The only expense I have along the way is for coffee (other than gas).

That's impressive!

I was just reading Bill Simmons' column on his Vegas trip on ESPN.com, and he had the following line:

"As far as I can tell, Barstow, Calif., (halfway between L.A. and Vegas) was created solely to serve hungry people who need to pee and refuel as fast as humanly possible. Every fast food chain and gas station is represented; it's almost like a Food and Gas Convention. This trip, I have a hankering for Arby's [edited for family website] medium roast beef cheddar sandwich and a big thing of curly fries. Mmmmmmm. In last week's mailbag, I talked about Press Box Hot and all the different variations (somehow forgetting Prison Guard Hot and Golf Club Drink Girl Hot). Well, there's a cousin to Press Box Hot: Highway Hungry. If you're on the highway for more than two hours, seeing food signs for long enough, any food suddenly becomes six times as good. This Arby's sandwich tastes like Wolfgang Puck and Adam Perry Lang made it. We're off to a good start."

Is that true or what? The longer you drive, the more interesting those blue signs get at each exit! :lmao:

Ohhh man I love getting arby's for road trips. I'll even drive with my knees just so that I can scoop out the last melted cheddar in the little cup with my last curly fry. Ohhh mouth watering good!:woohoo:

Hey guys just a quick post. My wife and I were in for a Level 2 Ultrasound today to check the health of the baby. Everything is looking good and they did not have any concerns:thumbsup2. We were also able to find out the sex of the baby. We will be having another boy:banana:. Can't wait to meet him and introduce him to Disney, the Phillies, the EAGLES and fishing!!!!!!

CONGRATS KEVIN!!:thumbsup2 nice to hear some good news!

when dd was little, we would leave around 5pm, drive all night and get there in the morning. the only problem was dd was ready to go (she slept all night) and we were dragging. now we do two days on the way down and one day home. dw lost her vision in her left eye so she only drives when she has to. on the way home, she drive s.carolina and i drive all the other states. i never flew to wdw in all these years. when i was a kid 8-9 years old, the south had self service gas stations, my dad would let me hold the handle to pump gas. i thought it was the coolest thing in the world. the old 76 truck stops. i remember more of the drives down and back than i do in the parks!:lmao: the drive is just fun for us.

It is great driving at night. You do not have to run the air conditioner and there is very little traffic. You mentionned the one drawback - getting there in the morning with the children having slept and ready to go, and I am on no sleep. I have started taking naps on Friday before I drive.

We need to start thining of boy names now for Kevin and his wife. I am sure they have a lot of things on their minds without that added to it....

We could name him Mickey of course or Donald...or Aladin. ....or just plain old Prince ha ha:laughing:

I guess I was a little misleading. We do bring snacks, so the expense is upfront, but still, buying a package of snacks at the grocery is a lot cheaper than a la carte at the gas station. That is a really interesting post. And, I do miss the old days of driving towards a destination, no really set route, no reservations, and trying new things. Now, with the children fighting in the car and excited to get to Disney (although not as excited as I), driving at night was the best choice. Perhaps when they get older . . .

NFL fan here. Cowboys are my team, but I enjoy watching pro over college. But, have to pull for my state teams in College Ball - UL (Louisville Cardinals) and UK (Kentucky Wildcats). UL had a great season a few years ago under Petrino (won the Orange Bowl), but new coach has taken them in wrong direction. UK improved under Brooks. I think it was Marshall that beat UL in bowl one year (with Pennington and Moss, or was it Leftwich) - but I will not hold a grudge. Stay tuned for college basketball this year - Rick Pitino vs. John Calapari.

Mickey is actually already taken. My oldest is Michael and we call him Mick, Mickey ends up coming out alot, My yhoungest is Ethan and we call him SharkBait from Finding Nemo. That is his favorite movie. Keep the names coming...

I feel ya Herd. I'm a Northwestern guy. Nothing like holding the rest of the Big 10 above your head. Strongest team in the standings. :lmao:

Good luck all!
