What a night.
I'm about to finally head up to bed.

Both kids were home today with a nasty barking cough. Squeaker was clearly getting better by the end of the day. The Bug, not so much. By late afternoon, the barking cough was being accompanied by her old nemesis the strider. We gave her her prednisone, and an albuterol breathing treatment, but she kept getting worse. So while I got dinner together for Squeaker, DW too The Bug to the Urgent Care/ER (it's a branch of the major children's hospital).

They were at the ER from about 7 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. (and they should have been there until midnight, but that's another story). They got into an exam room and an initial assessment right away, but it took FOREVER for the doc to finally come around (yep - September 7 - the newbies have just started a new semester). They did another albuterol treatment, and she didn't improve significantly (we could've told them that, but then, we've been dealing with these issues with the Bug since she was a baby). So around 10 p.m., they finally got around to giving her the racemic epinephrine treatment (which we knew when we brought her in was what she needed). They're SUPPOSED to keep her for observation for two hours after that treatment, but THEY didn't know that, and the doc was busy, so they went ahead and released the Bug at 11:30 p.m.

I guess I should be glad that this is the first time we've had to deal with this (at least at this severity level) in a couple of years. And that we're dealing with it now, and not three and a half weeks from now. When the Bug was a baby, she got croup and needed these treatments about every five weeks for a year and a half. I know I need to get some sleep, but I'm still kinda wired from the whole evening.
Glad they found a treatment to get your DD out of there! Gotta love going to the ER.

When my daughter was on treatment, anytime she had a fever over 100 we had to bring her to the children's hospital ER (if the clinic was closed). It always seemed like this was happening at 11pm, 2am 4am. We were always there for a minimum of 4 hours. :faint:

BTW:: I uploaded a video to the facebook page. Don't know if anyone even goes over there anymore? We didn't have any videos on there so I added one. :happytv:

Glad all worked out AJ..

Happy Hump Day everyone!!!

Great news! Our waitlist came through for BLT.. we'll be staying in a one bedroom for this coming Mardi Gras!!!! We are extremely excited!!!

Dave hit it right: MusikFest in Bethlehem and the Eagles are at Lehigh every summer. Bethlehem also has Celtic Fest and Allentown has the Great Allentown Fair. Personally, I avoid them all like the plague! Too crowded anymore. I actually avoid the Eagles 'cause I'm a Giants fan. :lmao:
How old are your kids? I also avoid Dorney but we spent a day at Knoebel's last week and it was great, especially for little kids. That park is about 2 1/4 hours NW of Easton near Bloomsburg. Easton's claim to fame is still Larry Holmes. You can sometimes see him at his restaurant downtown. And, the Lehigh Valley has the Phillies AAA team, the IronPigs. We were at their finale Monday afternoon. They don't usually do very well but the stadium is great and they have the highest attendance of any minor league BB team in the country. Funny thing: Since we live in Easton, I'm usually trying to get away from here during vacations and you're trying to come here! :rotfl:

The kids are 5 (DD) and 8 (DS). After having gone to Easton, I'm finding out I'm surrounded by people with a connection there. One of the women that works for me is from Allentown, and the wife of another person at the office went to Lafayette. My brother thought he had been there also. He said he went to a scuba diving place in an old quary the was now filed in with all kinds of cool things to explore.

Yuck. Sorry you had such a rough night.

My brother and sister-in-law always seem to complain whenever we see them about how "tired" and "exhausted" they are. They have no kids. I read stories like yours and remember some of our own long nights and think, unless you have kids, you have no idea what the word "exhausted" means. :faint:

This is so true. I remember one night shortly after DD was born, and I came home from work went to the bedroom to get changed, and threw my work close into the hamper. A second later I realized I had actually thrown my close into the toilet not the hamper (which we keep out in the hallway, not even in the master bathroom)

Glad the little one is ok. Scary when they can't breathe. I could tell almost the exact same story about 2 months ago. Truely a helpless feeling when your little guy is laboring to breathe and the ER folks are not reacting well to your input.

Good News: we are offcialy 7 days away from being in the world! (9/16 to 9/26 GF, MNSSHP on the 18th) We leave on the 16th. So...we don;t count today...nor the day we leave...leaving 7 days to anticipate the coming events.

Anyone else going to be in the area during that time?

:lmao: that quary is about 3 miles from my house. my brother is a molder at crayola and has been doing it since 1972. when he first started there he would have to pour the hot wax in long trays with holes in them. than pick up the racks and knock them on a table to knock the crayons out. now he just sits and watches a machine.:lmao:( dont tell him i said that):lmao: my dad is a lafayette grad (1953) :thumbsup2

Hope things are looking better this morning!!

Uggg.. Taking the kids to the ER is always a heck of a night.

By the way - when/how you plan on telling the kids that you're going on vacation?
We're not telling them until the morning that we leave. We have an early flight, so we're going to have to wake them at about 4:30 a.m. I'll have the Flip Video camera set up on the tripod in The Bug's room, start recording, and wake her up. When she complains (and I know she will) we'll tell her that she needs to get moving, because we have plans for dinner at the Three Broomsticks tonight! :wizard:

Glad they found a treatment to get your DD out of there! Gotta love going to the ER.
The annoying part is that we've been through this (many times) before. We KNOW what treatment works. But they have to follow protocol and try the other treatment first. There are some potentially serious side effects to the epinephrine treatment (especially since The Bug had an artery repair procedure when she was a toddler), so they don't want do that unless they have to.

