Nice pictures and I'm glad you guys got to meet up. So what was in the trunk? Was it that tall Asian guy with long hair that Dave keeps talking about? :lmao::rotfl2:

Hi there, hey there, my name is Jim. After reading your “qualifications” list for DisDads, I think probably over three quarters of your descriptions fit me. I’m what you might call a true lifetime Disney enthusiastic. When I am not at one of our family’s annual pilgrimages to the Disney World (next one in just over a month (second week of November), I work as an active duty military (Navy) member. I grew up anticipating the Wonderful World of Disney every weekend and have always loved all the classic Disney movies. Not willing to give up my passion for Disney when I “grew up” (which only grew itself) my wife and I not only celebrated our honeymoon at the Magic Kingdom (it was her first trip to any Disney Park, which also launched a long term fixation with the magic only Disney can create for her), but we also recently celebrated our 20th anniversary (with the help of some true Disney magic and some incredible cast members). Luckily (and perhaps with a little positive parental influence), all of our three boys seems to have inherited our passion for all things Disney.
Welcome to the DDC! Thanks for your service!

"Oh GREAT!" :lmao::lmao::lmao: Glad you made it safely! Still waiting for the picture that has you in hand cuffs! :rotfl2:

:lmao::lmao::lmao: You know, we didn't even think of it...:rotfl2::rotfl2: I felt bad for Dave, he looked exhausted

Is that the truck stop off of exit 1?

Looks awful familiar....

The Cisco is closed (he was cheating gas customers, pumping .75 gallons even though charging for 1.0 gallons--and then he committed suicide right before Federal Trial)...the Hess is still open though.

This pic is from the Florida Welcome Center...home of the free fruit juice:lmao:

Those lights flash so quickly, you usually get one or the other...nice camera work though...

We know what was in the trunk, I can't believe you showed Dave your custom made set of blue and red strobe light spinners for night time patrol:lmao:

What are they calling for this weekend in VA, I kinda hope it's overcast, around 70, looks like it's going to rain but doesn't, you know all the perfect conditions for doing all the scare zones:banana:

Fed - How's the ankle? I kind of expected to see you on crutches in those pictures.

At least the kitchen is mostly done. Backsplash needs to be tiled and a few little things. Nice to have a kitchen again. Never again. Some pics.

Before

After

No hidden Mickeys yet, maybe in the backslash.

That looks like a fantastic update to the kitchen. Well done!

Eating lunch trying to come up with how to pull off 2 WDW trips next year:confused3

So far I got
- 5 days worth of Park Hoppers for 2 adults
- In laws time share for whatever week we want
- by then a est. $300 -$400 on the Dis rewards card to put toward dinner

I'm looking into some Amtrak promos, if they do the Credit Card one again that gives you 30,000 pts, the van is 16,000 each way this would be like 1/2 price of the fare:banana:

:scratchin Also have several Gift Auctions coming up that I already have tickets for (if they don't have some sort of a prize for WDW, we will not even think about going:snooty:) the one's I got tickets for do indeed have WDW items:rolleyes1:goodvibes

If you have a Disney Rewards Visa and you have any large purchases/bills/tax liabilities, you could charge those to the card. When my DW went from being an employee to an independent contractor, we ended up with a... nontrivial tax bill due to some underestimation. Anyway, we ended up putting the taxes on the Disney Visa, and then paying it off within the same month. It provided some extra dollars on the rewards card. The more you can churn money through the card (and avoid interest charges if at all possible), the more Disney money you have. It sounds like you are already doing some business on the card if you're anticipating $400. The taxes thing was, I thought, a nice way to get that number up for us.

OK Dads - I get to make my ADR's on Monday and I need some advice/confirmation on my choices!

Saturday March 31st - Dinner at Il Mulino - thanks Aaron!
Sunday April 1 - EPCOT - Lunch at Le Cellier
Monday April 2 - DHS - Dinner at O'Hana
Tuesday April 3 - MK - Lunch at CRT
Wednesday April 4 - MK - Breakfast at Chef Mickey's
Thursday April 5 - AK/EPCOT Split Day - Dinner in EPCOT - Rose and Crown? I need suggestions on this one.
Friday April 6 - MK - Also need suggestions here - would be open to a resort dinner location but we're trying to stay close to MK since it's our last day.

What do ya'll think?

EPCOT has many good places; even the CS restaurants have a lot to offer. I like Chefs de France, Via Napoli, and Hacienda de San Angel for the TS restaurants.

For the last day, would you want to go out with a bang and hit one of the signature restaurants like California Grill or Citricos? Are you doing DDP?

so I've been mulling a couple of disney trip planning things around in my head and hoped maybe you guys have some answers. In case you want to skip the rambling explanation the questions are bolded.

For our Disneyland trip in Dec their don't really seem to be many specials. I know that DL does less than WDW in terms of offers but this year seems to be less than what has been offered historically. If we don't find a pretty decent special at DLR or GC we'll probably just use my hotel points/miles and stay of property for free. We don't want to book using the miles until we are sure that there won't be a special. How long would you wait to see if they release a special for DLR like the ones they have offered in recent years for this timeframe?

We are thinking about taking some family to WDW next year in either early December or September. Their kids will be 2.75 and 3.75 in September. September will probably have less crowds and could be less expensive but by December both kids will likely be potty trained. At that age even a couple months seem to make a big difference. Would you risk slightly greater crowds in exchange for potty trained kids?

