Lets call this the "come to my little neck of the woods" game.:thumbsup2

What I would like to see is for Dads to put in a little post about what would be nice for someone to see or do while visiting your area.It can be anything from theme parks,to museums,Sporting events, could be something busy or even just a relxing trip to the beack or woods, could be anything anything!!!
The thing here is to pretend I (or other Dads) is a tourist and you are a travel agent trying to get me to visit your area.Give some ideas of what there would be to do if I (we) came to visit your neighborhood.List places to stay, maybe places to eat etc.
The reason I ask for this is I am looking for a road trip or two to do with the family this year, and would like to do something different.
This is a great idea for a question. It's been fun reading all the responses.

Things to do in Raleigh /RTP:
-Minor league baseball. There are 2 teams locally the Carolina Mudcats and the Durham bulls. Cheap tix and a nice stadiums make for a fun evening = good time.
-Multiple Cracker Barrels
-Hockey Yeah I know it's the first thing you think about when you think NC:lmao: If your in town for it catch a Canes game.
-Lots of college sports. Between NC State, UNC and that other school, there is a great college sports scene.
-Spend some time outdoors. There are lots of great parks. I am partial to mtn biking. There are trails for all skill levels and most of the bike shops rent bikes.
-Insult someone from Duke.
-If you're a foodie there are a lot of great restaurants. The chef at Angus barn was on Iron Chef America and won.
-Shopping Although the world is getting kind of homogenized in its shopping choices so I am not sure that is a differentiator.
-For kids we have marbles museum (its not a museum of marbles) and the museum of life sciences.

When family or out of town visitors come into town we usually head over to the coast. Depending on which beach you go to, you can get there in about 2 hours.

We also have an excellent interactive, living history museum in Fishers - Conner Prairie. They put on great Civil War Days in the spring, with an awesome battle re-enactment. Terrific Headless Horseman riders in the fall, old time baseball in summer, concerts on the prairie featuring the Indianapolis Symphony, and they have a balloon ride like at DTD. Actually, both DTD's and Conner Prairie are owned & operated by the same company.

:thumbsup2 Yes, very good catch. I can't believe I forgot to mention it.

While there is a lot of stuff to do in Miami (sporting events, food and the beach to name a few), I would rent a car and head to the Keys. The Upper Keys are about an hour away from the airport. Tons of things to do (snorkeling or diving, great locally owned restaurants, fresh seafood and a decent nightlife). You can also just kick your sandals off and sip fruity drinks with little umbrellas at the hotel's pool. If you feel ambitious you could trek down to see the wild scene that can be in Key West.

The keys are great. Feeding tarpon from a roadside dive is always lots of fun.

Hey I might be headed up to the farm on april 1,2,3 for opening of trout. If I go we will have to do Cracker Barrel!!!

Ton's of stuff to do here in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

- Lot's of shopping for the wives.

- Huge Theatre District - in fact Mary Poppins is coming in November

- Baseball: Toronto Blue Jays

- Hockey: Toronto Maple Leafs

- Basketball: Toronto Raptors

- CN Tower

- Canada's Wonderland (Amusement Park)

- Toronto Zoo

- Science Centre

- Hockey Hall of Fame (the only way we get to see the Stanley Cup :( )

- Our Beer - it has alcohol in it! :rotfl2:

It's like visiting the Canada pavilion at Epcot but without Cheddar Cheese Soup.

Oh and tourist discounts are available at http://www.citypass.com/toronto

If there's anything fun or interesting to do in Easton, PA, I sure don't know what it is! And I've lived here nearly 60 years! Actually, we have:
1) Larry Holmes
2) The Crayola Factory
3) National Canal Museum
4) The State Theater (home of great, live entertainment)
5) An Annual Garlic Festival (although I don't know why)
6) An Annual Shad Festival (nothing but an annoyance to me)
7) Flooding downtown whenever we get heavy rains
8) The future home of the National High School Sports Hall of Fame
9) We had a Pez Museum but I don't think it's there any longer so that probably doesn't count. Bummer!

I-78 does run right through Easton, so if you're ever in the area give me a call!

Sometimes we’ll get off on a tangent ....

Squirrel! What? Where?

If in Owensboro, absolutely nothing. We have the world famous Moonlite BBQ (that has served 2 presidents) and high school sports. If you are looking for a quiet town, here it is.

Louisville is 2 hours east of here.
Louisville Slugger Museum. Get mini-bats for your kids to hit each other with.
Riverbats baseball. It is minor league, but stadium is really nice.
Belle of Louisville steamboat.
Churchill Downs - take a track/ behind scenes tour.
Six Flags is closed right now due to money issues.
Brown Hotel and the original KY Hot Brown sandwich.

If you continue South on I-65 (going to WDW) near Bowling Green, you will find Mammoth Cave. It is an extensive underground cave system that is still not all the way explored. They have great tours and (weather permitting) underground water boat rides. It is really cool.

