I agree that the Half-time show was just bad. Even worse was the singing of the National Anthem. This is probably the most watched and heard singing of the National Anthem each year. If she wouldn't have been so focused on adding her own "flair" she might have been able to remember the words. Why can't these singers JUST SING THE SONG! :headache: It's important to some of us!

Thank you, Mike! My thoughts exactly! For an event of this magnitude, a military chorus should sing the anthem. Or, at least someone a lot more qualified than these so-called pop stars of today. This isn't an American Idol audition (I'm happy to say I don't watch that). If they can't get anyone better than this, they should play a pre-recorded version by Robert Merrill. I won't apologize for saying the national anthem and half time show were both an embarrassment to our great nation. I hope the people that run events like this get their acts together soon or I won't be watching them anymore.

That was the most terrible thing I have ever seen! But it did motivate my dd16! She wants me to help her make shoes with pink LED 's. Going to be a fun project for us.. Daddy daughter bonding!

I'm going to need to see pictures of those shoes when you're done. :worship:

I paused the the game (thank you DVR!) at the end of the first half to get the kids tucked into bed. When I got back, I fast forwarded a through it, but stopped when I saw Slash. Then I heard about 3 lines of that girl's rendition of "Sweet Child o Mine" and proceeded to fast forward again until the 2nd half kick off. :scared1:

Speaking of anthems, did anyone catch the National Anthems that Jim Cornelison did at the Bears' home playoff games? (If not, check it out here:http://blogs.suntimes.com/bears/2011/01/jim_cornelison_to_sign_nationa.html) He does a great rendition, but I wanted to get people's opinion on the crowd response. In case you're not aware, he's an opera singer and full time anthem singer for the Chicago Blackhawks. Rather than stand at quiet attention during the song, the tradition is to stand, whoop, holler, yell and cheer during his anthems. I've read opinions both ways on this - some like it, others think it's disrespectful. What do you guys think?

I love his rendition of the anthem. I am a veteran and while i was brought up and trained to stand silently while it is played i feel that as long as people are cheering the singer and our nation in general i don't have too much of a problem with it. I think people get hung up on tradition and don't look any deeper into what people are doing some times. The thing is, that's their tradition there.

On the shoes subject. I will try to make it a "how to" post! Now I'm scared:eek:

On the Anthem subject. I think some of these celebrities want to make a joke about it. Singing as loud and obnoxious as possible. I think they should have a school competition. Pick the best, and have them sing it with pride an honor!. I don't think it should be some annoying of the times maniac that tries to scream it the most outragiousley!

Stand and cheer for our country! Anyone wonder what it would be like being born anywhere else?:confused3

Hi all! I'm slowly getting out of my funk and starting to get back into the swing of things. I'm really glad I have a place I can come to and feel comfortable venting. Been a rough couple of weeks and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel finally. I can see most of the guys here have been battling the white stuff... and fortunately THAT is one thing I haven't had to worry about. All in all though I realized that my stuff I have going on is so little compared to some others. Funny how God uses circumstances to open one's eyes to what's important in life.
So... to help get myself out of the "funk", I went and did something I never thought I'd do. No... it's nothing dramatic... BUT... I must admit I got caught up in an infomercial. I had heard quite a few times about the product before, but for some reason it finally got my attention. I'm tired of being tired and not being able to keep up with my 8 year old. So.... I went and bought the P90X extreme home workout program. Started it yesterday... and MAN is it going to kick my butt! I was only able to complete 30 minutes of the first hour workout. But I can see how this is going to get me back in shape. now I'm not a very overweight guy... but I'm at around 200-205 and my target weight is supposed to be around 180-185. Guess we'll see what happens after 90 days... which, is about the time I'll be in WDW :cool1:
Speaking of 90 days out... that means I'm going to be stepping into high gear with my TR. The pirates and crickets beware pirate: :badpc:

Any of you guys know If coral ref....can seat ten ppl at a table...thank you
We were at Coral Reef on New Year's Eve. We had a nice big table in the back, and were able to put 9 of us around it, while the 2 babies slept on the bench seats. The food was good, but the experience made it. I would say you could fit 10 at a big table in the back.:thumbsup2

Heh heh.
I've been kinda bummed about the fact that Mrs. AJRitz has seemed pretty resistant to doing another Disney trip for at least another 2-3 years.

