The Disney Confessional

When DSIS and I were teenagers we were told that we NEEDED to be at City Hall in DL by 9:00pm, no excuses. So we decided to set our watches back 1 hour so we could get an extra hour in the park and still be on time.:thumbsup2 Needless to say, parents weren't too thrilled with us, but hey, we can't help it that both of our watches stopped working!:rotfl2:

Ive step on feet when people don't move down. It is hard to get by people in the middle of a row with feet and legs in the way.

Same here. Not necessarily deliberately (which I assume means that it wasn't a sin that needs confessing here ...)

Usually, people who sit down near the aisles have at least the decency to try to make room for those of us who do want to move on down the row. But now and then I've run across people who not only don't give way, but place all kinds of bags and other obstacles in front of them, or even - in one case - lift their feet up to rest on the back of the seat in front. In this case, I (deliberately) rammed through rather abruptly, and then stopped to say "oh, sorry, I didn't see your legs in the way - we were trying to reach those many empty seats there on the other side. "

Yes, I didn't mean that I do it deliberately. But I'm horrible at getting past people without either stepping or falling on them, or whacking them with whatever I'm carrying. I do whatever I can to avoid climbing over most people. I try to get an aisle seat at the movies or I get there early and don't get up till it's over, because when I do have to pass people something always goes wrong. I've actually slipped and ended up sitting in a stranger's lap at a concert once!:rotfl: So when someone stopped in the middle of the aisle at a Disney show I used to just stop also. And then I got sick of it, and decided if I stepped on them it's their own fault and so now I stand right next to them for a minute and just look expectantly, and if they still don't move I climb over. (That's only when the CM's are saying to keep moving, and not when the theater is almost empty and they're letting everyone sit wherever they want.) Sometimes I've stepped on their feet and sometimes I've whacked them with my wet poncho or bag, but it really isn't that I'm trying to. I'm just not trying not to as much as I used to.

Boy this thread keeps rearing its ugly head, reminding me of more DISins I have committed.

I have to admit that when we went on our first trip I was in awe over how clean everything is there, and how fast they are to clean up any mess that was made. However I still couldn't bring myself to flush with my hand, so my foot it was. So, I am sorry to all those who went after me and used your hand, if its any consolation the floors in there were really clean

The first time I went to disney I went with friends and I was 17 and at that time kids were 12 and younger...I got in for 12:rotfl:
Hey I looked 12 and being 17 with friends there I didn't have much money.:confused3

Tee hee :) Funny thread...all the confessions and hardly any bashing :)

I have one too:

Last year we had an early early ADR for Chef Mickeys and we arrived at the CR before the people at the parking gates arrived to take money for parking..then we just monorailed over to the MK to avoiding paying parking all day... Sinful I know

I haven't seen my sin posted yet...

Please tell me I'm not the only one who spent most of POTC making out with my boyfriend (and then got back on the ride 3 more times to continue the session!). The park was empty that day, and we kept getting a boat all to ourselves.

Ahhh...young love! And yes, I know know that there were CMs who probably saw the whole thing! :3dglasses

(Fortunately this was a long time ago...way before camera phones, etc! LOL!!)

DH and I rode alone on Alice in Wonderland, and got a warning from the CM to "keep our hands to ourselves." It made me wonder how many couples come bursting out onto the overpass in flagrante. At least on POTC, you have a little more time.

I've pool hopped and have taken the shampoo and other toiletries from resorts home with me, that's about it.

Would've been WAY faster to walk to MK.

How are we all doing my sinful little lambs?

How are we all doing my sinful little lambs?

I'm headed there this week for a few days. We'll see what other sins I'll rack up. I'll confess one already...we're staying on Disney property, but just going to Universal. Not going into the Disney parks at all this trip. ULTIMATE SIN.

Before I begin:
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I cannot accept,
And the wisdom to hide the bodies of those people
I had to kill today because they pissed me off.

And, help me to be careful
Of the toes I step on today as they
May be connected to the ***
That I might have to kiss tomorrow.

Amen.

