Well, we just found out yesterday afternoon that our Disney Visa has been compromised. Still trying to figure out how someone got the number, but that is neither here nor there. They charged about $600 of stuff at a Home Depot in Houston. The lady asked me if I had been in a Home Depot in Texas today and I said, "well, since I'm in NC, there is no way that was me." Gonna have to check the bill very closely this month for other bogus stuff. They have already taken the charges off of our account and issued a new card that should be here by the end of the week.
We had a couple instances lately: someone tried to use our VISA in GA to try to make a big purchase at Kohl's but it was kicked back somehow. And, our son's account was compromised when a store's system was hacked right after he had made some purchases. They didn't try to use his number so we was able to cancel it and get a new account number.

Hey, we're up to $900!!! We might make $1000 after all!

I'm guessing you'll be quite productive at work tomorrow, huh?:rotfl2:

HAHA! Yeah... I had been debating whether or not to go into work today. Didn't want to burn 8 hours of vacation time, but then again I'm not going to be very productive.:rolleyes1 However, as I sit here waiting for the 24 hour mark to get my boarding assignments from Southwest, I remembered an incident in WDW concerning one of our credit cards. DW and I had stayed offsite back in '97 for 5 days. On the 4th day we were at Epcot and I tried to buy a hat from one of the stores. The lady politely gives me the "I'm sorry. Your card is declined" routine. Of course, I'm like "Ummm... there should be plenty of credit available... please try again." Nope... no can do. Maxed out. Ended up calling customer service and sure enough someone had stolen our card and bought over $1000 in an hour... somewhere in Orlando! Well... we were young then... and had left DW's purse in the room... in a suitcase (not in the safe). Room keeping had gone into the suitcase, into the purse, and took that card. Unfortunately for us, it was the only card we had. We had to beg and plead with the credit card company to give us the credit back because it was our only means to get home! HAHA! Hard lessons learned. Oh... and the hotel did absolutely nothing... not even an apology.

I remembered an incident in WDW concerning one of our credit cards.

That reminds me of my "Magical Moment" with a declined credit card. It was during our October trip last year. I just re-read that day's entry in my TR (link here) but I didn't mention anything about the credit card. I tried to pay for the crappy buffet at Sizzlin' Grill with my Disney Visa, but it was declined. I just used my debit card to pay (we were very hungry, so I didn't want to stand there and argue with the lady). After I got my first plateful of food, I fired up my Blackberry and tried to go to Chase's website to see if there were any new, unauthorized charges. Chase has a security feature on their website where you have to get a code (either via automated voice call or text message) whenever you use a new computer/device to access their site. Their site only had my home phone number on file, so I had them leave the message there. I called my voicemail to get the code, which is a 6 digit number. Not having anything with me to write with, I wrote the code in my mashed potatoes! :rotfl2:
Anyway, I got logged on and didn't find any crazy charges. Their machine may have been on the fritz, as I didn't have any problems with the card the rest of the trip.

Wow... time is flying by! Haven't even had much time on the DDC. Only 32 hours left before we are boarding the flight to WDW :cool1: So stoked!

I have also been off the DDC because I spent the weekend in the keys. Just cathing up.

Don, hope you and the family have a great time. The storms are clearing out of Orlando and are headed this way. After it goes through, it should be great weather there for at least the next few days.

Depending on the State Laws, Charters, Agreements, applicable Federal Law etc etc etc...the credit card companies will usually take the hit....USUALLY...not always....

That's one reason they charge the business a fee per transaction on their cards---another reason you see the minimum credit card purchase amounts...

A few years ago, before credit card fraud really took off---like Early-mid 1990's---before it was so easy to grab numbers from the internet or from the store based computers (remember when they used to carbon press your card?) ---they really would really go after the credit card owner/payee..in other words...YOU!!

Congress actually did something productive (I know, I know, who'd athunk it) with some of the Consumer Protection Acts that put the responsibility right back on the Credit Card Issuing Banks....

I USED to be somewhat sympathetic to the Credit Card Companies....right until I heard this exchange at a conference....

At the conference of the International Financial Crimes Investigators Association (which I'm a member of), a bunch of us were in the "hospitality room":rolleyes1, talking about a spike in credit card fraud....That's when the Visa National Rep told us, "We don't worry about fraud, because our profits are XXXXXX Billion, so a few million in fraud is no big deal"....

All of us kinda stood there like:scared1::scared1::scared1:

Someone, I don't remember who, but it might have been one of the Virginia State Police guys told him "well, I'll remember that next time one of my victims gets a threatening letter during a fraud investigation"....I think the guy recognized his mistake and we didn't hear much from him....

Man, it used to be PAINFUL for victims...they had to get all kinds of affadavits, signatures, proof, etc. etc...not for us, but for the company to leave them alone.....and that's kind of tough when you live in SC and the fraud is in California!!!!

Have I told you guys how much I HATE credit cards...:confused3:rotfl2::lmao:
