This is a great idea for a question. It's been fun reading all the responses.Lets call this the "come to my little neck of the woods" game.
What I would like to see is for Dads to put in a little post about what would be nice for someone to see or do while visiting your area.It can be anything from theme parks,to museums,Sporting events, could be something busy or even just a relxing trip to the beack or woods, could be anything anything!!!The thing here is to pretend I (or other Dads) is a tourist and you are a travel agent trying to get me to visit your area.Give some ideas of what there would be to do if I (we) came to visit your neighborhood.List places to stay, maybe places to eat etc.The reason I ask for this is I am looking for a road trip or two to do with the family this year, and would like to do something different.
Things to do in Raleigh /RTP:
-Minor league baseball. There are 2 teams locally the Carolina Mudcats and the Durham bulls. Cheap tix and a nice stadiums make for a fun evening = good time.
-Multiple Cracker Barrels
-Hockey Yeah I know it's the first thing you think about when you think NC

-Lots of college sports. Between NC State, UNC and that other school, there is a great college sports scene.
-Spend some time outdoors. There are lots of great parks. I am partial to mtn biking. There are trails for all skill levels and most of the bike shops rent bikes.
-Insult someone from Duke.
-If you're a foodie there are a lot of great restaurants. The chef at Angus barn was on Iron Chef America and won.
-Shopping Although the world is getting kind of homogenized in its shopping choices so I am not sure that is a differentiator.
-For kids we have marbles museum (its not a museum of marbles) and the museum of life sciences.
When family or out of town visitors come into town we usually head over to the coast. Depending on which beach you go to, you can get there in about 2 hours.
