrity any day.

The problem with Natalie Maines statement was that she came off sounding so disrespectful. Although she has a right to dislike Bush and oppose the war, her comment to a foreign audience was disloyal. There are many ways to express your views and opinions without seeming contemptuous. She just needs to grow up a little, and I'm sure this 'incident' will help her to do just that.

As for my comment in regards to John Lennon, I really don't know for sure what year he made the statement about Jesus. I do know that once Yoko entered his life, it was the end of the Beatles and the beginning of his solo career.

Don't really know how we got from the Dixie Chicks to John Lennon, but the statement did hurt his career and this statement will hurt the Chick's career.

I feel it was very cowardly for her to make that statement overseas. Let's just see what kind of a "welcome" they get in a few weeks when they play in Kansas City and let's see if she has the nerve to repeat the statement in front of an audience of Americans.