Here I confess my Disney and DIS sins that I remember:

ANGER
*I have lost my temper in The Happiest Place in the World many, many times. I have cursed out a man who made idiotic comments about my parents in their ECVs after my dad had heart surgery and my mom had chemo back in 2007. I do believe I was forgive for that as a CM smiled at me, and CMs are angels in disguise.
*I lost my temper at my husband :tigger: when he went into uber type A personality with his touring plans, and I did dump him fully clothed into the hotel pool.
*I have many times been impatient with people while waiting in lines, while getting my heels smashed with strollers, while getting pushed and shoved in shops and crowds, and in many other situations. I have tried to limit my sin by removing myself from temptation as much as possible- using fast passes, going at lesser-crowded times, waiting out closing times by shopping and going to rides instead of the exit, and renting my own transportation.

GLUTTONY
*I confess that I have participated in the Disney Dining Plan, at times both getting it free and paying for it; however, I have learned my lesson and it is way too much food and will never ever bow to this particular temptation- unless I'm able to stack discounts... I'm only human...
*I confess that there have been days that I have had more than my share of Zebra Domes, Mickey Ice Cream Bars, Bailey's Cakes from the Ireland Booth at the Food and Wine Festival, and many other delicious sweet treats. I promise to do my best to broaden my horizons and not to leave out other treats that the Disney chefs work so hard on. :rotfl:
*I confess that with just :tigger: and myself, I don't see the need to buy multiple refillable mugs, so we buy one to share. We don't reuse them on multiple trips, we just use the same one between ourselves on the same trip, and pour one person's drink into a travel paper mug, then go back and refill the mug for the car.
*I confess that I have partaken in many Disney buffets, including but not limited to The Crystal Palace, Cinderella's Royal Table, Boma, and Chef Mickey's, and it was not for character interaction.

LUST/EXTRAVAGANCE
*I admit, that since I've been able to choose my own accommodations at Disney I have stayed Deluxe. However, I feel that it is the will of fate, not a temptation off evil powers, because things seem to work out- discounts for when we're going, or PIN codes, or some other deal that makes our choice the same as a moderate, or our budget able to stretch to meet the accommodation. If we ever need to stay at a moderate, I will be glad to be at Disney, and will not complain unless I have bedbugs. Or horrible service. Or crazy teenagers running through the hallways. Or other complaints that I see are validated here on the DIS.
*I buy new socks for our Disney trips. There is probably nothing wrong with our socks, I just get a kick out of having new socks for Disney.
*I do look for a unique souvenir to get from our trips- usually a Christmas ornament, but sometimes a piece of jewelry that may or may not be real.

GREED
* :tigger: and I went trick-or-treating during MNSSHP last year, and we plan on doing it this year as well. We also plan on purchasing a Mickey bucket to hold more candy. However, I try to negate this by giving out the candy to the CMs at the hotel, and kids that we meet at the hotel.
* We make our ADRs 180 days out, and occasionally we have multiple ADRs for a meal. Last trip, :tigger: made the ADRs and didn't realize that he made multiple ones under different phone numbers until the day of, so we handed off the extra reservation to people in the park.
*We send one person off to get fast passes for certain attractions. Depending on who you talk to, this is either a sin or not, but I'm confessing so it may be covered.
*When we go to a quick service, one of us will get in line, while the other gets the incidentals (ketchup, mustard, straws, napkins), and then finds the table and cleans it. We don't see the need in both of us to be in line, and since we go during down seasons, we've not ran into the queue issue I've read about. We have always shared our table with others if it's been an issue.

SLOTH
*We rent our own transportation rather than deal with the hassle of WDW transportation, which cools us down faster.
*We swim at our own resort in the middle of the day.
*We swim outside of posted hours.
*We have saved tables/chairs at the pool.
*We have ordered room service.

PRIDE
*We have waited for the perfect picture of the castle/golf ball/ ToT, and will do so.
*We waited in line for our photopass picture, and will wait for it to be perfect, and get many many takes.
*We have done the private photopass package, and actually got some good pictures.
*I have ridden IASM listening to the melting doll song from the Johnny Depp Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

ENVY
*I envy those who are perfect, who make no mis-steps, and those who have no doubts or no shadows on their lives. I have many, and wish that they would leave. That's why I go to Disney, because that is one of my happy places, where I feel that I'm not judged, and can find the magic, even if I want to poke fun at it.

