LittleDino, are you talking about regular pasta or whole wheat?

Both. :) Even though whole wheat pasta may have less carbs, it still digests at the same slow rate as regular white pasta... sometimes even slower. Just like whole wheat bread digests more slowly than white bread - although the rate of bread digestion is still quick enough that you don't need to take insulin any later.

Lisa D, the square wave bolus is GREAT for grazers... and it is meant just for that! Although, I'm too lazy to set it... when I graze I usually just bolus up front for everything, and if I believe I've eaten more than what I've bolused for, I just give myself a 2nd bolus to compensate.

Even brown rice?

I haven't tried it since being diagnosed.

DW said she found some new whole wheat rotini for us to try tonight. I'm psyched! I went and walked three miles after lunch so I would be ready. :rotfl2:

Boy oh boy, this disease really affects your whole life :( I appreciate you all being here during my adjustment period - I'm on Day 11.

My numbers are still looking good, 3 hours after lunch I was 108, :) (wish that was my weight :lmao: )

Only a fellow diabetic could appreciate doing a spontaneous celebration when seeing a good number on a glucose meter. Congrats!

Looks like the Metformin is working Cass! Yeah! I do eat brown rice most every week. It makes a perfect protein with baked beans. I'm not sure if it's good for everyone though because so far I am only pre diabetes. I've read that metformin can delay full blow type 2 diabetes. So far, so good...

Brown rice usually works well for DS, plus it is pretty easy to gauge what 1/2 cup looks like. Pasta and dessert usually get him in trouble. OMG, yesterday was my younger son's b-day which we celebrated at Bennigan's. Needless to say Jimmy's sugar was through the roof this morning. We'll hold off on big desserts until his birthday the end of June.

Hi everyone, I had eggbeaters and whole wheat toast tonight and it was very good. Never tried eggbeaters before, but they tasted just like scrambled eggs to me.

Anyone else eat them?

I haven't tried eggbeaters yet. Love whole wheat toast though! Isn't it funny how we love our foods?! Tonight I had grilled chicken and salad with Marie's dressing.

I think you're going to be really slim quick Cass with this new diet. You seem to be doing well with your meals. Hopefully it will seem like second nature soon.

Thanks Muffy, I'm just happy my numbers are down now since I started the metforim, I'm alot calmer now lol

What is Marie's dressing, is it good?

I never have tried the eggbeaters. I'll have to give them a try

Cherries are back in season:dance3: I was so excited to see cherries in my food ads this week, I had to stop at the store on the way home tonight. It's the fruit with the best glycemic index, and I can eat a bunch and it doesn't affect my BS at all, and it's my favorite!

I had slacked off cardio yesterday, but was proud of myself for doing 3 miles this morning. It is so easy for me to not have my "eyes on the prize".

Ooh I've been waiting for that! I love cherries!

Eggbeaters are pretty easy to work with. The trick is not to overcook them. Keep the heat low and take them off the heat when they're still just a bit shiny/wet looking.

They're also great for baking. I've never been able to tell a difference.

Oh, I'll have to look for that Southwest variety, the only problem is they have to be used within 7 days once opened, and I only feel like eggs once a week. Such a waste to to throw it out unless I figure out another way to use it.

Way to go ZippaDD :)

On Monday I have to go to a function at my husband's golf club. It's a set dinner menu so I called to tell them I was diabetic and needed some changes... they called me and said the salad dressing was made with a raisin reduction and honey - I said, 'no' and she started arguing with me that Diabetics can eat honey, finally she agreed to find a low fat dressing for me.

Dinner is steak or salmon, I don't do fish so I'll have the steak, it was supposed to come with some wonderful stuff, but I'm having steamed veggies and a small baked potato. Dessert is a fresh fruit plate.

I'm self conscious about being served different items then the other 23 people at this dinner.

Cass, I'm sure the dinner will be fine. So many people have restricted diets that no one blinks an eye. Good for you to demand a low fat salad dressing. I'm not quite as strict as I should be.... Marie's is a regular dressing but I did go light with it...

You guys are Awesome! Keep up the work as I know how hard it is living with DM. I like to suggest to help all of you to buy the Calorie King guide book, which helps with counting those carbs, and gives great info on many restaraunts, like McDonalds, etc.

There really are some good resources out ther to help you figure out what makes sense when you eat out. I find that info to be invaluable.
