Would this be the area that is maybe just referred to by some as "the Plaza?" I went out to KC for training for a few weeks back in Oct 2005 and they put is in a hotel in the plaza. I don't think I ever heard it referred to as Country Club Plaza though. I know there were a lot of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel including an Italian place and a Cheesecake Factory that got visited more than once. I caught a game at Arrowhead too while I was out there... you need to add that to your list of local attractions. Great atmosphere for an NFL game.

Arrowhead is an awesome gameday experience - but it only exists on 8 days/year (and maybe less this year :( ). I figured the chances of someone making a summer trip out this way and the Royals being in town were more likely.

Depending on how far you're willing to wander, if you head another hour west, there's some great stuff to see/do in Lawrence, KS (home of the University of Kansas) as well. There's the legendary Phog Allen Field House, which now has a really cool Hall of Fame in it. A nice little Museum of Anthropology, a beautiful campus on the hill, and a quaint downtown with some really good restaurants.

WOOOO HOOOOO Bristol!!!!! I will be there for both races (Nationwide and Sprint Cup)!!! Love that race!

Hope we can have a meet up Kevin. :thumbsup2

I won't be at the race...but I'm not to far away.

Lets call this the "come to my little neck of the woods" game.:thumbsup2

What I would like to see is for Dads to put in a little post about what would be nice for someone to see or do while visiting your area.It can be anything from theme parks,to museums,Sporting events, could be something busy or even just a relxing trip to the beack or woods, could be anything anything!!!
The thing here is to pretend I (or other Dads) is a tourist and you are a travel agent trying to get me to visit your area.Give some ideas of what there would be to do if I (we) came to visit your neighborhood.List places to stay, maybe places to eat etc.
The reason I ask for this is I am looking for a road trip or two to do with the family this year, and would like to do something different.

Well if you are ever in Detroit/Ann Arbor I would suggest the following:

1. Gotta get a Coney Dog. American Coney and Lafayette are the two most well known but they are both downtown. You will find Leo's and National everywhere.

2.If you like gambling head to one of the Casino's. We have the MGM Grand Detroit, Greektown Casino and Motor City Casino. If you want to head across the river into Canada you can hit Caesars Windsor as well.

3. Motown Museum. The original Motown Recording Studios.

http://www.motownmuseum.com/mtmpages/index.html

4. Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. Henruy Ford likes to collect pieces of history. They have a collection of semi famous buildings and artifacts. You can also take a tour of the Ford F-150 plant in Dearborn via this museum.

http://www.hfmgv.org/

5. Check out a Tigers game. Comerica park is very nice.

6. Detroit Institute of Arts. Really nice Art museum.

7. Head into Ann Arbor. Only about 40 minutes from Detroit. Awesome college town with a lot of great dining.

Well, here in Indianapolis we have the World Famous Children's Museum, The Indianapolis Motor Speedway, The NCAA Museum and The Mayberry Cafe in Danville complete with actual Andy Griffith's Sheriff car!!

I'm sorry, I didn't prepare a great speech or anything for this occasion, but I just realized this is my 1000th post!!! :woohoo::banana::cool1::yay::dance3::cheer2::woohoo::banana::cool1::yay::dance3::cheer2:

Stopher really stole any thunder I had for this post over the weekend though. That's alright though, he's earned it.:thumbsup2

I just want to say thank you to everyone who has allowed me to be a part of this club and put up with my mindless drivel for the past 1,000 posts. I'm proud to be a part of this fine group of Dads and I look forward to some fun conversations that I'm sure will take place on down the road!

Congrats :cool1:

Anybody have any good jokes?? I'm always looking for laugh and heard a funny one today::rolleyes1

Two buddies, Troy and Jim, are getting very drunk at a bar when
suddenly Jim throws up all over himself. "Oh, no; now Jeanette
will kill me!" Troy says, "Don't worry, pal. Just tuck a twenty
in your breast pocket, tell Jeanette that someone threw up on
you and gave you twenty dollars for the dry cleaning bill."

So they stay for another couple of hours and get even drunker.
Eventually Jim rolls into home and Jeanette starts to give him a
bad time. "You reek of alcohol and you've puked all over yourself!
My God, you're disgusting!" Speaking very carefully so as not to
slur, Jim says, "Nowainaminit, I can e'splain everythin! Itsh snot
wha jew think. I only had a cupla drrrinks. But thiss other guy
got ssick on me... he had one too many and he juss couldin hold
hizz liquor. He said he was verrry sorry an' gave me twennie bucks
for the cleaning bill!" Jeanette looks in the breast pocket and
says, "But this is forty bucks." "Oh, yeah...I almos' fergot, he
crapped in my pants, too."

Yes, the Children's Museum is a must see if you're coming through Indy with kids.

Indy is a great town for sports fans... IMS Hall of Fame and track, NCAA HQ and HOF, Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium, any basketball game in Conseco Fieldhouse, and if you're a basketball fan who enjoyed the movie Hoosiers you have to stop by Butler University to see Hinkle Fieldhouse.

The Indianapolis Zoo is also very nice as is that whole side of town with the Eiteljorg Museum and Vicorty Field, home of the Indianapolis Indians. It is a very nice AAA field.

I've never actually been inside the Mayberry Cafe, although I've driven past it a few times.

