Good News! I won the lottery!

Well, the vacation lottery at work, anyway. We now have official dates for our Summer road trip to Disney. We'll be leaving Wisconsin probably in the afternoon of June 24th, and not heading home until July 9th.
I already made ADRs, just in case I got the week of Independence Day off, so we plan to have O'hana dinner that night, then hang around and watch the 4th of July fireworks from the Poly beach. :thumbsup2

Very Cool. We're actually heading the opposite direction at the same time. We're doing a trip up to Canada to see my family in Edmonton, but we are going via Mt. Rushmore & Yellowstone. Planning for a 4000+ round trip. :thumbsup2

Fed - I need to ask a favor. You think I can get a GSP escort from Atlanta to the state line? That's some reeeeealy boring territory and if we can zip through there at about 120, it would really help.:thumbsup2
(And yes, my minivan will do 120. I'm pretty sure, anyway.:confused3)

Yeah... like you don't know. You already said you've driven through Georgia a few times before.

Yeah, I don't see that happening:confused3:lmao:

Matter of fact, as you know...couple of areas on 75 you REALLY REALLY want to watch your speed on...
(Macon, Perry, Tifton, Valdosta....etc. etc..:cool2:)

120??? In a minivan?? **Cough**WHATEVER**Cough**

Hey, I recall someone mentioning the "preference" of certain law enforcement groups to "ignore" the minivan in favor of a coupe, so long as the speed was below 85.

Just for Freezin...

Yeah, keep these guys south, I'm heading north across the plains. (nowhere to hide those bad boys.)

You should see these in Canada. I can get a higher score there. :rotfl2:

So I've been lurking on this and some of the other disdads threads. While this seemed like a place I should sign up, I wasn't sure that I needed to find another timesuck on the disboards. I finally decided that it was time to man up this afternoon, but then work got in the way. so it had to wait till tonight. So gentlemen, I'd like to become one of you.
...
Ohhh, DW is cancer free now and she speaks to young woman about what to expect if they get diagnosed with cancer. She's pretty awesome cause the cancer card would pretty much trump anything I could use in an arguement but she never uses it.

:welcome::welcome:
Welcome to the asylum. The inmates are in charge, I think... (Captain O, are we in charge?)
Also, great news about you DW being cancer free. Takes a strong person to fight through that. :thumbsup2

Yes. Yes we are. Two kids, two dogs, 1200 miles. We've done it twice already. :thumbsup2

If you do get over that way, definitely let me know. I'm sure we can arrange a meetup!

Welcome to the Club!:woohoo:

My mustang has a governor that cuts it at 113 (so says motortrend), and after getting busted going 82 in a 60, I'm saying your van isn't going 120...

It’s a swimming test…
You’ve already passed it…
I’ve seen the pictures.
:rotfl2:

THIS made me laugh... :lmao::lmao:

Pictures can be uploaded over at disdads.com as well. Just sayin' . . .
This is a GREAT idea, AJRitz! A disdad's hall of fame photo gallery? With Fed at the boat launch, The DIS Minivan, Jasmine & Buzz Lightyear, the dads and the snow and the lawn chairs, and... you know, post that Jasmine one again... :rolleyes1 popcorn::

Here's a little bit about me. (Man I hope I'm posting this in the right place, but hey if not I'll be heartily mocked and feel right at home)

I live in scenic Raleigh, NC am married and have two mostly great kids. DS is 8 and DD is 5. I run product strategy for a small software company and travel ALOT. I have an insane number of FF miles and yet we still drive to Disney, because I hate waiting for the buses and I'm too cheap for a rental car.

First trip as a family to WDW was about 4 years ago and we stayed off property with a single day at MK. As we rode the monorail from the TTC I remember watching the people getting on the monorail at the Poly and thinking how awesome it would be to stay on property but that I could never spend the money to do that. Skip to 2 years later and wife is diagnosed with pretty advanced breast cancer. The diagnosis flipped our world upside down (and it worked out being a good thing , just like it did for Will Smith). It made us realize we were saving to do things in the future and there is no guarantee how long your going to have. We decided the first thing we were going to do when she was cancer free was take the kids to Disney for a week. During treatment we planned the trip with military precision investing many weeks planning everything. The only point of contention was where to stay. DW wanted Beach club and I wanted a moderate, cause cancer or no cancer, I'm still cheap. We eventually compromised and stayed at Beach Club. After all, this was a once in a lifetime trip, I wouldn't have to pay this much again. Skip ahead to 8 months later and we were staying at the Wilderness Lodge for a week. Doh!
This January DW and I went to WDW for 4 days with some friends for Marathon weekend. (there is nothing like the look on your child's face when you tell them you're going to Disney World......without them.) The trip was awesome and we are already planning next years marathon weekend. I am planning on doing goofy next year, because hey its a goofy t-shirt and 3 medals. In order to make it up to the kids we are taking them on the Dream on the 24th of this month. They don't know it yet but we are going to the parks for a couple of days too.