I got home today and caught her checking out a travel deal site's Disney offer (it was a nice offer - 45% off at the Grand Floridian). :thumbsup2

:scratchin Maybe I'm making some progress . . .
I clicked on the 7 day, 6 night eat, stay, play for $89 per person per day. I sent the DW the total, and she said, "Well, if you REALLY want to go..." :scared1:
I've been saying 2012, so we'll stay home (or hit Chi-town or Kansas City for a weekend) in 2011, and PLAN our 2012. DW then said, "What about Polynesian next time?" :thumbsup2

I like his version.... pretty much straight forward. I'm not sure how I feel about the cheering through the whole song though. I was always taught to take off my hat and remain silent out of respect or sing along. :confused3

On another note, looks like I could possible be the only one on this thread that didn't think the half-time show was that bad. Please don't hold that against me. :lmao:

I wish we could convince my wife and kids to stay at the Value resorts! I keep saying that is where all the teens go. They say Poly. I say we can get 4 rooms at the value resort. They say Poly. I say we can go 2 times a year for the same price as the one trip to the Poly. They say Poly.
Watch out, you stay at the Poly you will not get them to stay anywhere else.:rotfl2: we feel the pressure of sticker shock every time we plan a trip.

ESPN showed Aston Villa against Sunderland on Saturday (maybe tuesday), and the DW and I were both like, "Who?"

LIVERPOOL! (you know, everyone has to pick a team, and i won't cheer for Man U or Chelsea. Anyone can buy a championship.)

If the NFL added 2 extra games to the schedule, the Super Bowl could be pushed to the Sunday before President's day. Then, the majority of the U.S. WOULD be off... just saying.
Or, start the season 2 weeks later and achieve the same effect.

Sunday after church, one of the other moms started talking to me. She said "so, i hear you like disneyworld. is that true? We were thinking of taking our 7 and 5 year olds this Summer. Should we go?"
and, thus, the commercial for how amazing Disneyworld is began...

I love being able to go to church and bear my testimony of God , then bear my testimony of WDW too!!!

That was one of the games I was actually able to catch the opening of and he did an amazing job.

As for the cheering, I kind of like the way they usually do it at hockey games; everyone stands in silence for the anthem and start cheering during the last line. I think it gives the respect to the person singing and kind of builds up the excitement more because you want to start screaming but know you have to wait.

We stayed top-shelf for our first trip - Poly Concierge Level.
Unless I hit the lottery, that's not happenening again. :scared1: It was wonderful, but just not in the realm of financial possibility for us under normal circumstances. (That first trip was largely paid for by a small inheritance from my grandmother).

It looks like our next trip might actually be an off-property stay. My BiL has a timeshare contract that he's been accumulating points on and hasn't had a chance to use in a while. He's offered to let us use his points. We just need to get some more details about the timeshare program so we can find out about Disney-area properties where they can be used.

Living in Chicago I absolutely love the cheering and support shown during the anthem when sung at the Blackhawks game. I still remember the first game I went to at the United Center. I was blown away with the emotion of all the people cheering for the national anthem.

I must also give props to my former hometown of Edmonton. I'm not sure how many hockey fans remember this, but a few years ago during the playoffs Edmonton was playing Anaheim (i think) and at the US venue, the Canadian anthem was booed. When the games returned to Edmonton the fans showed the best side of Canada by not only singing both anthems, but singing so loudly that the performer stopped and just watched in awe of the fans singing. A truly moving moment. I wish more events showcased this type of national pride where the performer LEADS the fans in singing and not use it as a platform to make it their own version.

