The DisFort's Chit Chat Cafe

Kris you got lucky with Mom's rug. Two months after we got the Savage Sisters aka Sky and Katie we thought we could leave them out of their crates while we went a concert. When we got home there was Brown FUR . ALL THrough the living room and Kitchen. My WookieBear( See my Avatar) was no where to be seen and she wouldn't come when I called her. Happily she was hiding behind Lucille's chair and end table and came out after I threw the SS into the yard and was panic searching for her. The fur was 2 throw pillows the Savages had destroyed playing Tug of War with

Time for some Whisky updates. She was really happy to see us come back to Mom's to pick her up after our trip. She is still not a good car rider. I bought a harness and strap to buckle into the seat so that is helping. We took her back to Mom's last weekend for dinner. Again trying to get her used to it. Plus i want her to feel like Mom's house is the second home. On Sunday took her on a good long walk to tire her out. We had to do some home repairs at mom's. Replace the shutters. Of course one window went on easily and the other no. We had to stop because we needed to get a mason drill bit. Ordered from Amazon and we have it. The only issue is we are not going to Mom's this weekend.

Are you ready for it??

We are going to take Whisky out in the RV tomorrow. Going up to our favorite Crossing Creek in Blairsville. We have not been in the RV since we were doing the remodel. Sep was that last time it was out. I know it was not a good thing. We tried to go to Crossing Creek in June before taking it to PA. Obviously I had to cancel all that. Then the plan was to go July 23 but work messed that up and we were able to move our week to tomorrow. I am scared. I have no idea how Whisky will do riding in the RV or living in the RV. Plus i have no idea what is going to work and what is not going to work. We all know something is not going to work.

Here is Whisky in the car on the way home from Mom's and then playing with the other dogs in the building.

OK, so I've not been on the boards much and long behind on some updates. Older brother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer back in May. It was way past treatment as he hadn't been to the doctor in years for other health issues. We have been dealing with this and work and everything else. Sadly he passed away in June so we've been handling his affairs and what not. I recently got a new phone and as such I can't seem to get email updates to come to my phone. That being said, trying to get back in the groove and have had the chance to get out and camp a few times. Still following along.

Sorry to hear about your brother. Glad you have been out camping a few times. Prayers for you and family with all you have to deal with.

Kris You might want to get an child gate to install so you can getting and out of the RV without your Little girl flying out the door every time you get in or out

She does not like car rides and that includes the RV. I am glad from storage it is just under 2 hours. She would not stay in the crate. She was tear the screen. I had her out then and held her leash. All she wanted to do was jump in Bert’s lap. She did sit most of the time but constantly changed sits. She laid down about 5 minutes before we got here for like 30 seconds. We also took her on a long walk and a romp at the dog park this morning to tire her out. I was hoping she would sleep during the drive but nope. Not quite all settled in but enough to send Bert for food. She is sleeping now.

None of ours liked the Diesel engines very much either. Wookiebear on 1st long trip decided she would lay down on my feet as I was attempting to turn onto entrance ramp to I 95. Maggie wanted to get in Lucille's lap. They soon decided to floor space where Lucille's feet belonged.
Sky never really liked it and always wanted to be in Lucille's lap Katie got better as time went on . Their early days. they were about same age as Missy Whiskey is now. I will expect in time she will get better. When she sees it means going places and doing things she finds fun will make it all worth while

So far little Miss Whisky is not loving the RV. Last night she would not pee before bed. I walked her for at least 30 minutes up and down the site and no pee. Finally came in and hoped for the best. We shut the door to the front because I was worried about chewing. Apparently she bothered bert at 11:30 so he took her out and nothing. Then she tried to get in bed with me at 2:30. Again worried she needed to pee, I took her out. I did have success and thought I was good for the night. Nope, the air conditioner units coming on scare her. At 4:30 she again climbed in bed with me. I took her out because I knew she was nervous. She did pee again. She did not want to go back to the bedroom though. Since I am a good mommy. I grabbed my pillows and blanket and slept on the floor with her till 7. It’s 8 now, everyone is asleep except me. I did move to the couch. Time to make some coffee. Today we are going to hike.

Kris welcome to my world. Our Sky is not cooperative about going while being walked on a leash. I bet once she hits the dog parks no problem. My only suggestion is to WALK her as often as you can, praise her like she just gave the greatest gift and use Dog Park as a reward time. You may be the one spoiling her but it looks like Bert has a new DADDY'S GIRL

Let's talk about Sunday. As I reported above first night was not great. Sunday we romped and then we went for a hike. This meant getting in the car. She still does not like the car ride and rests her head on bert's arm and slobbers all over him. We went to Vogel State Park which is about a 25 minute drive from the campground. We planned to hike Bear Hair Gap trail, but we messed up so we hiked Coosa Creek trail and then met with Bear Hair and took Bear Hair. The good thing was no out and back and it was about the same distance. It was 5 miles with 1000 ft of gain. Whisky did really good on the hike. She is a good water drinker she always wants water. We took extra for her and glad we did. Then it was back in the car. She was slightly more settled and only because she was so tired. She did not want to stand the entire time so she did lay down on the seat for a few minutes.

Back at the rig was lunch and then we went on the roof to fix up some dicor. After that setup the tv outside and watched soccer. Whisky finally looked happy and slept in the grass.

We had our campfire last night so that meant dinner was hot dogs and dessert was smores. We burned all the wood. Will see if we get more.