There's nothing to do in Connecticut either, but if you come up Tim and/or I will make sure you have fun

Here's a start of things to do:

1. Best pizza in the world in New Haven (either Sally's or Pepe's)
2. Lyme Rock Park for racing in the summer
3. Great hiking, fishing, boating, camping or skiing depending on the season
4. The ideal place to sight-see in the fall
5. My house for video games

9) We had a Pez Museum but I don't think it's there any longer so that probably doesn't count. Bummer!!

Hey, Pez is ours!

Made right here in Orange, CT. The town we were married in!

Insult someone from Duke.

I went to the Final Four last year. I was on cloud 9 just taking in all the sights and soaking up the ultimate basketball atmosphere. I really wanted to stay after the championship to watch all of the post game celebration and see One Shining Moment on the jumbotron... then Duke won.

:thumbsup2 Yes, very good catch. I can't believe I forgot to mention it.

Thanks. I only pass it every time I go to or from my office. We're members there, and enjoy going. We've had memberships to both the zoo and Children's Museum too. All very notable additions to the Central Indy area.

Well if you are ever in Detroit/Ann Arbor I would suggest the following:

1. Gotta get a Coney Dog. American Coney and Lafayette are the two most well known but they are both downtown. You will find Leo's and National everywhere.

2.If you like gambling head to one of the Casino's. We have the MGM Grand Detroit, Greektown Casino and Motor City Casino. If you want to head across the river into Canada you can hit Caesars Windsor as well.

3. Motown Museum. The original Motown Recording Studios.

http://www.motownmuseum.com/mtmpages/index.html

4. Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. Henruy Ford likes to collect pieces of history. They have a collection of semi famous buildings and artifacts. You can also take a tour of the Ford F-150 plant in Dearborn via this museum.

http://www.hfmgv.org/

5. Check out a Tigers game. Comerica park is very nice.

6. Detroit Institute of Arts. Really nice Art museum.

7. Head into Ann Arbor. Only about 40 minutes from Detroit. Awesome college town with a lot of great dining.

Ann Arbor has an awesome children's type museum - the Hands On Museum. Every summer the Art Fair takes over many streets of downtown, and is an great way to spend an afternoon or evening.

Plus the world's longest copper roof - located on a "ground level skyscraper" - the low level, one mile long Domino's Farms building. At it's tallest it is 4 levels high - but seriously stretches out to just under a mile (at like 0.98). Originally built in the prairie stylings of Frank Lloyd Wright as the World Headquarters for Domino's Pizza, on a former farm. The office building is surrounded by roaming bison & buffalo, cattle and other creatures. The original hundred year old farm house is still there (though moved to a different location), and Domino's Farms boasts a Petting Zoo with various farmyard critters.

I worked at Domino's Farms for 2 years at the end of the '90s. It was and still, is an amazing place.

This is Grumpy D.(aka Kirby) Our next trip is September 15 - 22, 2011
for our daughter's 13th birthday (she thinks it's for her birthday) my excuse to go down to WDW.
DVC Members for 4 years now best investment I ever made.

I would give you a list, but I live in NJ:scared1: 90% of the trips I take I go out of the state:yay: I spend more time at SP & BG than The Boardwalk (10mins away) or 6 Flags (20mins away). I don't know why people come to NJ for vacation:confused3

Give some ideas of what there would be to do if I (we) came to visit your neighborhood.List places to stay, maybe places to eat etc.

Come stay in the wonderful hills of South-East Ohio. The counties of Hocking, Athens, and Washington will provide you with all you need for a nice get-a-way! In this beautiful area of our state, you can find fun and relaxation for the whole family!

If you are in need of nature, check out the Hocking Hills area near Logan, Ohio. The Hocking Hills have hundreds of miles of trails that take you to some of the most photogenic caves and falls around. And after all that hiking, take a dip in the hot tub at your very own private cabin which kisses the edge of the woods.

Visiting during the summer? In Athens, you can check out the Ohio Brew Week Festival where home and micro brewers show off their wares. Brew, Music, and appearances from owners of companies like Dogfish Head and Samuel Adams have made it in the past. If you make your own beer, you can enter it a contest and see how it holds up against brewers across the nation!

Stop in at the Kennedy Museum of Art where you will find southwest Native American textiles and jewelry along with a contemporary print collection. Also make time for The Dairy Barn, where you can find some of the oldest and most amazing quilts ever made.

Have a belief in the afterlife? Like to give yourself a good scare? Just like to drink with more people than stopher has posts? Athens has you covered! Not only is Athens considered one of the most haunted areas in the country, but every year during Halloween weekend the Ohio University campus is taken over with thousands of costume clad people. Bands play on multiple stages while a good time is had by all.

Finally, discover the rich heritage through the museums and landmarks celebrating the first permanent organized settlement in the Northwest Territory in Marietta, Ohio. Enjoy handcrafted glass shops to "tubing" on the Ohio River. The River City Blues Festival is a great time for the music lovers!