This is priceless! Thanks for the giggles! :rotfl:

That was one of the best times sis.:rotfl2:

I could only think of one off the top of my head (beside using FPs later than the time stamped).

Our 1st trip in 93 my sister was only 2 and in an umbrella stroller. We stayed @ CBR and were looking in the gift shop. My sister had a fetish for plastic/PVC type of figures and she must have grabbed 2 when no one was looking, we walked out of the gift shop and started walking towards the bus, the bus comes and my sis gets out of the stroller and in her hand were 2 little belle figures :headache:. I guess my mom didn't know what to do, I think she was mortified.

Since then we have dubbed her klepto.

in '09 we went to DL and my DD (3 at the time) wanted a Princess pen. Told her no. She was in her stroller as well. When we were out of the store already walking away I noticed she had the pin in her hand. She would not give it up or go back in the store. So to save myself from headache I went to the store and stood in line to pay for the pen. Well 10minutes later and still 8 people ahead of me. I thought what am I doing? So I left and told exDH that I paid for it. Believe me I paid for it with bad karma later that trip when someone stole my camera at Sea World. Now I make sure all hands are empty when walking out a store.

I guess it is time for me to ask for forgiveness and repent for my Disney sins...

We have pool hopped when not supposed to (we own DVC and hopped during black out times)

We take pool towels back to our rooms, but always return them. Even have taken them to the water parks.

We let DS's pee in the bushes at the bus stops. (they were very little and not anymore)

DH and I jumped in the BW pool one night after 2am and a fantasic night at Jellyrolls.

We have reused mugs from one trip to another.

Oh there is probably more, please forgive the ones I can't remember.

It's hit or miss. My parents went to WDW in Spring of this year. They hung around one morning to speak with Mousekeeping about some issue, and ended up talking about my DD. They went to the parks, and when they got back there was a towel animal, with a handwritten note, telling them to take it home for their granddaughter.

So there is precedent out there that some Mousekeepers are setting for sending towel animals home with people.

The first time we stayed on property and got a towel animal, I called guest services, asked for a manager and asked if it was possible to purchase the animals as my girls loved them so much they were heart broken at the thought of having to leave them. Manager said of course we could take them, no charge. Since then whenever we have especially liked one we have simply taken it....some are just ok so we usually just write a note thanking mousekeeping for it, but the really nice ones we take home. That first set sat on their bookshelf for a long time...and of course got covered in dirt and dust until it was disgusting. Tried to hand wash it but of course that failed miserably, so that first set is gone. But since then we put them in the little plastic boxes from the dollar store and display them without risking them catching all the dust bunnies in the house, lol.

If you aren't sure if the policy is universal or still in effect, just ask. If they don't want you to have it, they'll say so, but I've yet to read of anyone asking and being turned down, so at least you'll know you had permission!

Of course, remember to tip your Mousekeeper for the animal so that they keep doing them for the rest of us too! I worry so many don't tip they'll eventually stop making them....and then I'd end up embarassing myself by begging to let me pay them to make us one, lol.

My confession would be that we celebrate our birthdays long after the fact....but it's because all of my family was born in the summer (2 in June, 1 July and 1 August). No way would we ever go to Disney in the summer.....way too hot, way to crowded. We wait until ya'll are back in school and work and go in nice weather low crowds, lol (ok, is that a confession-able offense too that I gloat about being able to go during off season? Heck, I'm typing this from a hotel a block from Disneyland...kids are in the park, I'm resting my swollen ankle, lol).

So....we always pick one day and declare that "family birthday day" and celebrate fully like it's the real thing. We only wear our birthday pins that one day, we always pick a very nice restaurant to celebrate in, but it's always in our November/December trip, so it's months after the fact.

But....as with the towels, we also asked our first year about celebrating birthdays.....we were in line at Guest Services to ask something else our first morning and the person in front got a birthday pin and so we asked what that was about (we hadn't yet found DIS)....she told us, and offered us "un-birthday" pins. She wrong UN on it, but we were wished happy UNbirthdays all day long. We got to talking with a Suit and he wished up UNbirthday and we lamented how we'd never come in the summer so UN was the best we'd ever do but it was great fun too. He's the one that suggested we pick a day and celebrate. We've done that every year.

