Thanks CJ, that was a great review. I sent the link to DW, I hope she likes it too. When I asked her where she wanted to go, she said House of Blues, as if!
We did the Gospel Brunch at HOB in Myrtle Beach. We had a really cute waitress and I was confused as to how something with a religious ties had me checking lust and gluttony off the seven deadly sins. Come to think about it there wasn't much going on that weekend so sloth was probably in there as well!

Scott, as far as suggestions for your April 5th Epcot day (if you haven't decided already) - my whole family also loves Teppon Edo (the youngers ones enjoy the show more than the food itself, which my wife and I enjoy, but still...). The kids also enjoyed Akerhaus (the food was par for the course for a Disney buffet (with a few good items thrown in there), but once again the kids enjoyed the atmosphere - it is a lot like CRT, but on a much smaller scale. Nicecy though, you still get the princess "meet and greets"). While it is not always the most popular choice, my wife and I usually enjoy Chefs de France (for a more romantic style dinner - which is always not easy with three kids sitting there staring up at us!). Of course, we also may be partial to it because we were stationed in Europe a few years back and eating there is very reminiscent for us for our trips to France. Coral Reef is also another tasty choice (pretty good food and a fun atmosphere for the kids (with the whole aquarium thing going). Hope this may have helped. Hope you get what you want.

I'm adding Teppan Edo to our list for consideration. Do you happen to know how the food works there with the dining plan?

i think they call that creeeeepin now days. :lmao:

Says the man who apparently hides in the bushes and watches the golfers go by.:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Nice coffee maker:thumbsup2 Do you have a custom traveling case for it? DW got a sample pack of all the flavors of instant Nescafe in the mail last month. I asked her if they came with a threatening letter because obviously someone wants us dead!

From this picture it looks like Fed might have been there with his beefed up golf cart with spinners doing burn-outs! :rotfl2:

Mark - I have a DOT related question. I realize this could be different based on geographic areas, but do you have an idea of the approximate cost difference per mile between hot mix asphalt and cold mix?

Our county hwy dept has been re-paving some roads the past few years. Some they're doing a very good job and paving with hot mix. Others they're putting cold mix down which has been making for a very nice, smooth road until the first tractor turns onto it. I mowed around a corn field yesterday with my lawnmower because they just repaved the road last month. I normally use a tractor and a batwing mower, but I know I'd tear the Beverly out of it mowing around telephone poles with that rig. We always try to be careful and let the stuff cure before we get anything heavy on them, although next summer once it heats up, I'm sure I'll do just as much damage as I'd have done right after they finished it.:headache:

Anyway, I was just thinking about that when I was mowing. I didn't know if it was more cost effective to "do it right" once or just do a decent job now and fix it again in a few years. It is obvious that they're currently employing both strategies though. Thought maybe a DOT engineer might have some insight on the matter.

Typically, we've found that it's more cost effective to "do it right" the first time with hot mix than to do a temporary fix with cold mix. But it depends on a lot of factors:

--How much of the road needs to be repaired? If it's a low-volume road or just a small damaged area, the quick fix may be all that's needed.
--How much money do you have to spend? When you have to take care of every road in the state, you only have so much to spend per road, and not all roads get equal priority. I don't have the cost figures in front of me, but cold mix is significantly cheaper than hot mix ($75/ton on a project I had bid a couple years ago--it fluctuates with oil prices).
--Is there a project coming on that road within the next few years? If so, it would make more sense to throw down a quick fix now just to bide the time until a major project comes along.
--Has the government sent you "stimulus" money and then tied your hands by stating it can only be used on "shovel-ready" projects? If, say, your state has been efficient and built projects as they've become ready instead of letting them sit on the shelf, you may not have many "shovel-ready" projects, and may find yourself scrambling to spend that money on re-paving roads as part of a political shell game in order to show that you're putting people to work and not "wasting" stimulus money. Ahem. :rolleyes1

I really wish politics didn't intrude so much on our decisions, but that's reality.

In any case, we've been experimenting lately with "warm-mix" asphalt, which is "green" technology that reduces fossil fuel use and is available for use on project faster because it doesn't need to be heated as much, which helps us build projects faster. Supposedly it has similar load-bearing characteristics to hot-mix. In Delaware, we typically use cold-mix only for temporary patching (we actually call it "cold patch") jobs.

