Ok, I give up.What kind of work are dis dads in that allows them to retire at 48 or 49? Did I mistakenly wander in to the Dis Independently Wealthy thread?
What career path did I miss out on?

AirGoofy & Commando - Retiring that early would be great - good for you (uttered with jealousy through gritted teeth). I've got a good 30 yrs to go.

I'd like to know that, too! I'm a 59 year old chemical tech, make pretty decent money for no 4-year degree, and still can't even think about ever possibly retiring. I doubt I'll ever be able to afford to retire; I'll just pass away in my lab at work one day. Maybe I should have made the Navy a career; I could have retired in 1991! Does the Navy still have morse code operators? Does the Navy even have Radiomen anymore?![]()

My Dad retired in '02 after 35 years in Education and in Ohio he was able to get 90%of his salary as retirement. Also, if he had chosen to do so he could have sat our 1 month and then gone back to work in the schools and still draw his retirement at the same time. Some days I wonder why I chose Health are over Education as a career. Then on payday I rememberTeachers need to get wayyy more than they are paid.
