Went for my bloodwork this morning at 8:00am, so I was up early. I walked home from the medical buiding (took a cab there) and felt really good about it, took me about 45 minutes.

Did my cardio this afternoon, and want to share this recipe which I had for dinner.

First I cooked 1/2 cup of brown rice and split it in 2, (1/4 for tomorrow, 1/4 for today)

In a frypan I saute'd red onion, celery, red pepper, green pepper, yellow pepper, thin carrot slices, then added mushrooms, diced cherry tomatoes and green onion. Then I diced up a boneless/skinless chicken breast and added that to the veggies with 2 tablespoons of hot salsa,

when the chicken was cooked I added the rice and a generous sprinkle of Mrs. Dash. Covered it and let sit for 10 minutes, it was absolutely delicious, very filling and satisfying (assuming I won't be hungry in an hour)

This sounds delicious! I'm going to pick up some peppers and try this one soon!

Best of luck with your blood work results. It sounds like you are on track and doing well. Good job on the exercise too.

How is everyone doing? OP you have not posted for a while :(

I have lost 10.5 pounds  doing my cardio everyday, sticking to my diet, I had one day where I crashed and burned, it was a really stressful day at the office and then at home with my DD and I lost it and stared eating crap - it was stupid and that night I felt so sick. I think it was a good lesson for me and incentive to stay on the right path. The enjoyment of the food was not worth how I felt later.

My numbers are pretty good now, only spiking in the morning and sometimes after a meal with fruit. I had a bunch of bloodwork last week and go for the results on Wed.

Yes, it's always the same old promblem with me, diet and exercise. As hard as I try it is impossible for me to be 100% on target. I have to keep motivating myself. I go for my checkup in July. So far my numbers are normal but I have to really watch it.

Keep up the good work Cass! You are motivating me with your 10.5 weight loss! I'm on my way to exercise now! Let us know how your blood test turns out.

Hi Mrs.Milo :)

My bloodwork was all good, cholestrol, liver enzymes, calcium, blood sugar is down, A1C was still the same. The doctor was happy with everything - will see me in August for more bloodwork.

I have a question. Should you be eating even if you are not hungry, but it has been too long since your last meal, but feel just fine? I can't check my sugar ATM....

Hi PD, if you are borderline and not a full blown diabetic, I would say no, don't eat if you are not hungry. If your sugar is fine don't worry about it.

HOw is it going? how are your blood glucose levels? are you taking metformin or anything?

Good luck!

Well I tested at 124. The Dr. said I could wait til coming back from vacation before testing. I am taking a version of metaformin - begins with a "G". but also says metaformin on the bottle.

But I haven't eaten in 12 hours... I fogot dinner for work and then it got to busy to go out and eat.....

Thanks for the GL wishes.

One poster was talking about feeling guilty about eating "bad" food. After you get into a good eating pattern isnt it funny how the "Bad" food really doesnt taste good anymore? I have been very careful the last week trying to get back in the habit of good eating and have done very well watching my carbs and avoiding certain foods. Then today I had a soda which I havent had since starting back and it was like....yuck! :lmao:

Good luck to all posters! It takes a lot of diligence! Keep up the good work.:woohoo:

PD, so 124 was your fasting blood sugar level at your blood test?

The people that really have to be concerned are the ones with low BG, if they don't eat regularily their levels can drop dangerously low and put them in a severe & life threatening situation.

Although you need to start eating differently, in types of foods and at more regular times - it sounds like you are okay (lucky to be borderline) - diabetes gets worse with age etc... you have a chance to get it under control and prevent it from escalating, it's really a good thing :)

Swimnoid! I was tempted by my husband's nuts last week (Roasted Cashews) he got a big tub for Father's Day and I craved them like crazy, finally I broke downand had a handful (20 grams of fat and WAY too much salt) and I felt like crap afterwards, it wasn't even enjoyable eating them. I learned a lesson.

I looked this thread up tonight so I could ask how you're all doing, and get a little input. After a year of monitoring my BS, and with a A1C of 6.4 my Dr decided to put me on metformin, 500mg 2 times daily. I will admit I wasn't always careful about what I was eating, and with foot surgery in January I didn't exercise for about 3 -4 months of that time. Anyway, I'm trying but as you all know every day is a challenge. I am back to regular exercise, about 30 minutes at least 5 days a week. Again, my BS is best when I eat fish and work out. At least during the summer swimming is a fun way to exercise and I go with my DGK's. And the metformin seems to keep my BS from spiking as high as it did before taking it, when I go off program. I am resolved to loose 30-40 pounds in the next 6 months to see if I can get off drugs, I really don't want to HAVE to, ya know?
(I have a question for the ladies only. Is metformin a hormone, because my chest has enlarged since I started taking it? !!!! Anyone else? Because I'm a couple years past menopause and that's the only thing I know of that's different.) Anyone out there?

Hi there, I've been on metformin since May and my chest is as small as ever!!

I wish it would enlarge but no such luck!

I don't think it has hormones in it, but it can affect hormones - so it is possible. Some people do gain weight on it and some women have screwy periods because of it.

good luck with you weight loss, I've lost 35 lbs since May and I'm feeling great. Keep up with your exercise, try to eat real food, nothing processed like lean cuisines, watch the salt intake and of course sugar & fat. Keep moving, stay positive and you'll have positive results :)

I actually PUT ON 5 pounds this week... but I am not eating more, IMO... However my exercise program has stepped up IMMENSELY... I now do an hour of fairly intense - considering my heart attack - exercise 4x a week... I walk away bathed in sweat.

Nevermind.
Good morning everyone. Feeling good here. Doing what I need to do and then some. It's a beautiful day!
Regarding the chest size/hormone question. I WAS on Actos which restimulated my hormones and cause me to ovulate after being post menopausal for 10 years. They told me it was possible to get pregnant while taking it despite my postmenopause diagnosis. I'm now on Metformin because Actos also caused a big weight gain(no good) and severe fluid retention. I was told by my doctor and my pharmacist that Metformin did not have those kinds of side effects. They don't always get it right, do they? Could it be your exersize?
