Hey guys just an FYI,

If anyone is going to be down at WDW on either the 16th or 17th, a couple of meets have been planned that I wanted to open up an invitation to my fellow DIS Dads Club members.

I'm organizing a Spectromagic Dole Whip Meet on May 16th at 8pm. For information on this, click the link in my signature.

I'm also participating in the Mammoth May Meet at Epcot on the 17th at 3pm which has about 50 confirmed to date.

Hope some of you can make either meet.:goodvibes

thanks for the invite! we are leaving to come home may 15 @3:30 am. i missed both of them! have a good time!:thumbsup2

she opened mine first and than she told me to open mine. same env., never noticed. after this year, she only has two more years to go w/ dance. i dont know what im going to do w/ all the extra time. im figuring the $10,000 a year i pay for dance will go to the col. she decides on going to. she keeps wearing "lehigh univ." shirts.:scared1: with help, thats about $50,000 per year. she dont know it yet but her grandfather, when he passed away, who she never met, has that taken care of! it will be a hs grad present. like i said before, i have no idea were the years went!!

That's awesome that her grandfather would take care of her college! And it's unfortunate that she never got to meet him.
I never knew dance was so expensive. I'll keep that in mind when DD(6) asks me if she wants to start dancing. :rolleyes1

Bummer - my boys and I don't arrive for our Father/Sons getaway pirate: til May 29... too late for this time - but it sure would be fun. I hope whoever might be able to meet up has a great time!!

hay stopher, how was your trip to wdw?

I had a wonderful 3 days there before heading on to my real business in FL. The weather was remarkable, the crowds were mostly lite while I was there, and I had a great time playing. The family was jealous of course, since they were at home, but after 15 years, my DW totally gets my obsession and doesn't really complain about my tacking on a few days here and there when I can. So I'm thankful for that.

I took a bunch of photos, but none of me there this time - just more landscapes, buildings and the like to add to my screensaver files at work. I DID experience the new American Idol attraction at the Studios. AI can be such a polarizing thing, in so many ways - you either like it, can't stand it, or just don't watch it - we watch it in our household, and all 5 of us get into it, I must admit... so I was a bit skeptical going to a theme park show - but I must say that I think they did a really good job. Now certainly having that particular brand involved, it had to be "good" - but I'll take it up a notch and say that it turned out between good and great.

While there it was a crazy kind of experience on Monday - in that I hit all 4 parks plus Blizzard Beach - and got to do everything that I really wanted to in each one! Started with the EMH morning at AK, then off to BB, then over to DTD for some lunch, MK for a short while, over to Epcot, and then over to DHS for EMH evening. Being just me I was able to do it - if I had anyone with me, it wouldn't have worked out. Did more of the same Sunday afternoon/evening and Tuesday morning/early afternoon before heading out to my conference in Tampa - but nothing like I was able to do on Monday. Previously my personal best was a triple park whammy with DTD thrown in, but wow - I was impressed. Got on Everest twice, and the Safari before leaving AK. Did all the big slides at BB (except for Summit Plummet), and went around the lazy river all the way. Then back to the resort for a quick change/clean up (was at All Star Music, so just down the road from BB), and off to DTD for a quick bite at Wolfgang Puck Express. Headed over to the Poly and rode the monorail to MK. Got on Space Mtn, Buzz & did COP then off to Epcot. Went around the WS lagoon and hit France and Norway's attractions. Then over to DHS and spent the rest of the evening there, starting with the AI Experience, and on to RNR, TOT and the Great Movie Ride. Obviously there were some stops here and there and I had a quick dinner at the studios at the Commissary. I did more attractions on Sunday and Tuesday to fill in the roster of stuff so between each of the 3 days, I really did do all of the "big" and truly classic attractions, and lots of the littler or lesser ones too. All in all I had a very enjoyable time there.

With that said, I also have some pics to share from my DW & my trip to Disneyland last month to celebrate (albeit early) our 15th Anniversary. This past Thursday (12th) was the actual day - but we were able to enjoy a nice 4 day kid-free trip to DL in February. Here's a link with some photos of that trip... it was awesome.