Potty training, especially in the early days of it, is what you might call a probabilistic thing. Both my daughters have had some backsliding after they were "potty-trained" and ended up with around a week or two of frequent accidents. Before and after, though, the accidents were very infrequent, almost nonexistent. So, on a go-go-go, stand in line, full of excitement trip like WDW, even if they've been out of diapers for a while, the reassurance of diapers or pull-ups may not be such a bad thing.

That said, the day they are both out of diapers for good? Fabulous day. :thumbsup2

I had no idea that the gas stations in that area were so rife with corruption and soap-opera-like plots.

Also, Fed, I think I found your next fishing boat: Here

Yes, we are doing DDP. We'll be eating off of Dining plan on Saturday when we get there so we have an extra TS credit for our CRT lunch.

So, unfortunately, we won't have any extra TS credits for another signature dining experience.

I'm considering Via Napoli for our EPCOT dinner on Thursday. How does that work with DDP when it comes to ordering pizzas. I see they have different sizes. I'm assuming you would have to order the individual size?

Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that Via Napoli is on the DDP list for 2012 yet!

Fed - How's the ankle? I kind of expected to see you on crutches in those pictures.

Yeah, well you don't see the aircast....and I have the crutches, but I refuse to use them....I've been told I'm a bad patient:rotfl2:

It hurts though, I just kinda roll with it:)

That one was always suspicious. Gas was always 5-6 cents cheaper there, and that always grabbed a lot of traffic (plus it was really big with big C-store, food court, etc...) The guy was an absolute crook, and a crony of the Sheriff (at the time--he got "unelected";))

Yeah, that'll be my next fishing boat when I win the lottery:lmao:

I don't do business with the card, it's called The Wife:rolleyes1:scared1::lmao:

Welcome Jim! Nothing wrong with giving the kids a little nudge towards Disney. I told DS that he might as well plan on working there since we spent the 20 grand that was to go into his college fund on DVC.:woohoo:

Mark - I have a DOT related question. I realize this could be different based on geographic areas, but do you have an idea of the approximate cost difference per mile between hot mix asphalt and cold mix?

Our county hwy dept has been re-paving some roads the past few years. Some they're doing a very good job and paving with hot mix. Others they're putting cold mix down which has been making for a very nice, smooth road until the first tractor turns onto it. I mowed around a corn field yesterday with my lawnmower because they just repaved the road last month. I normally use a tractor and a batwing mower, but I know I'd tear the Beverly out of it mowing around telephone poles with that rig. We always try to be careful and let the stuff cure before we get anything heavy on them, although next summer once it heats up, I'm sure I'll do just as much damage as I'd have done right after they finished it.:headache:

Anyway, I was just thinking about that when I was mowing. I didn't know if it was more cost effective to "do it right" once or just do a decent job now and fix it again in a few years. It is obvious that they're currently employing both strategies though. Thought maybe a DOT engineer might have some insight on the matter.

:rotfl2::rotfl2:

:lmao::rotfl2:

I really just meant it as a legitimate question. I wouldn't even know who to ask locally, not that it is really that big of a deal. I'm not trying to pick on anybody or anything, I really am curious about it. It has been this way for years. Even though I kind of wonder about the quality of the asphalt used sometimes, I will say that they do a pretty good job. Our county doesn't have hardly any gravel roads at all. Just about everything is paved in some manner.

Scott, as far as suggestions for your April 5th Epcot day (if you haven't decided already) - my whole family also loves Teppon Edo (the youngers ones enjoy the show more than the food itself, which my wife and I enjoy, but still...). The kids also enjoyed Akerhaus (the food was par for the course for a Disney buffet (with a few good items thrown in there), but once again the kids enjoyed the atmosphere - it is a lot like CRT, but on a much smaller scale. Nicecy though, you still get the princess "meet and greets"). While it is not always the most popular choice, my wife and I usually enjoy Chefs de France (for a more romantic style dinner - which is always not easy with three kids sitting there staring up at us!). Of course, we also may be partial to it because we were stationed in Europe a few years back and eating there is very reminiscent for us for our trips to France. Coral Reef is also another tasty choice (pretty good food and a fun atmosphere for the kids (with the whole aquarium thing going). Hope this may have helped. Hope you get what you want.

Thanks you all for the kind welcomes. I really look forward to diving in and seeing what all is here. And hopefully I can possibly help some of you out occasionally with the randon tip here or there. As I stated earlier, we usually go to Disney once a year, but over the years we have learned quite a few "valuable" lessons (and tricks) to make the experience so much better for everyone (of course, its stall an ongoing learning process). Most of the time though, if I can't answer a question about "the World" my wife immediately brings it (although while signing up last night I have already informed her that this area is a "man only" zone!). But if a hard question arises, honestly I might occasionally throw a question or two her way. She really has gained an massive amount of knowledge on the subject. In fact, at our current base, she has become the unofficial Disney trip planner for the whole command. She has assisted numerous soldiers/sailors/marines and their families (almost everyone that goes) with finding the perfect place to stay, setting up their ADRs and given tips on making their trips more magical. well, I'll cut this off for now. A quick warning for the future about myself... If you haven't noticed already, once I get going (especially if its about Disney), I have a problem with going and going and going... Yes, I can occasionally be a little long winded now and then. But I'm hopeing to be able to add something to what already seems like a pretty solid group. Well hope you all have a great day.
