Hey eveyone. Its been a long time since I have been on and posted (think DIS Dads 1, very early on). Glad to see that y'all are still around.

My family and I are heading to the Fort for some much needed R&R after a very busy year. We will be hanging out Nov 29th - Dec 10th. Once we get a site number I will post it so you can stop by and chat.

My wife has been hinting that she wants to go somewhere else next vacation. I am confused as I did not know there was anywhere else to go. Huh???? I did offer that she could plan the next vacation and we would go. If she did not plan one its back to WDW. I have yet to see any planning so there is hope.

My DW tried to play that card last year... then she looked at prices for other vacations... and then admitted that maybe Disney DOES give you the biggest "bang" for your buck! Maybe some day we'll address a non-Disney vacation... but for now... while DD is still young... I'm riding this train all the way to Toon Town!

We'll be at POR in June 2010. Believe it or not, this moderate was cheaper than the values. With 5 people we would have had to get a family suite at ASMu. My wife seems excited about the 'Orleans' theme. As long as there's a bed and a bathroom, I'm good.

Oh yeah, golf carts - good idea. My in-laws rented one for a day while we were there. My oldest DD who was 3 at the time, still remembers driving around in the golf cart with MIL. It's funny what makes a vacation memorable!

I agree with MIJo - you will like Port Orleans. It is pretty laid back and definitely a good value. I've stayed at the "french quarter" twice, and at the "riverside" once (many many years ago as a kid when it first opened - I think it was called "Dixie Landings" back then). I believe the piano bar MIJo is referring to is on the french quarter side if I'm not mistaken.

itJeff: You'll enjoy POR. It sounds like you will be staying in the Alligator Bayou section since that's the section with the trundle beds. Don't forget to make plans to spend an evening with Bob "The Piano Man" Jackson in the lounge! He is great family entertainment and the kids love him. He is usually there Wednesday-Saturday evenings at 8:30 PM.

I have to echo the love for POR here. We stayed there on our last trip, and weren't expecting much out of it--and were very surprised how much we liked it! Just a great place to stay. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Luckily, DW has not suggested off site, but I have a plan. If she suggests it, I will agree and will tell her how excited I am to get tickets each night for football, baseball, hockey, and every other sporting event in whatever town she wants to travel. After that comment, it will be Disney all the way. Now, if I can convince her to go in Feb for ESPN the weekend, I may get the best of both worlds. The only other place I could think of now is the World Series. Great pitching yesterday between Lee and Sabathia. Tonight's game is really good as well.

ZuperDave & Captain Oblivious & DisneyDaddy-O - It's good to hear positive things about POR. Have any of you stayed in the AB section? I wondering now if the 5 of us will feel cramped. We're just going to sleep there and there's always someone fighting over the bathroom in my house anyway.

So, those of y'all who go every year.... does it not start to get old after a while? We've adopted the approach to go the WDW every third year. Our DDs are (roughly) 3 years apart, and this way they'll each get to experience things around the same ages. We really like to travel. I already have 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 lined out - WDW, South Dakota, D.C., WDW respectively. And no, I'm not OCD.

I'm just wondering how you go so often without getting burnt out. We went to Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO (about a 4 hour trip for us) about 10 times in 2008. It was a lot of fun, but we haven't really had any desire to go back this year. Granted, SDC is no comparison to WDW. But, I don't know if we could go anywhere repeatedly without our girls getting bored with it.

I will admit, it would be fun trying to bore them with Disney.

Bob Jackson performs in the lounge at Riverside, formally Dixie Landings. There was supposed to be a saxophone player at FQ when we were there but he canceled. Here is Bob's Website with his schedule, etc.

One downside to the FQ is that there is no full service restaurant, just a food court. The restaurant was closed after 9/11 and hasn't reopened (I think the whole resort was closed for a while after 9/11). Boatwright's is still open at Riverside but only for dinner, no more breakfasts as far as I know. There is a boat that runs from FQ to Riverside and DTD that is a plus for this resort.

itJeff: The rooms at Riverside are standard sized rooms with 2 Queen beds, I believe. We haven't stayed in the AB since 1999. Anyway, the bed closest to the door had the trundle bed, which is a small bed hidden under the regular bed. You slide it out and voila, a third bed. There should be 2 sinks located outside the toilet/tub area. FQ has a curtain that can be closed between the sink area and sleeping area so I imagine Riverside has the same setup. That helps to supply some privacy when people are getting ready to hit the parks. The AB buildings are set in a pretty neat environment with winding paths, nice landscaping and, when we were there, sounds of bullfrogs, chickens, etc. piped in along the paths. It's about a 10-15 minute walk from the main building at Riverside to the main building at FQ, if you don't take the boat. We have been to Riverside 3 times, the FQ twice, CSR once and AKL once and we really enjoy Port Orleans. We've enjoyed all of the resorts we have stayed in but my DW likes FQ the best because of its convenient size and the overall theme/music. I probably prefer the AB for appearance. When we stayed there, I walked around singing CCR's "Born on the Bayou"!

During the trip we just got back from, DD turned 5 and DS turned 3. Madison has now been there 5 times, Evan has been 4. They still don't show any signs of burn out. In fact, Madison was so excited this time because she was over 40", so she was able to ride Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Tower of Terror. Evan was tall enough for Kali River Rapids. He was very bummed out that he didn't get to ride Splash mountain, so every time he says he doesn't want to finish eating I get to remind him that his food will help him grow big enough to ride Splash Mountain.
But aside from all of the "new" stuff on each trip, they still love seeing the characters and shows that they've seen dozens of times already.
As for the wife and I - I don't see any signs of burn out either. Just the magic of being there and experiencing it all through my kids' eyes keeps me coming back.

I really think it depends on your kids, we have friends with 2 boys under 10 who went two years ago, spent one day in each park and the kids have no desire to ever go back. On the other hand we have been 3 times in 18 months with our DS(4) and every time we load up the van for a day trip he asks if we are going to see Mickey. For us right now it is great because it seems every time we go he gets a bit braver and wants to go on bigger rides. I will admit the character breakfasts are starting to get on my nerves though