Ohhh, DW is cancer free now and she speaks to young woman about what to expect if they get diagnosed with cancer. She's pretty awesome cause the cancer card would pretty much trump anything I could use in an arguement but she never uses it.

Glad to hear she beat her cancer...

:woohoo:

No better place to celebrate then at WDW.

I am now saddened and humiliated by my lack of posting.

I need to stop slacking off on my slacking off.

Wooohoo! I 've been welcomed already. Thanks all.

My photoshop skills are week, but I want to contribute to the speeding theme.

What's the greatest speed delta you've ever had when being pulled that you've been able to talk your way out of. For me it was 75 in a 45.

Well I didn't get out of it completly, but I got nailed doing 138 in a 35 when I was 19:scared1: The Chief was friends with my dad (who was the Head Sgt in another Dept) after giving my dad a wise answer to his ? of why I was going so fast, my answer was, because I could, I got a reduced 2pt $60 fine ticket:eek:

The lesson I learned was never wise off to a cop, even if it's your dad, Your NOT going to win:scared1:

Filling out paperwork now, We are sending my son to a private school, besides the reg. school tax we pay it will be a extra $4500+ per year for K-8, HS is around 10k right know:scared1:

This is the same schools I went too, back in the day it was around $600 for K-8, and 2k for HS:confused3

Guess I finally need to catch up on your old trip reports!

For Fed:

demotivational-posters-new-high-score.jpg

Did anyone else catch the three Back to the Future references? 88mph, Doc B, and the burning tire tracks. I love it! Back to the Future was one of my favorite movies when I was a teenager.

Checkin' back in... been busy at work.

Looks like y'all have been busy too! I like the new thread. I just got a chance to listen to the DisDads podcast. GREAT JOB AJRitz and Co.!

Starting to make final preparations for WDW and getting excited!
:cool1:

You guys are great I don't look for two days and not only do you post 20+ pages tv 2days you go and move on me.
Nice place though, who ordered the new chairs?:confused3
Our trip is just around the bend, time to gear up. Everyone was sick last week so obviously I am sick this week.
Don't worry I won't cough on the new walls.:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Ahem.
Need I remind you of this important MANLAW:
"No one in any family of a Dis Dad is allowed to get the sniffles, laryngitis (me on my last trip), aches, pains, general feeling of anything abnormal within 10 days of, or during any scheduled vacation. You can be sick on your own time, Disney time is to be accident and illness free!"

Oh you're too funny! Welcome!

The 10,000th will be a couple of days away, minimum... now that the mad dash is over, I can take a little bit of time to savor this last foray in the 4digit club.

Mad dash is OVER?!? Seems to still be going... :surfweb:

120 in a Minivan would be sweet. I've always wanted a Toyota to make a TRD Sienna or Honda to make a Type R Odyssey.

I got my Saab 900 SET convertible up to 125 - with the top down - on I-35 on the way to Wichita. I backed it off when I noticed there were tumbleweeds by the side of the highway. I didn't like the thought of what would happen if one of those tumbleweeds hit my turbocharged engine's cold air intake at 125 mph. :scared1:

Speaking on the going way faster than I should.

Let me first say I have a lead foot that is now supported by baloons so that I dont go as fast as I use to (I think being a dad has made my foot much lighter).
I was around 18, my mom had Lukemia and I had a thunderbird that was slowly falling apart. My mom had to ride an hour in my car with no AC in Arkansas Summer around 110 degrees. The only way I could keep her cool was windows down and fly like a bat out of hell. I got pulled over going 90 in a 35(maybe people wouldnt speed if there were no 35mph speed limits). I looked at the officer and told him I had to get her home into the AC and he could give me a ticket there, he told me that she shouldnt ride in my car with no AC and let me go.

After that long drawn out story, I have a question for everyone. When planning your trips, do your wifes plan with you or do they just get tired of you talking about it(like mine)?

I'm definitely the planner, and my wife appreciates it. She loves that she knows I'm going to be obsessively prepared, and she doesn't have to worry about anything until it's time to pack (I'm lousy at packing. She's much better and more organized than I am when it comes to packing).

The hard part for me is that, while DW loved our trip, she's reluctant to agree to return. She would prefer that we consider other destinations, and the travel costs from the middle of the country make it a little harder. So far, the best I've been able to do is sell her on a return trip in January 2013 (but every once in a while, I do go ahead and run numbers and rough out plans for a trip sooner).

My wife planned our 1st trip, after that I told her , Your Fired:lmao: Since she is the boss:lmao: I let her give me her input, but I'm incharge of planning the whole trip, she says every year gets better and she wouldn't have been able to pull off what I planned:woohoo:

AJ - I got to say, I only listened to a few mins of the podcast so far (I'll listen to the whole thing on my day off) you got a great voice for it, I see Carl was on the panel, when SP opens and I'm by his house all the time, maybe I can pop by when a podcast is going on and actually be on the show:goodvibes, Of course if it's OK with Carl:confused3