Only 11 days? You got that. :lmao:

My trip is a "Boys Only" trip too. :thumbsup2 It will be my DS and my 5th time without DW (and he's 4 :rotfl: )

I'm the submitter of DIS Dad #98: You have a standing deal with your wife that you can visit Disney every year as long as you take the kids.

We're headed down for Star Wars Weekends. Never been to one, but always wanted to... my oldest is now 13 and the interest is waning, so we knew we needed to capitalize on it this year as next year he just might be "too cool" for the experience. :rotfl: 2-3 years ago was the "height" of the Star Wars craze in our household, but with nothing new (and good - that Clone Wars movie blew IMO as well as my boys) from Lucas to fuel it, they are moving on to other stuff.

Wow! All 4 parks AND BB! Amazing... something I aspire to achieve one day.
Congratulations on your 15th and thanks for sharing your pictures with us. We've never discussed a DL trip, but your pictures has made me reconsider for a future trip :thumbsup2

DL is definitely smaller than MK, but at the same time it's bigger... I know that sounds strange. In acreage it's definitely smaller. DL is 100 or so acres, whereas MK is something like 130 acres or so. The walkways at DL are narrower, and the indiviual lands are a bit more compact - but there are more attractions, shows and stuff to do and see in that single park than any single park at WDW. There are backstage tours available, but I can't say if any of them go up into Walt's apartment over the firehouse or not. I've never taken one. Up until just last year, the other apartment that he had built but never actually got to stay in due to his death, was open to the public since it was the home of The Disney Gallery. It's above the POTC in New Orleans Square and it was quite nice. Unfortunately it's not available anymore as it was taken over by the Dreams folks and turned into the Dream Suite during the YOMD dreams campaign. Now, like the Cindy Castle suite they use it for special guests, VIPs, etc. Hopefully someday you can get out there. To compare the two Magic Kingdoms - WDW is imposing and impressive, while DL is a bit more friendly and charming. You see it in the castles, in Main Street, everything really. They are both wonderful places though.

:thumbsup2 thanks for the info. stopher!! if i ever get a chance to go, i will talk to you first!! myself and dd are taking the mk back stage tour when we go in october, we are both looking forward to it. she has been waiting to turn 16 for the last 10 years so she can take the tour. my dw said she likes what she sees and dont want to spoil anything. i would love to see what is behind the sets in car.of progress! im sure its just wires, lights etc.. but i allways wondered what was back there?

I hear what you are saying! I loved being backstage when I worked at DL - and it didn't spoil the magic for me at all. It was amazing when I got to see how things worked, and were put together... enjoy that tour! That's awesome. :thumbsup2

i forget you were a former cm. so, did you manage to get behind the car. of prog or another bet dw and i have w/ each other for 24 years, the last scene, the father standing behind the kit. counter, is he wearing pants? i say yes and dw says no. do you have any conections yet that could settle that one?

No, I will say I've never been able to get behind the scenes at WDW - so I cannot settle the debate between you and your DW about the father in COP. But my guess is he does have pants on. I say that simply because the characters I have seen at DL behind the scenes (inside the HM, POTC, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln and what was then the America Sings attraction that replaced the COP after it moved east to live on at WDW) were all dressed as if they were being seen on stage completely, regardless of whether they were partially on stage or fully on stage.

i allways wanted to just walk up to the cm and see if there was a door i could just look into? but im sure i would be turned down. ill just have to wait to see how much they show us on the backstage tour. i hear they take you into the utilidor at the castle and bring you up in the hm. as you can tell, i cant wait!!:rotfl2:

I can't wait to hear about it! That's definitely a tour I want to take, but when I was reading about it last week while at the World, I saw an age minimum, so I need to wait til the kids are older... or do it myself, but THAT would be cruel to them, since they want to do it too. Oh well, I guess I'm waiting...