Well… My neck of the woods is York County, SC, which is considered part of the Greater Charlotte Metro Area (as it is right on the boarder). The things that I’d recommend are different from the choices of the Chamber of Commerce, but I’ll give both equal time.

I say you need to see:

- Kings Mountain National Battlefield (A rare US Revolutionary war victory in the south)

- U.S. National Whitewater Center (a US Olympic training facility that is also open to the public)

- Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden (absolutely gorgeous)

- Lansford Canal State Park (and while your there you can kayak on the Catawaba River

- The Levine Museum of the New South (Focusing on post-Civil War Southern history)

- NC Transportation Museum (actually up the road a bit in Spencer NC, but absolutely worth the drive if you’re fascinated by trains)

- The Museum of York County (believe it or not, it has one of the largest collections of mounted African land animals in the US)

And you need to grab a bite at any of the following dives:
- Price’s Chicken Coop
-The Penguin Drive-In
-Bar-BQ King Drive-In

The Chamber of Commerce also wishes for me to point out that you can see:

- Charlotte Motor Speedway and/or The NASCAR Hall of Fame

- Carowinds (an amusement park that straddles the NC/SC Boarder and is currently owned by Cedar Fair)

- The NFL Panthers, NBA Bobcats and the minor-league Knights (a White Sox Franchise)

Well, since you're already thinking about heading up to my neck of the woods, I might as well offer a few more things that Southeast Wisconsin has to offer. Racine is nice, but I'll send you 30 minutes to the North to Milwaukee
  • This is Wisconsin, and more specifically Milwaukee, so I should probably start out with the beer. Miller has a brewery tour, but I've never done it. I've heard there is sampling, but it sounds like a fairly stuffy, corporate experience. Lakefront Brewery offers a tour which is a lot of fun. The tour guides really get into it, even leading the group on a rendition of "Making Our Dreams Come True" from Laverne and Shirley (they make a point to tell you that singing is not optional). If you take a Friday evening tour, head upstairs to their Palm Garden Restaurant for one of the best Fish Fries in town. And for you nondrinkers - they make a Golden Maple Root Beer with local maple syrup. It's delicious:thumbsup2
  • The Harley Davidson Museum. Harley just opened a corporate museum near downtown a few years ago. I've been by it a few times, but haven't had a chance to go through it yet. It's magnificent from the outside, and from all of the reviews that I've read it's just a nice inside. Company history, lots and lots of historical bikes, etc
  • Summerfest and the festival grounds. Summerfest bills itself as the World's largest music festival. It's the end of June through the first part of July every year, with 12 stages of every genre of music you can think of, and all of the other associated festival accompaniments (FOOD! LOTS AND LOTS OF FOOD!) If you can't make it for Summerfest, there are smaller festivals going on almost every weekend at the Festival grounds (Irishfest, Germanfest, Festa Italiana...)
  • Art Museum and the Lakefront. Milwaukee has a very nice Art Museum situated right along the lakefront. Even if you don't want to go inside, just seeing the building from the outside is quite a sight. Right next door is Veterans Park - a 103 acre park on the lake shore. They offer Segway tours of the park and surrounding area which are a lot of fun.
  • Mitchell Park Conservatory ("The Domes") Three towering domes full of plants & flowers - the Tropical Dome and a Desert Dome are year round exhibits, while the Floral Show Dome changes theme every few months. It currently has a Thomas the Tank Engine display with hundreds of feet of track winding in and out of scenes from children's fairy tails
  • Milwaukee County Zoo. They've spent Millions of dollars in the last few years on new exhibits and habitats to really make this a top notch zoo. My kids love the Safari Train - a miniature train that makes a loop around the zoo, pulled by a miniature steam engine.
  • Miller Park / Brewers games. Tailgating! Brats! Hot Dogs! Burgers! Beverages! Oh, yeah, and they play a baseball game there too sometimes.
  • If you want to take the extra 2 hour drive up to Green Bay, Lambeau Field is open year round with stadium tours, the Packer Hall of Fame, restaurants and the Pro Shop. The stadium and new atrium are so nice that people actually rent it out for wedding receptions. You can even see the Vince Lombardi Trophy from Super Bowl XLV!:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

I’ve been on the boards since 2007 and I still don’t have 1,000 posts yet (of course, I’ve only been in the DDC for about ten months, so now I may just catch up :lmao:)

While there is a lot of stuff to do in Miami (sporting events, food and the beach to name a few), I would rent a car and head to the Keys. The Upper Keys are about an hour away from the airport. Tons of things to do (snorkeling or diving, great locally owned restaurants, fresh seafood and a decent nightlife). You can also just kick your sandals off and sip fruity drinks with little umbrellas at the hotel's pool. If you feel ambitious you could trek down to see the wild scene that can be in Key West.

We also have an excellent interactive, living history museum in Fishers - Conner Prairie. They put on great Civil War Days in the spring, with an awesome battle re-enactment. Terrific Headless Horseman riders in the fall, old time baseball in summer, concerts on the prairie featuring the Indianapolis Symphony, and they have a balloon ride like at DTD. Actually, both DTD's and Conner Prairie are owned & operated by the same company.

P.s I would not be getting out there for the baseball weekend until Sept 9th 10 11th series so If this goes down it may be a solo trip (with friends) as kids will be back in school