At bedtime we took Whisky for a walk and a romp. I am not sure who did it but someone gave my dog puppy uppers. After sleeping all day after the hike, she decided she needed to burn energy. Chasing the ball and zoomies, then I ran her around the campground and she was chasing and jumping to get the bugs. I was hoping we tired her out enough to sleep. Decided that we were not going to try and shut her in the bedroom. She slept in the living room, while sad i want her with me, i was happy to get a good night rest.

Whisky is not a morning person. On her walk this morning she laid down in the grass and would not go. Bert had to pick her up and carry her some. She seems to sleep all day and comes alive at night, ugh.

Pics coming next

Kris sounds like Whiskey needs some more structure in her life. Getting bounced around every week likely has her confused. That plus at 8 months she is at her peak PUPPY POWER days. Give her 2 weeks or so at home and a regular schedule and I bet she will settle in.
Letting her sleep the afternoon away after your hike just recharged her batteries. let her have a short nap followed by walk and play time will help

@FtW Mike yes at least today even though we are at the rig, we are working. I was up early. Took her out to pee, fed her, i went for my run, and then she went for a walk. I need to get her out for lunch time romp.

I will say i think i am purposely trying to confuse her :) Keeps her on her toes.

Kris, Miss Whiskey is so cute. In time she will settle down. You two are wonderful parents to her. I hope your Mom is doing OK? Your family is in my prayers. Sunday Grumpy Aggie will be gone 22 months. Feels like yesterday.

I left off with Monday afternoon. All was going well, i was able to work outside in the afternoon so whisky was out too. It rained about 4 but not hard and we went in. It stopped around 5 and then got food going on the grill, it was salmon and asparagus. I took whisky out to pee before dinner and right after she peed it started to rain again. Bert got food done in the rain and pulled it off the grill just as it started to pour. It POURED. We sat inside for dinner and noticed a drip. A pretty significant drip :( Not much we could do at the moment. We had to wait out the rain until 9 pm and then we took whisky for a walk but not romp as everything was soaked. Monday night was fine she slept in the living room again. She did not leave the living room much, not even to go into the kitchen.

Tuesday I had meetings all day. First thing though was getting out the ladder to see if we could find where the leak was. We laid down some silicone on the slide corner and hoped that was the spot. I never got outside to work and at 3 the major storm hit, we even had a power dip. The silicone seemed to work. We did not see the drip. Thankfully the rain ended about 5 so we went for a walk and then cooked up dinner, burgers, corn and green beans. We also cooked the brats but those are for Friday. Took Whisky out again and she found a friend to romp with in the dog park. I was so happy we burned out some energy. we then just sat outside till bed time since it was nice.

Bert was suffering some major allergies on Tuesday so he was pretty miserable. Also of note, Whisky decided to explore a tad in the RV. She actually came back into the bedroom on her own. She did not stay long but she did come back. Tuesday night she started by sleeping in the living room. Then she must have decided she really does like us and at 2 am decided to get in bed with us to sleep. We have 3 rules on dogs. 1. No dogs in the bed. 2. No dogs on the furniture unless it is dog specific. 3. No people food comes from me and goes to the dog, except peanut butter in her kong. Well she tried 3 times to get in bed. She would cuddle up at our feet. You could tell she just wanted to sleep with us. We did not cave even tough i wanted to. I ended up sleeping on the couch and this kept her on the floor in the living room. I can't wait to see how tonight goes.

A few uneventful days. Wednesday was pretty normal lots of meetings so no outside time till after work. It was national Hot Dog day on wednesday so we had a campfire and made hot dogs. Whisky found more friends in the park and had a good romp. We blocked the step so she could not join us in bed. She tried but slept in the living room. Thursday was more of the same, meetings, pork chops on the grill with grilled veggies, and whisky playing with friends in the dog park. She was super tired last night and did not even bother in the bedroom. Its Friday at lunch, she went for her walk and wanted to stay outside. i have 3 more short meetings so taking them from outside. Need to start packing and cleaning up. We head home tomorrow. Hoping to go to the local winery this afternoon and bringing Whisky. She needs another car ride.

Just back from a 4 night stay at Buttonwood Campground near Mifflintown, PA. This was our first visit and really wasn't sure what to expect even based on reviews. What we found was a very well staffed and well cared for campground. There was lots of staff making sure trash got picked up through the day, watching over all the various activities. They do not have a lot of staging/checking area so what they do is first escort you to your site upon arrival and then have to go to the store/office to check in. They insist on getting setup and settled and just go before closing, that laid back attitude really helps to set the mood right away.

The campground is situated right along the Juniata River. We had site 343 which was a nice end slot pull through site and maybe 100 yards from the river. I suggest water shoes, there are a lot of rocks and while I have waterproof sandals some of the rocks got between my toes and sandal making enclosed water shoes are better suited and about 16 bucks there if you don't own any. They have an activity band that is 20 bucks per person for the week, and it includes a whole lot. Most of all unlimited tube time, so you can head 2 miles up river and float back to the campground. This was a fun thing and we would raft up a few tubes together and just talk and relax. Also included mini golf, pedal carts, laser tag, and more.

Definitely a great place to take the family. We went with our framily and had a great time together.

So if you are looking for a place to go around these parts, I can recommend this one.

This weekend I am off the to race track solo. Melissa gets some time home alone with the hallmark channel and the girls go see their dad for the first time in 2 weeks due to schedules. I might take a pup, but with the temps forecasted they may get to stay here since its just easier.