I was taught the same thing, and my kids are also. Sunday evening, at our neighbors house, my kids stopped playing with the other kids and stood in front of the tv for the duration of the song. It was a very proud moment for me. My daughter even yelled at the one guy for not taking his hat off for the national anthem.

I also didnt think the halftime show was horrible. I know from doing some mixing, it could have been better. I liked the energy they had, but production wise it was lacking.

BTW, I booked our anniversary trip today. We are staying Port Orleans-FQ. Got three meal planned so far. We are doing Ohana, Coral Reef and Cape May Cafe all for dinners. We have decided to skip on character meals, because we wont have the kids along this time. Can anyone suggest a good breakfast without Characters? Also, any dads going to there 5/23-5/27? I will be happy to do some meets again!

Nice VD present! :thumbsup2

I've been obsessing crazily about when I'm going to be able to pull off our next trip. I'd rather it be sooner than later, but am also trying to stay realistic. So I laid out the big stuff we've got coming up over the next few years (the biggest will be The Bug's Bat Mitzvah in late 2015). Looking at my list, I think the target date will be Winter 2013. At that point, most of the Fantasyland Expansion should be done, it gives me two years to save for the trip and then two years post-trip to save for the Bat Mitzvah. Here are some things that I'm wondering:

1) We're extremely likely to use my Brother-in-Law's timeshare for this trip. That would preclude us from most Disney "deals." I'm wondering whether it might be worthwhile to just buy tickets sometime this summer, before the next price increase, with the no-expiration option? With our trip a full two years out, I'm thinking the savings could be pretty significant, if it means we avoid (at least) two rounds of increases.
2) The "window" for this trip is December-February 2013. I'd actually prefer to avoid the Holiday decorations/Christmas stuff to the extent possible. And after this Winter especially, I'd love to escape the coldest part of Winter (which around here is generally January-February). Anyone have comments about crowds, atmosphere, weather at WDW in January and February.
3) Our last trip was a complete surprise to the kids, and that worked well. They loved the surprise (The Bug especially), and it kept us from having to hear the, "is it time to go to Walt Disney World yet?" every day for a year. But The Bug would be 10-years-old for this trip (Squeaker would be 6). Should we keep this one a surprise too, or tell them so that they can be involved in planning (normally, planning is my job)?

Very nice! :thumbsup2

We eat at Kona for breakfast every trip. It is a tradition. We love it there and the prices are reasonable.

Here is the menu.

CRUD

Checking in for the first time since Friday... a lot to catch up on. I was in my brother in law's wedding Saturday and we stayed around to help undecorate after the reception making it a late night. We got up Sunday and went to church and I was exhausted... thought it was just from the late night. We went to eat lunch at a local pizza place and I had no appetite... I usally eat half a pizza there. Well, by the time I got home I figured out why I didn't have any appetite... I had the stomach flu. Sunday was a brutal day, needless to say I didn't get to eat good food and drink beer while watching the Super Bowl. In fact, I slept through the 1st and 3rd quarters of the game. I've been off work the past 2 days, but feeling better now. Hopefully I'll get back to work tomorrow. I'm about to go crazy sitting around the house at this point.

So.... I went and bought the P90X extreme home workout program. Started it yesterday... and MAN is it going to kick my butt! I was only able to complete 30 minutes of the first hour workout. I started it back in January. I had to drop some of the lower body exercises for a few weeks due to a knee injury from playing basketball (and of course I haven't worked out at all the last few days) but I actually enjoy it. I'm not sure it should start with the chest & back workout... I see how it can be discouraging at first. It does get a little stale hearing the same dialog after the first time or 2 though. I take it that you probably didn't make it to ab ripper X on day one???? I absolutely HATE that one. I'm glad it is only 15 min. I personally feel like that is about 13 min too long. Good luck!
