[RANT] Can someone explain to me what kind of stupidity test you need to pass to become an "administrative assistant"?! Does it involving removing part of your brain? Seems to be the only explanation I can think of to explain the level of performance. And why can't I fire anyone? Is everyone protected somehow? And when did "single mom" become a badge of honor? Aren't you just divorced? Why "single mom"? [/RANT]

Phew. Feel much better now.

We now have a thread for you... :thumbsup2 <---thumb

Thought I'd post a random photo this morning.

After I saw Stopher's post in the last thread of the golf course lawnmower, I thought I'd post one of a "lawnmower" that was a little bit bigger. :lmao:
I was out mowing the hillside by the house yesterday evening and stopped for a quick pic. The lake in the background, is actually where there should be some corn standing right now. The dark area going up towards the top of the pic was all under water as of this weekend, so it is at least receeding, but still nowhere near ready to plant. It was kind of depressing when I saw ducks swimming in the middle of the field while I was mowing. Usually my only close encounters with wildlife while I'm mowing by the woods is deer.

So what does that mean for your upcoming trip. It was dependent on harvesting week wasn't it?

Now we know the secret to getting your own sub-forum established:

Post 150 pages of mindless nothingness in a single day! :lmao:

But then again, having a heck of a good time doing it is an added bonus. That was fun. :thumbsup2
We’ll have to do it again some time (but not too soon if you please).

OK… I'm off to explore the new realm... Let’s see what kind of mischief I can get into now. :stir:
Have fun storming the castle.

This is my great fear. I'm most worried that they'll insist on re-engineering the code (I hear rumors that the Skype source code is rather a mess as it is) and force it into a MSFT framework like DOT.NET, which doesn't run well (if at all) on non-MSFT platforms.
Think back to the mid 90s and an episode of home improvement. Tim could be looking at and piece of complex equipment say a space shuttle. Tim's first response would be to think to himself those morons, if only they built it this way it would be so much more powerful. Cut to 2 hours later and Tim has the shuttle taken apart in his garage. Cut to 4 hours later and Tim has the shuttle back together it now only flies backwards there are a whole lot of spare parts and it tends to explode more frequently. That is how MSFT will work with Skype.

4. Given my professional experience as an ex MSFT-ie I'd wager money i-chat and AIM both just got more valuable. Microsoft will use this as an opportunity to re-engineer MSN Messenger and Skype and destroy them both in the process.

I totally agree. Skype is, by nature, a distributed platform. Microsoft excels in client-server implementations but open-network system? Not their forte'.

Conversely, I liked MSN Messenger a few years ago. They finally got it working well. Then they "Yahoo-ized it" and the good parts were firmly stomped out by the color-changing text and custom ram-sucking backgrounds and advertisements and stock quotes and, and, and...

I'm not looking forward to this at all.

As of now, we're still just going along with the plan. Obviously, the fact that there's water standing doesn't help matters, but there is some other ground that isn't under water that we could be planting in the next couple of days if we don't get any more rain. We had a 13" rain in 10 hours back in June 2008 and had to replant hundreds of acres around the 15th of June and we still finished harvest by Thanksgiving. It will just depend on the growing season and early fall weather to finish the crop off. By the time my 45 days rolls around, I should have a good idea of whether we'll have to move dates or not.

I guess I will introduce myself.

My daughter is 11 and her name is Ariel. Yes it was my choice.

My requirements off the list start at the bottom with #137.

Then I realized I would probably land on several branches of the qualification tree.

I do have a question: Why isn't "You name your first born after a Disney character" one of the top ten qualifications?

Anyway, Emma's Dad, if you would review my request and let the Newb hazing begin.

Hey guys - I know that some of you have seen these already but others might not have. I started a few threads last night to be able to hang out and discuss those specific topics - just as some of the rest of you have done.

DIS Dad's Meets

Disneyland for DIS Dads - this one is definitely a work in progress and will take time to get fully populated, but I hope that it can be a good resource for learning about and planning/pondering trips to Disneyland

Yep. That's exactly how I see this going. And it's sad, because Skype was one of those few examples of the first-to-market solution maintaining its lead because it just worked better than the alternatives. What I think may come of this is that MSFT may actually end up opening a door for Google here. Google Talk has an interesting feature set, in that it integrates with Google Voice and Gmail, and gives you a phone number that regular phones can call-in to without charging a fee. Google Talk's biggest shortcoming, IMHO, has been conferencing. But Google bought Gizmo5 a couple of years ago, which was an upstart competitor that I thought had the potential to give Skype a run for its money. Gizmo5 had excellent conferencing features (including built-in recording on all platforms). I wonder if this acquisition will be enough to push Google to incorporate those Gizmo5 features that have been missing from GTalk and make a hard run at Skype's market share. :confused3

After having powerpoint crash literally more than 30 times this am while working on three posters for next weeks meeting, I'm not optimistic about microsoft's ability to do anything. Almost threw my computer out the window. Thank goodness for the boards to give me something to do while it recovered my lost files...
