Lets call this the "come to my little neck of the woods" game.
What I would like to see is for Dads to put in a little post about what would be nice for someone to see or do while visiting your area.It can be anything from theme parks,to museums,Sporting events, could be something busy or even just a relxing trip to the beack or woods, could be anything anything!!!
The thing here is to pretend I (or other Dads) is a tourist and you are a travel agent trying to get me to visit your area.Give some ideas of what there would be to do if I (we) came to visit your neighborhood.List places to stay, maybe places to eat etc.
The reason I ask for this is I am looking for a road trip or two to do with the family this year, and would like to do something different.
I like this idea. If you're going to be in my neck of the woods (Greater Kansas City area) highlights include:
1. BBQ - The BEST BBQ in the world. Lots of great choices, including Arthur Bryant's, Jack's Stack, Gates & Sons, Rosedale, Oklahoma Joe's - when my brother visits from Chicago for a week, he eats at a different BBQ restaurant every night.
2. KC Royals Baseball - newly renovated stadium and day-of-game tix as cheap as $11 retail. With a bit of lead time, you can get good tix cheap.
3. Worlds of Fun - thrill-ride amusement park (now owned by the folks who own Cedar Point in Ohio).
4. Kansas City Zoo - the new Africa area is quite nice, as is the new polar bear habitat
5. Harry S Truman Presidential Library - a bit of a trek out in Independence, but well-done
6. Powell Gardens - nice botanical gardens, near the Truman library
7. Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead - laid back fun for the little ones. Petting zoo, playgrounds, etc. Out in the Soutwestern 'burbs (near me). Admission is free during the week and only $2/person on weekends.
8. Country Club Plaza - one of the first outdoor shopping mall districts in the United States. Fun shopping, great historical Spanish-influenced architecture, parks to run around in, lots of fountains, good restaurants.
9. T-Bones Northern League Baseball - Independent Minor League baseball. Fun atmospher. The best seats in the house are $16/each. Parking is free. And the only T-Rex restaurant outside of Downtown Walt Disney World is just up the street.
10. Newly-opened Schlitterbahn water park. (I haven't been yet, but it looks pretty cool)
