Hmmmm...I-95...hmmmmm

Depends on what time you're passing through and where......

Savannah has a bunch of stuff right on the interstate---don't believe the hype about Brunswick--everything there is well off the interstate, not to mention heavy construction in that area..

For all of you guys heading on 95, just a heads up...there is HEAVY I 95 construction going on South of Savannah all the way through Glynn County (it was hot and heavy when I left, and WIFECOM informs me it's still going on)...

Once you clear Savannah South (Richmond Hill Exit), you have about another 20 miles or so until you hit in McIntosh county. There's Concrete Jersey Barriers funneling traffic through--and no way to get out of the way in case of an accident--yeah, real smart right:confused3

The also have random lane closures during evening hours. Because it's I 95, there's no real "off time" to go through there, but if you're really tired late at night, be advised, that area can be treacherous......

Off the top of my head I'm going to call it from Mile Marker 60 (but might not be exactly that mile) to Exit 29 (same mileage as the Markers)...

The area can be VERY tight--especially if you're next to a semi...and is prone to "stack up"...really fun to do 75 mph inches away from a concrete jersey barrier with a semi less than a foot to the side, and another one filling up the rear view mirror...I mean, I've always wanted to run 3 wide at Daytona, but that's ridiculous...

Once your clear of Brunswick (Exit 29), it's smooth sailing to Orlando (Until I 4 just outside of Orlando---but that's a whole nother story.)

You have any idea of your time frame??

South of the Border...:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

As a native South Carolinian, I'm just going to ***cringe*** now....

Don't worry, Pedro feex....:rotfl:

What a week it has been...sheesh

Shari's Dad had open heart on Monday and is doing well and then this morning my Dad had a small stroke. He is regaining his speech and things so whatever deficits he had seem to be deminishing now. Uuugh! I just needed to tell somebody!

Steve: It sounds like you've had your share of it this week! Things can only get better, especially in 28 days or so. My MIL has had several of those mini-strokes and she has come through them very well each time. My Dad had a few open-heart surgeries while he was still with us; it was amazing how much the procedures and recoveries changed from his first one to his last! I hope the next 28 days go well for you and your loved ones.
See you at WDW! :cool1:

We usually leave MD around 5am and arrive in Orlando around 10pm, so it's probably late afternoon/early evening when we're going through that area.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all off the Dads that are having medical issues in their families. It's a very emotionally draining situation to go through.
So, allow me to tell the story of my mom's battle with breast cancer. Believe it or not, it's lighthearted and I hope that someone can draw inspiration or hope (or at least a chuckle) from it.
I grew up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin. To this day, I still joke that my mom gave birth to me in the barn, set me down on a bale of hay, and kept milking the cows. She is up at 4am every day - whether it's 20 below or 90° and humid - and milking the cows, cleaning the barn, birthing calves - not to mention raising 5 kids and seeing all of them earn at least an Associates Degree. When my father died when I was 14, she just took on more responsibility around the farm and never missed a beat. Needless to say, she's a tough old farm gal.
The spring of 1998 was my freshman year in college. Like a good son, I called my mom at least once a week. She would catch me up on everything that was going on back in the hometown, around the farm, the local gossip, etc. And then, right at the end of one of our chats, she says (and I remember this very vividly) "Oh yeah, and next week they're gonna cut my **** off."
I'm not sure how any of you would handle that statement, and to be honest with you, I don't recall how I did either. I'm sure stunned silence was involved. She went on to tell me that that she found a lump and was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was 59 at the time, and being a working woman, didn't have time (or patience) for chemo or radiation or any other treatments. (You ever try asking a cow for FMLA leave? They just stare back at you with a dumb look on their face.)
She decided that she didn't need it any more, so just cut the darn thing off. If I recall correctly, she was laid up for about 2 weeks, but back milking and doing the chores before her doctor gave her the OK.

Like I said, the sad truth is that every family will have to deal with complex and emotional medical issues and decisions. My family just does it in our own unique way.

Hey, that's nice ~ since you'll be there for a Wednesday evening, you should try to get up to POR to see Bob "The Piano Man" Jackson! He is great family entertainment and he really gets the kids going. He starts around 8:30 PM and runs 'til midnight or so. We're planning to be there Wednesday night after AK and dinner at Boma. If you make it, grab a nacho platter and something to drink and enjoy the show!

That sounds like fun. We are doing the HDDR at 7:15... don't know if we are driving ourselves or taking Disney Transportation. But if we drive we could stop by and check it out.

Guys,

Just to pile on what a lot of our comrades have already said...

For those of you going through tough times, personal and medical, with your families, you are in my thoughts and prayers.....really, it's good to have a group to vent to about this kinda stuff....I've learned the hard way that momma bear ain't one to tangle with...so bring it on:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

You getting one black market over in Iraq? Back during the first gulf war, Friend "A" gave his almost new 50" projection TV to Friend "B" to use while "A" was deployed. After a few months of being over there, "A" called "B" and told him to keep it. He was coming home with a much nicer 65" for a few hundred bucks!

:lmao::thumbsup2 shes cracken already fed. by december she will have a new gt500 in the drive way for you! :lmao:

sorry poopachino, no time for stoppin for meals for us. subs in the cooler and cracker barrel when we hit s.carolina for over night. on the way home, we hit the drive thru for break and sup. we have snacks and a cooler in the van.

Ditto. :3dglasses Year before last, we took a picnic and stopped at a rest stop along the way. This gave the girls some time to work off a little energy running around in the grass.

Last year we went with friends and made it a two day drive (starting after work on a Friday, stayed in Georgia, arrived around noon on Saturday.) Our only stop to eat was around the hotel that night and breakfast in the hotel the next morning.

Lucky for me, DW likes to just get there as fast as possible too! :drive: Although, she does like a good Cracker Barrel Store. If it weren't for the kids and gas, we might just cross our legs and ROLL! :rotfl:

We learned a hard lesson one time to not have some sort of snacks stashed in a backpack or something. On the way home from Hawaii wife wanted to get a bite to eat...but....I thought we were running late and I said..lets just wait until we get to the airport...(Famous last words at our house now). Did I mention this was our honeymoon? Anyway, when we got to Kahalui airport and in our terminal...there was NOTHING to eat!! When we boareded the plain i knew we would get something to eat once in the air...well...we were delayed on the runway for 4 hours due to a mechanical malfunction and they would not let us off the plain and nothing was being served...needless to say...I have been reminded of the words...(Let's just wait until we get to the airport) many many many man many did I say many? time!:confused3

It is about a 13-4 hour trip for us. I love to drive, although I get to sport a cool mini-van these days. I want to paint it orange and put an 01 on the doors to make it a little more tolerable. Still, we leave in the evening and I drive all night. DW and DDs (7,5) usually sleep most of the night, except to stop and pee when the van runs out of gas. I bring snacks as well, but there is nothing like 2 AM gas station coffee and a chocolate candy bar to give you energy. The only expense I have along the way is for coffee (other than gas).

when dd was little, we would leave around 5pm, drive all night and get there in the morning. the only problem was dd was ready to go (she slept all night) and we were dragging. now we do two days on the way down and one day home. dw lost her vision in her left eye so she only drives when she has to. on the way home, she drive s.carolina and i drive all the other states. i never flew to wdw in all these years. when i was a kid 8-9 years old, the south had self service gas stations, my dad would let me hold the handle to pump gas. i thought it was the coolest thing in the world. the old 76 truck stops. i remember more of the drives down and back than i do in the parks!:lmao: the drive is just fun for us.