My wife was going to order me a Kindle for Christmas, and in fact did so 2 days ago. Now they just announced the Kindle Fire, which doesn't cost a lot more and works more like a tablet. So do I

a) stick with the original order, since all I really wanted was an e-reader.
b) cancel and wait until they drop the prices on the original Kindles
c) cancel and order the Fire since it provides more value for not much extra $$
d) don't do anything until the reviews come out
e) buy an iPad
f) all of the above, or
g) take the money and invest in bacon instead?

Good Afternoon Everyone!

In a related note, I once had a partial tear of my achilles. It happened at MK. I was doing the College Program. I worked MK custodial and it was my day to shadow the road crew. I was riding along and we stopped backstage behind POTC and as I jumped out of the pickup, I felt the shooting pain in my heel. I couldn't walk and when my shift ended, I was taken to a "walk-in" clinic :rotfl2: I was on crutches the next 2 weeks while it healed. A month later I would have knee surgery there as well for torn cartilage (an injury I sustained before going down there.) I spent nearly 2 whole months of my semester working there on crutches! It was still a great time though.
Glad you got some good news from the doc. I agree, instructions should be in writing, especially when under the influence of prescription painkillers.:lmao::rotfl2:

Looks like you had an injury prone summer with the CP. Glad you enjoyed the experience though!

I am sitting on campus waiting for the Director (Dept Dean in waiting). I had an earlier project meeting today and have 30 more minutes to wait. I am enjoying the view on campus today, and don't remember girls wearing their tops so low cut when I was in school - not that I'm complaining. I would post pictures but am nervous enough. I'll either get fired, get a raise, or get more work assigned. I'm not liking my odds.
Pictures or it didn't happen. :rolleyes1

Just kidding, good luck. I hope it isn't anything too bad.

Typically, we've found that it's more cost effective to "do it right" the first time with hot mix than to do a temporary fix with cold mix.
Thanks for the info. I was just thinking about it yesterday and I figured Captain O could give me some insight on it!:rotfl2: $75/ton would definitely add up quickly. The cold jobs are mostly on the lower traffic roads. That said, those lower traffic roads also endure more punishment from farm machinery and semis. I need to get a picture sometime, but I have an asphalt driveway that is older than the road and in great shape, but the road is torn to shreds at the end of my driveway where we're always turning in and out with semis and tractors.

The main roads they've been working on with hot mix have been funded by money from a wheel tax they just put in a few years ago. The tax went into effect and they put up signs saying "Your Wheel Tax Dollars at Work" Those signs coincidentally enough, were posted along some of the worst roads in the county for about 2 years before any work was started. To say that became a running joke would be an understatement.:lmao::rotfl2:

I knew that politics was playing a role in it, I just wanted an experts take on how these things typically work. Thanks!:thumbsup2

Were you doin' burnouts in the grass again?:lmao:
No, he just managed to get stuck on flat ground. That takes some skill. :lmao::rotfl2:

I think I would go with d... kind of take a wait and see approach. See if the new one is getting good reviews or if the drop the price on the old one, then make an informed decision! :thumbsup2

Although g is very tempting.:rolleyes1

Calling all DisDad Doctor's...

We switched our family Dr. recently.

During our checkup's the Dr. seemed concerned with something he found on my son. He had him X-ray'ed for Scoliosis (curvature of the spine). Curious how the last Dr. never seemed to notice it.

Anyways, after getting the X-ray, we found out the results today.

He said that it shows a 14% curve in the L1 (Lower lumbar - I think), and 7% in the upper or mid (I don't remember). He said they don't start to treat it until 20%.

He is 7 years old.

The Dr. said there is nothing we can do, and we should wait another year and X-ray again.

Anyone have any experience? Any words of advice, encouragement, etc...?

I don't know alot about E-readers.

But my mother has a Kobo, and she loves it.

According to her (and I am not sure how accurate this info is). The Public libraries offer E-books - but ONLY for the Kobo. That was her deciding factor when buying. She can now download books free, and they stay on the device for 2 weeks, and then automatically delete themselves.

Baltimore has a baseball team???????????:lmao::lmao::lmao:

and a football team???????????????:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Wow, I didn't think I was in Minnesota that long ;)

They did have a team in the Canadian Football League for a bit. Could that be the team?

;)

I have a Nook and can get books from the library for free also.

I still like Bacon better.

Seconded.

I'm adding Teppan Edo to our list for consideration. Do you happen to know how the food works there with the dining plan?

It is a Table serve and works the same as the others, just the tip will most likely be bigger since it is alittle more expensive then alot of Table serves:goodvibes Might as well get the most out of the DP:confused3:cool1:
