It was AWESOME!

I was there the 15th-19th of November there were no lines for sum of all fears. My wife and I stood in front of mission space and watched the space shuttle take off (very cool thing to witness). We then went to Sum of All Fears and went right into the "Briefing Room”. I informed the cast member that instructed us to go in that I could skip this step as I was already wearing briefs, but I had to do the briefing anyway. It was very cool we did the jet. Which did you do?

Hey there guys - it's been quite a while since I last posted - I can't even remember when. Wow, for so long it was daily or more, and now it's been several months I'm guessing. Lots to read back through, but no time right now. I hope you're all doing well. WELCOME to our newest dads (so many since I last posted!)

I am currently sitting in Pasadena, CA - headed to DL tomorrow after a breakfast meeting with an old friend from preschool all the way through high school. I'm out here for work all next week, but of course can't come to Southern California and not hit the land! I'll be staying tomorrow night at the Paradise Pier Hotel directly across the street from DCA, and then at the end of the week will be my first stay in the new Villas at the Grand Californian. I'm so excited to use my VGC points!

I'll be sure to get some good photos of the Christmas decorations, and yes, I'll be good and come back on here later in the week and actually post some for y'all to see. I'm so excited to get my Disney fix! :cool1: And then in just about 6 weeks we leave for WDW. :thumbsup2

TTFN...but I promise it won't be too long this time. I actually took a hiatus from the DIS entirely for a while, and have slowly been getting back into it. Been posting mainly on the DVC boards recently, but will pop back in here as well from time to time. I just joined the Facebook group page as well - so here or there, you'll see me.

Great to see you here Stopher!!!:thumbsup2

I agree with Mijo - I'm not a fan of the lime green. For a keychain or something, fine - but not to put on my head. It would be fine as a secondary or accent color, though.
I typically don't wear hats to the parks anyway. But I did a little poking around on threadsmith's site and some of the polo shirts had some potential...

I would wear a polo shirt before a hat, I usually only wear hats on saturday mornings when we go out to breakfast.

I'm pretty sure it is a 250 page limit. Nice of you to nominate chili... I second the nomination! :thumbsup2

I think we need someone who is on the boards more often, and likes updateing lists. I have not updated the membership criteria at all.

The DS6 kept commenting on the Christmas lights on the neighbor's houses but the DW told him that Dad doesn't like getting up on the ladder to put them up.

So tonight, I took the weatherman's queue on this being the last nice day before the cold fronts come in and climbed the ladder to start hanging lights. Everything went fine until it started raining halfway through. Man, that was some COLD rain!

A dads got to do what a dads got to do. Great Job, way to suck it up!:thumbsup2

Hope you guys are watching "Behind the Magic: Disney Holidays" on HGTV. This is AWESOME! If you ever wanted to see how they put out those Christmas decorations at Disney World, this is a must-see show!

I'll be happy to do it :yay:

I thought you might, I had you in mind when i mentioned updating lists.:rotfl2::rotfl2: Out of respect I think we should send the Fanatic a pm and see if he wants to take control again. I know he has an orlando trip coming up.

Watching but the Steelers are on so I am switching to the game!

A polo shirt would work, too. It would be pretty easy to add some type of graphic since there would be more room.

I was just checking out that website.

I got a couple of ?'s that MiJo might be able to answer. I was looking at the t-shirts at $12.95, When you go to the get ideas page the pics shown with logos is that the complete price or is it that much extra, also they probably can not do a character due to copyright issues.

Seems like they offer around 25 colors, and a vast variety of shirt styles etc, and they can store the logo.

The 2 important things would be color and logo, shirt or hat shouldn't matter since everyone goes at different times of the year- spring, summer ( t, polo or hat), fall or winter (sweat, fleece, or hat)

Well said, Randy. This really is a great place to hang out.

From what I can tell, the common bond is that we seem to be a group of dads who love their families. That goes a long way.

Either that, or we all just love to make fun of Don and his TR. :lmao:

:rotfl2::rotfl2::lmao::lmao: Too funny!

I just checked threadsmith.com again and they have a brushed cotton adjustable pre-curved hat in lime green! I worked on a design a little that includes The DIS DADS CLUB and MiJo. Right now, with their 40% off discount, the hat is less than $15, including shipping (through Monday). There's no minimum order so the name can easily be changed to whatever each person would want.
They seem to run this type of discount fairly often so we could give this a thought if anyone else is interested. They also do various types of shirts and stuff. My thinking is a hat can be worn every day in the parks, unlike a shirt. I can post instructions on how to design the hat if anyone is interested.
The colors look better on the site than they do here. I had to print the page and scan it in order to put the image up here. The lime green isn't as "bright" as it looks here.
Note: I am not affiliated with threadsmith in any way! :lmao: Actually, I was looking to design a Navy hat and found this site.

I'm interested in any kind DIS Dad's apparel. I think our group is getting large enough... time to start marketing :cool1:

Just got home - totally exhausted and working my way through 1051 (3.5 GB) pictures.

So tired...

Welcome back! Have fun getting through all the pictures!

Definitely need to give first dibs to Fanatic.... THE ORIGINAL DIS DAD!

The DS6 kept commenting on the Christmas lights on the neighbor's houses but the DW told him that Dad doesn't like getting up on the ladder to put them up.

I used to be able to get up that ladder much better - many pounds ago. Unfortunately, the last of my outdoor lights I hung on the gutters died last year. 10 yrs ago, they started at 5 strands of single, multi-color bulbs. As a strand died, they went lower on the house (I hated that climb to the top of the peak of the roof) until just the gutters were done and this year, none at all. I put the giant candy canes and nativity scene out this year and will have to hit the after Christmas sales for some lights.

As for the hat vote, I like the idea, because I could wear it everyday to the parks and still wear the matching t-shirts with the family. As for color, design, etc. - I will defer to the original Dis-Dad wisdom.

As I understand it, the price includes the embroidery but does not include shipping of about $5.95. I guess I opened a can of worms here since everyone wants different types of apparel! The thinking here is that everyone would have to order their own since I wouldn't know how to order individually embroidered items for so many guys and then have them shipped to each person's address. If we can come up with a logo, I believe it can be stored on the site. However, logos with a graphic have to be at least 300 dpi to look right and I don't think I have any software capable of doing that. If we go with just lettering, that should be no problem. If we do have a stored logo, each member could order whatever item he wanted with the logo. To add a name, it would probably just be a matter of adding something to the logo on the "design now" page, although I'm not sure about that. I could find out if enough guys are interested. The site also runs specials from time to time, as they are doing now. This one is 40% off and expires at midnight tonight.

Ok, dropped off radar with travel and Turkey Day, but now I'm back..

What did I miss...I know it's something....Oh, and I'm in for the shirt:thumbsup2

Good to have you back! But I think you need to update your "location" to something a little more homey and stateside!

So ok, I'm sitting in my room at the Paradise Pier Hotel waiting for the parks to open not til 10 today - but that's cool since DL was open til midnight last night, and I stayed until the very end when the end of day announcement was made "Ladies & Gentlemen, boys & girls, Disneyland has now ended it's operating day. Thank you for coming and we hope you'll be back soon. For your shopping convenience, Main Street will be open for an additional hour" AHHH, home. It sure was fun to be there. Can't wait to go back for a few hours today before I have head over to the office and start a week of meetings.

For your viewing pleasure, especially those of you who have not been to DL during the Christmas season - here is a sampling of my evening last night. Heavy on It's a Small World Holiday. Normally I'm not a huge IASW fan, though I do ride it, but I AM a huge SW Holiday fan - though I definitely prefer the DL original to the shortened/modified MK version, even with the controverisal additions made to the DL version last year (they added in doll-stylized versions of Disney characters to the respective world areas they are from ... i.e. Alice & Peter Pan in England, Mulan & Mushu in China, Aladdin & Jasmine in the Middle East, etc). The holiday overlay is now in its' 13th season and still going quite strong. If you ever have the opportunity to go to DL between early November & New Year's - take it!!! No other IASW currently gets this overlay.

Today I plan to get photos of the Haunted Mansion Holiday and will post them later as well. My camera battery died last night when I rode it...so I need to go back this morning. I definitely am not a fan of Nightmare Before Christmas, or the overlay, but since it's now in its' 9th season - there definitely are some diehard Jack fans that like it.

Believe...in Holiday Magic, the Christmas fireworks show...good, but nothing overly exciting

Years ago this "snow fall" enthralled my DW & I when we lived in Orange County... now after living in the midwest for 9 winters, I wasn't as "oohing" and "ahhing" as most on Main Street were. (And honestly, soap flake bubbles getting into your eyes & mouth just isn't fun either)

Like many of the DL attractions, the queue and loading platform at IASW are completely outside. A huge difference from the MK. Plus the oversized facade that the revised version at the MK is based on. Here covered in thousands of sparkling lights for Christmas. They have a little "lighting" ceremony every 20 mins or so, where it goes completely dark, then has a fun lighting projection show on it of lots of various holiday images on the normally white & gold surface, that then finally explodes in burst of color at the end of the 1 or 2 minute "show"

The seasonal overlay isn't just a cosmetic exterior one either... once inside, you see all kinds of holiday delights, including Santa inside his workshop, and hear him reading a list of names

Each room is decked out for the holidays, and the soundtrack is modified! They took the original music, and interwined Jingle Bells, Deck the Halls and other Christmas music into it. It works wonderfully, and really is a refreshing change from that endless, tortuous tune.