Really, Disney wants you to enjoy yourself.....and if that means celebrating something important when you're IN Disney instead of forgetting it because it happened last week or last month....nopes, they want to be a PART of that celebration (after all won't that make us think favorably on them that they were a part of our baby's 1st or 51st birthday even if it wasn't the actual day). They are ALL about memories....and those things we celebrate are the memories. I think the "sin" would be in wearing your birthday pin all week long and taking multiple days of free desserts. That is wrong in my opinion because it's taking advantage of their generosity. And to me it would aso take away the "sepecialness" to ME.

The mugs....well, that's going to be a thing of the past here shortly, since they have the little chip in the mugs at one of the All Stars (I can't remember which one right now).....so I guess that one bothered Disney enough that they're doing something.

Towels....we've never stayed somewhere that they charge for extra towels, and we've always asked for extras because both my girls have waist length hair. But I can't really say I'd be too pleased about having to pay for towels so yeah, I may be tempted to committ that sin if Disney ever told me I had to pay for extra towels, lol.

And I will confess to a future sin.....my girls and I travel to Disney several times a year, but very soon my teens will reach the age where they are suddenly going to be charging me $25 a night for the three of us to share a room because they'll both turn 18 at the same time. Sorry, but I have yet to hear any reason for charging for a 3rd adult, so I will quite likely be lying about their age. I know that by the time they're 19 they'll be away at college and our trips with all three of us are likely to be over, but that last year I can't see where they're going to cost Disney more then they did the month before their 18th birthday. And since they're never with me at check in, can't stand to wait in line so they always go exploring, Disney will never know.

In fact, when they were younger they wrecked more havoc on the room than they do now, lol. I always tipped big for Mousekeeping when they were younger and left things everywhere and I was too lazy/tired/in a hurry to get to the park to clean up all their stuffed animals, toys, hair do-das, etc and left it for Mousekeeping to work around or clean for us. Now that they're neater I don't feel as guilty and don't usually tip heavy, lol.

Another confession and this one will likely get me a few dirty stares.....but it wasn't on purpose. We had free dining. DH was supposed to meet us the day after we got there as he was coming from a business trip and we were coming from home. Well, I checked in, told them he'd be there in the morning and could they give him a room key then as we'd be at the park (and he'd call us when he was rested and ready to join us). Ok, they said, and loaded my room key with all of our free dining credits for all 4 of us. Well, next day he calls and has to stay a few more days but he'll come later in the week...ok....can you see where this is going? 2 week trip and he never made it...but we had all his dining credits to use, because it honestly didn't occur to me to have them take them off our key. We'd dutifully made all our ADR's months before for all 4 of us....we had reservations at California Grill (2 credits) and at the Castle (2 credits). We had planned to pay out of pocket at a CS to make up for those extra TS credits. Well, we didn't end up having to of course because he never got to come. But, I don't think we used any other of his credits....it's plenty (and often too much) food with the dining plan for us anyway. We had already paid for his one day ticket, and saved that for another trip. So...wrong, yeah, but it wasn't on purpose and it honestly didn't even occur to me until the end of our trip when we realized we had so many credits left. In our defense, while we had used all our TS and a couple of his, we eac had a couple CS leftover for US that we didn't use, and as always we had tons of our own snack credits left too. So we left a lot of our own on the table so in some way it may have evened out cost wise so we weren't really hurting Disney. Every trip, whether free or paid dining, we always have leftover snacks.....often we'll cash them in at Goofy's or popcorn or something on the way out, but we also have been known to leave them because we just don't want anything more. In the end I'm not going to feel bad about it....Disney has a lot of our money in it's coffers, lol.

I've really enjoyed this thread...still have lots to read, but it's nice to hear that our sins aren't really all that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.

Probably not too much of a sin, but on a recent Disneyland trip, my friends "snuck" me into the Magic Morning when I didn't have one available to use (they all had PHs, I was on an AP). If I wasn't able to get in I probably would have just waited outside until regular hours, but even though I did get let in legitimately (the gate CM apparently used some sort of trick to do it), my friends still spent much of the day heckling me about how they will let any random riffraff into the place these days.

Again, pretty minor. If I tried to do it again it would probably fall into more obvious sin territory.
