Okay Dads... sorry to invade your man space, but I need advice! I am trying to plan a meal at Disney to surprise my husband for father's day! Any suggestions? TIA

What kind of food does he like. Right now I'm thinking Yachtsman or LeCeller:cool1:

Humm… Must agree. Kind’a depends on his likes and dislikes,
But… Those two are excellent choices

Now having said that, the best table service experience I’ve had at WDW was not where I was expecting it to be. During our Christmas trip down to The World we booked a table at the Rose and Crown in EPCOT. The Irish CM working our table recommended the special of the day: Roasted Filet with Root Vegetables. Absolutely Fabulous! That and a good English Ale and your all set. Book the table late enough in the evening (and get lucky enough to be seated on the porch) and you also have some of the best seats in the entire Showcase for watching “Illuminations“. :thumbsup2

I always love Ohana. Then there is Biergarten in Germany at epcot. These are the two my wife would pick for me but then again I love both of these places.

My vote would be for Le Cellier or Biergarten. Two of my favorites!

I went and looked it up on the current menu and the description differs a little from my memory. Here’s how they write it up:

“Filet of Beef - topped with English Stilton with Irish Potato Gratin, seasonal vegetables, and Shallot Gravy”

The “Filet”, was Filet Mignon, slow roasted to a perfect med-rare and the “taters-n-vegies” mixed with the melted Stilton was just heavenly. I was completely stunned and was not expecting anything near that good.

I was considering trying to do the Rose and Crown... that filet sounds wonderful and sounds like something he would really enjoy as opposed to a restaurant where our kids probably wouldn't touch anything on the menu! ;) Thanks guys! I appreciate the input!! What time would you make a reservation to try to view illuminations?

It looks like Illuminations is scheduled to kick off at 9:00 most night during June of 2011. If you can get the ADR between 8:30 and 8:45 you’ll be in good shape. I can’t guarantee that they will seat you on the porch, but you can ask at the desk. You probably also better book it as early as you're allowed because, other folks will snap that time slot up very quickly.

I'm with Carl! Ohana's would be my pick!

I am with Chris and Carl...Ohana's for me!

Humm…. We did ‘Ohana this time (expecting very great things) but were slightly disappointed. Maybe things were just a bit off that evening. For us, the pork & beef were both rather over done and the grill master stubbed his toe on the “5-Spice” because it drowned out most every other flavor. Considering the number of endorsements (and from folks I pretty much trust) we may need to try that one again.

I think your right, I was wondering where AJ is hope his Dad is OK:goodvibes

By the way how did you like LeCellar:confused3
Le Cellier was *almost* everything I hoped for. The Cheddar soup and chocolate Mousse were both great. (hence why i am planning to write a real TR), but the steak wasn't "better" than anything i've had here. Next, it was 2 and a half hours seated to walking out the door. Seems a little long to me.

@ LuvBug1997:, my vote, after JUST getting home from a week on DxDDP would be Rose & Crown Fish & Chips, Le Celler (soup was... wow), and my Parents gave the Hollywood Brown Derby a 2 thumbs up. But last August, I also loved the Biergarden at the Germany pavilion. Bratwurst & a Becks sitting by the lake? THAT'S an awesome father's day (to me).:thumbsup2

Well hello and a belated Happy New Year to all the Dads!

We are back from our 2 weeks in California. Let me just say it was nice but bittersweet and hard at the same time. My FIL had been doing quite well, but since my visit out there just last month, has sadly taken a turn for the worse. My DW did NOT want to leave at all, but all in all, it's good to be home once again sleeping in our own beds, instead of a different one every 2-3 nights.

I was back at the office today and wow was it a zoo. Over 1500 emails to sort through. Lots of vm's - and paper mail to boot. Plus, oh several deadlines to meet yet this week. Welcome back to reality! Ugh.

And California?... let's see... 5 cities, 29 relatives, Disneyland - packed Disneyland... record attendance Disneyland... ticket sales were stopped at 10 am Disneyland... sardines Disneyland. Wow. But VGC was magical beyond all measure. Oh my goodness. If any of you are able to get out there (who aren't already planning on doing so) - Please, PLEASE, PLEASE do. It has the charm and grace of the Wilderness Lodge, and so much more. Oh my goodness. It is fabulous. This was my 4th stay, but the 1st with the family, and my first in anything larger than a Studio. The 2 Bedroom (Dedicated) was magnificent. I just love the murphy bed in the living room, and that 3rd bathroom (like at Kidani), just made it so much easier for 9 people to get along. My SIL and nephews were absolutely enchanted. AND THE VIEW of World of Color at California Adventure was fabulous. Sure the Golden Zephyr ride was in the way for part - but it was quite nice viewing from either the balcony or the living room window after having seen it in person down in the park. I can't wait to stay again next November, if not sooner.

Well - lots to catch up on, and some updates to write for my existing TR and the one I'm trying to start as well from my bi-coastal trip in November/December (let alone the one that just finished...). I'll be back by soon. TTFN.

Welcome back Stopher and a Happy New Year to you as well. Sorry to hear about your FIL. I pray that he is able to make a turn around for the better quickly.

I walked through VGC a few weeks ago with it decked out for Christmas. While I have not seen the inside of the rooms at VGC (other than your pics), I must agree that the property is absolutely beautiful! I can definitely see the similarities to Wilderness Lodge.

Thanks for the update Christopher, I have a quick question for you. We are going to DL in April, did you get the dinner package for World of Color, or did you just wing it?

On my previous solo trip (November) I did wing it - but for this one, I wanted to be sure we'd be able to have a spot in the actual viewing area, so I went ahead and did the Picnic Meal option (vs. the sit-down meal option). Both provide FP's for inside the viewing area. The picnic option was about $20 less per person, and really wasn't that bad of a viewing spot. The sit-down option puts you pretty much front and center (section-wise), whereas the picnic option puts you to either side, but we got as close to the center as we could and it was just fine.

I hope you have a great trip when it's time for you to go! :thumbsup2

Welcome back and I'm sorry to hear about your FIL. I've only been in a packed park once - that's why we plan our trips WAY in advance. I don't know that I'd be able to handle a really packed park like that.