Glad all worked out AJ..

Amen. When this was happening more frequently, it ALWAYS started right around midnight. Rushing The Bug to the ER at 1 a.m. was bad enough. What was even worse was the complete inability to go to sleep before 2 a.m. or so, for weeks at a time, because I couldn't let myself sleep for fear of missing the strider in her breathing that said we needed to get to the ER.

This is so true. I remember one night shortly after DD was born, and I came home from work went to the bedroom to get changed, and threw my work close into the hamper. LOL:lmao: I think the closest I've come to that was smacking my toes on the bedpost while stumbling to bed after one of those nights, and hitting my toes so hard that I broke my pinky toe. I didn't even notice it until the next evening, when I saw how black and blue that side of my foot was.

Glad the little one is ok. Scary when they can't breathe. I could tell almost the exact same story about 2 months ago. Truely a helpless feeling when your little guy is laboring to breathe and the ER folks are not reacting well to your input.

Thanks for all of your concern guys. She's doing great this morning. I brought her in to work with me, because she can usually keep herself occupied here at the office. The only real problem is that the meds have her wired like she's on meth or something.

Since 6 p.m. last night, she's had a dose of prednisone, two albuterol breathing treatments, four albuterol inhaler puffs, and the racemic epinephrine treatment - all of which have an "upper" effect. She was so wired last night that she got up out of bed around 4 a.m. and went ahead and got dressed for a day at work with me, then got back into bed. She pretty much just dozed all night - no actual deep sleep. She actually had the shakes for a while, she was so wired.

So far, she's occupied herself by watching Lilo & Stitch on the big screen in the conference room and playing games on my iPad. Right now, she's watching YouTube videos I've uploaded over the years. I've actually gotten some productive work done, and we'll be heading home a couple of hours early, since tonight is Rosh Hashana Eve and we need to get home for dinner before services.

As a matter of fact, yes! We'll be staying at POR from the 18th to the 25th. So we're 10 days away. PM me and I can give you more details. :thumbsup2

Hey guys, since it looks like I am going to have to kill the December trip and because of the summer trip to see DW's parents in Europe in June it looks like our next trip won't be until Christmas 2011:scared1:. I was wondering if any of the DVC dads have any experience renting/transferring out points. I'm going to end up with 65 I banked last year I will need to rent out and I have decided to sell off most or all of the other 200 2010 use year points to finance the summer trip.

If anyone has experience with this please shoot me a PM with the basics, I have read the info in the rent/trade board and know what to do as far as posting it but don't want to screw this up once someone replies that they want them.

Awesome! Have you stayed at BLT before? It's on our list of resorts to try, but we haven't gotten there yet. Did you get the Magic Kingdom View?

I can't help the points advice, but that's a total bummer about the trip. :sad1:

my sister just called, she brought my brother in law home from philly today. they both have been at the univ. of pa for the last 4 weeks, he had a stem cell transplant and his counts are high enough for him to come home. :thumbsup2

Glad to hear that the little one is okay. It's never fun having to take the little ones to the dr, urgent care or the er. On another note looks like we'll be in DW at the same time.

We just happen to be starting our 1st driving journey to the world on Monday evening. We will also be enjoying MNSSHP on the 18th as well, and staying at POR, just did the online checkin last night. These last few days cannot come fast enough.

I am looking for volunteers to help me finish my college coursework so I have no worries on my vacation any takers?

I'll do it for you. Doesn't matter what it's in - I barely paid attention in any of my college courses but was able to BS my way to a degree. :thumbsup2
What's your plan for driving? Commando all the way down or stopping for the night?

That sounds great! I wish we had the patience to not tell the kids when we're going. We >200 days away and my son asks every day if we're going tomorrow.

OK I will let you do my work, I am almost done BSing my way through my degree as well. This is a Psychology of Human relations course so it is actually fairly interesting. I do like online courses especially since I am done with all of my hard classes.

For driving we are going to go commando. When the kids get home from school Monday we are off and will drive through the night and the day on Tuesday. We will stop around Orlando Tuesday evening to take a rest for the night and get up nice and early and mozzy on over to the world to check in and hit the parks. Might as well be rested before getting there and not waste the first day sleeping.

How is everyone's today going? All I can say is....I thought tomorrow was Friday...>Uuuugh! These new 4 day work weeks are just really throwing me off when I worked the holiday on Monday.....

Been and interesting day here....Shari had to go to ENT for the mass the doc felt in her throat...he ordered a thyroid biopsy...so luckily for her....I pulled some strings and called in a few favors and we got that done today....They took an exact measurement of the mass and it was over 3cm which means the doc is going to take it out whether or not the biopsy comes back malignant. I had a rare hereditary form of Thyroid cancer in 94 so I guess she is trying to be more like me!:rotfl2: Might as well make a joke of it and laugh to keep from crying! LOL

One a happier note....Marshall is playing WVU and it is on TV Friday evening...so you guys can look for us...I will be the one wearing green and yelling for the Herd! :rotfl2:
