So, those of y'all who go every year.... does it not start to get old after a while? We've adopted the approach to go the WDW every third year. Our DDs are (roughly) 3 years apart, and this way they'll each get to experience things around the same ages. We really like to travel. I already have 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 lined out - WDW, South Dakota, D.C., WDW respectively. And no, I'm not OCD. :rotfl:

I'm just wondering how you go so often without getting burnt out. We went to Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO (about a 4 hour trip for us) about 10 times in 2008. It was a lot of fun, but we haven't really had any desire to go back this year. Granted, SDC is no comparison to WDW. But, I don't know if we could go anywhere repeatedly without our girls getting bored with it.

I will admit, it would be fun trying to bore them with Disney.

No.

When I read this I really put some thought into it. I put aside my intial response of "never", and really thought about it. For me as a Dad, I can take my family somewhere, where everyone can enjoy themselves and can really get swept up in the magic. I can feel pretty safe on property with my family. I leave all my problems, including emails, cell phone calls and even cars at home and enjoy the time that I have been blessed with. I have experienced some loss in my life including this year and I don't take any of my time with my family for granted and enjoy every minute. Disney is a place where I can be a kid again. Everyone talks about seeing the parks through the eyes of your children, which I do everytime. But take a closer look, your kids are very observant and are living the parks through your eyes as well. Let loose and enjoy.

So when people ask me "Are you going to Disney again?" I just look at them and simply answer "It's a Disney thing, you would'nt understand." ;)

So, to answer your question "No" :lmao:

People have stopped asking me "are you going to Disney again?" and now just ask "when are you going to Disney again."

DW and I have discussed long-term vacation plans, and when the kids are older and can get more out of other vacations to national monuments, etc we will go. We've even discussed what to do when the kids have grown up and gone off to college. We'll do parents only trips to Disney, and can you imagine a better place for a family reunion?

Wow, Jeff, you really started quite a good discussion here. Ironically, I've been thinking about the same thing myself lately. As an aside, I must admit that it's comforting to know that I'm not the only one who plans out trip ideas many years in advance!

Everyone who replied has made good points and I think the bottom line is that every family is different and you've gotta do what works for your family. I think your 3-year pattern makes sense, and if it works for your family, keep it up.

For my family, we (or at least me) are trying to figure out what works for us. My DDs are young (1 and 4) and my 4-year old (who has probably been 4 times already) LOVES it. But yet I know that as they start to get older, I want to take them on some other great trips (Grand Canyon, Washington DC, etc). I'm thinking an annual trip to WDW (some years a week - others maybe just a weekend), coupled with "something else" in the years we don't go for a week might work for us. Of course, I am at an advantage over many being able to take quick "weekend" trips since I'm only 3 hours away!

Just go with the flow and keep the 'fam happy and it will all work out! Remember: we are lucky to have this "problem!"

New to the Dis and jumping right in, what's up dad's? Taking my family at Christmas for the kids first visit (mom and I are park veterans). Having too much fun getting my girls all pumped up for a trip that's still two months away.

I love the fact that there are other dad's who are as fanatical about WDW as me. I am the planner, scheduler, and all around tour guide for our annual trips. This is an awesome thread.

Great topic itJeff!

First things first: We did not stay in the AB section of POR--we had 4 plus a baby on the other side. I can't say we felt cramped, but we really don't require much from a hotel room--give me a bed, shower, and toilet and we can make a home for the night. And like you said, you won't spend much time there. We were able to bring the kids back for naps in the afternoon and pull that off somehow.

I obsessively plan vacations too! The anticipation is half the fun for me.

When I was a kid, my parents decided that instead of spending money on a bigger house or pool membership or something, they wanted my brothers and I to see the country. As a result, I've been to 49 states now (still need Alaska), and I'm grateful that they did that for me. We have so many memories as a result, and I have a love of travel and exploring. And my wife and I want to do the same for our kids.

Every time we go to WDW, it's special, and we love the atmosphere there. For us, I think the magic stays alive best by visiting once every few years. Our kids are just starting to appreciate sightseeing, and we did a great long weekend in New England earlier this year. They absolutely love it when we take a day trip to D.C. I can't wait to show them the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Hawaii, Chicago, and all the rest of the places this country has to offer.

Not that I can blame anyone for going to Disney year after year--when we visit, we never want to leave!

I could not have said that better myself. We will get our "disney Fix" on a DCL cruise in March but I think we are going to have other plans for the summer vacations. Still trying to decide what to do and where to go. I would love to go to Hawaii again but I want to take the kids and I dont think they are old enough to appreciate the beauty of it yet.

We have went once a year for past 5 years (twice this year), and everyone loves it. My two DDs (7,5) have a great time, and DW and I honeymooned there 10 years ago. We have stayed at a different resort each time and add new restaurants. But we still love it and are already planning next years!

how many days will it take you from the time you step on the plane in iraq till you hit your front door?

4 Days give or take. I'm supposed to leave 19NOV but weird stuff happens (like bad weather or heavy dust) that can sometimes ground air traffic. Luckily, we fly Fixed Wing out of here, so weather is less of an issue. We fly from here to Ali Al Saleem Air Base in Kuwait--thank GOD I don't have to stay there, our support personnel pick us up and take us to our Hotel in Kuwait City. Then I have 3 or 4 days at the Hilton Kuwaiti Resort getting "civilized":rotfl:. My flight leaves Kuwait City International at 1245 AM, local time, on 23NOV. Then it's a short 16 hours in the air (United) to Dulles, then 2 hours to Jacksonville. We'll be 8 hours ahead by that time, so I'll get home about 1045 AM EST. Looooong day, but sooooo worth it:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 2006 was the worst return trip, but that's another story.

In regard to whether or not Disney gets old....we usually go at least once a year, but we go at different times of the year and do different things, so it keeps it "fresh". We took my son for his first trip last year at 9 months old (my mom and dad went with us) and that was exciting and new for us, and it worked out really well:yay:

We're going for a quick hitter in Dec, then again Jan/Feb for a week or so.:wizard:

I'm the Disney nut in our house. It took me years to convince my DW to go but we finally made our first trip in 1990. Our kids were 13, 11 and 7 and we stayed offsite. My DW, who doesn't care much for amusement parks, discovered what I'd been telling her for years: Disney World isn't Dorney Park! She really enjoyed it. Still, our next trip wasn't until 1999 and it was just the DW and myself. We stayed at Dixie Landings, now POR, and my DW fell in love with the resort. She still isn't a huge fan of the parks but she does have her favorite attractions and she does love the resorts. For her, the enjoyment is now going with others who have never been there or who haven't been there for many years. That was one of the reasons we just made the trip with our son who is now 27 and hadn't been to WDW since 1990. It is doubtful we will be returning until we can do a trip with one or two of our grandkids. There is a trip being tentatively planned for 3 years or so from now but probably nothing between now and then. Instead, we enjoy an off season beach house in Holden Beach, NC, or spending a winter week in Cape Canaveral. Since we're older than most, if not all, of you guys, we need a nice, quiet week to relax sometimes! :lmao: Someday, I might have to start the DIS PopPop's Club, if there isn't one already! :thumbsup2
