I posted a few days ago regarding having to take Kirsten to a pediatric eye doctor...well, she has very poor vision in one eye plus "lazy eye" This requires patching for 4 hours per day. Since taking this picture, things have gone steadily down hill...the adhesive on the patch bothers her skin, she has been crying for 2 hours. Does anyone have any suggestions? I tried a "pirates patch" which was way too big for her. :(

So I have awesome news!!

As you can see I am training for the 1/2 marathon next year - DH has agreed to go - he might train - not sure if we are taking the kids or not

My MIL told me yesterday that she is getting ready to book us on the April 28 2007 Magic

and we are going in December 2007

so the other night I said to DH - we should think about getting an AP - he said - there is no thinking about it - that is a no brianer!!!

No wonder I love him so much!!!!

That is wonderful news!!! I wish my dh liked Disney. Oh well, I still get us there every couple of years.

Now you have a magical year of trips to look forward to!

Nope- I've been doing it too!! I am still a week or so off from being able to book airfare so I have been using "dummy' dates to get an idea for price!

What dates are you going? Can't remember if I asked you or not...are you in Chicago of the burbs?

Kristine, there's hope - call your pediatric doctor's office and ask them!! Tell them what you've posted - I know there are soft sided 'skins' available - I'll start looking!!

I have a friend that went thru this!! I remember the postings, the websites....

Check this website out: http://www.preventblindness.org/children/EyePatchClub.html

If you click "Make Patch Time Count" or "Tips for Increasing Patch Compliance", you'll find another link to "Eye Patch Choices." There are links to sites with non-adhesive patches. Can you sew? Maybe you could make one.

Happy Monday everyone!!!!!

The past week has been very stressful for me in so many ways. Thank you to everyone who has sent me PM's, I have missed you all too!!

I spent the beginning of last week stressing over the boards and then I was so energized by the new thread and things seemed like old times but then I got a big old slap in the face that maybe they weren't. On top of that my kids were both about as sick as they could be and neither one is 100% yet.

I am so mentally and physically exhausted that I really needed to take some time for myself and think about things. I am hoping things are on the upswing here and at home!!!

I hope you all like the new logo - here are detailed directions to get them in your signature:

To add it to your siggie - copy the text and then choose user cp;edit signature and then paste the text into your signature - delete the ? after the [img] and save changes

I also get them. I used to get really bad ones on my lips too. I've had it for as long as I can remember and the sores seem much smaller then they used to be. Now I generally get them inside my nose which is very uncomfortable, but they are not noticable. We have the prescription Zoviraz, but it doesn't help. He also uses the Herpicin chap stick. Unfortunately it just needs to run it's course at this point. Thanks for your suggestions. I wish they would come out with a miracle drug.

Deb

Have you tried Lysine (it's an amino acid)? It works wonders for cold sores. My daughter used to be plagued by them.

Hi Kids!! Have you all been playing nicely in the playground??? We had an eventful weekend - its funny now, but wasn't then.

The readers digest version: Matt had a playdate on Friday and he is allowed to have the friend stay for dinner. So I put in some chicken nuggets and fries (Pay attention here - I don't cook). I go to take them out, of course I didn't use an oven mitt but used my sweatshirt instead (first mistake). I burned my hand and dropped the chicken. That proceeds to fall back into the oven, starting a small fire on the oven coils. I scream bloody murder for Skunka, who comes racing down the stairs, missing a stair and falling the rest of the way. So now I'm burned and his back is out. Needless to say, we had an eventful weekend!!! We need a break!

So send skunka some love - his back is a little better, but he's not himself. I can't wait to go away in a couple of weeks... we need some R&R!!

Here's hoping everyone heals quickly :wizard: , so you can enjoy your upcoming trip!

This doctor is big on these Ortopads...which is bacically a big band-aid. Hasn't offered any other solutions...very frustrating and sad.

How awesome is that?!!! I know we had AP's one year, and it encouraged us to take even more trips than originally planned. We wound up visiting 4 times within our AP year. Once you have it, you can justify the extra trips by the "economic wisdom" of getting more use out of the AP. Congrats.

Check out the websites that was posted above - I've asked my friend, but probably wont hear from her for awhile, I know she got them off a website, they were $10, and it looks like some great choices were listed (edited to add it was bethbuchell that posted the link!! Great find!!)

http://www.preventblindness.org/children/patch_choices.html

The adhesive being irratating is quite common, so it surprises me a doctor wouldnt have an alternative, or at least discuss it!! We have 'paper' tape for that reason (DD9 stubbed her toe so bad, she finally 'lost' it, and new growth, but 3 months of adhesive wasnt an option!!)

Good luck!! and I've been to Park Ridge!! The theatre, and I think there is an ice rink nearby!! (ds' used to play hockey!!)

We stayed at POR back when it was Dixie Landings. We're looking at it for our August 2006 trip. Anything I should know? Do you think it will be way, way, way too tight with dh, ds14, dd13, ds6, and me?

My mom and dad have given us their timeshare (Marriott Grande Vista) for a week in August. I want to extend the trip, but I'm having trouble convincing dh. POR is the most affordable option for us, and we don't spend that much time in the room.

Beth

We stayed in the mansions when we went, not the Bayou where the trundle beds are... But if you only plan on sleeping there it shouldn't be too bad. DS6 would be on the trundle cuz I hear they are pretty small. The beds are doubles, not queens. There are 2 pedstal sinks in the changing area with a long shelf that runs above them. The toilet and the tub/shower is in its own room. The changing area is separated from the boedroom by a curtain, but it did an OK job keeping the light out. There wasn't a lot of drawer space (I think 4 in the TV armoire) but the closet in the changing area held a lot of stuff. There is a small fridge in the room (think dorm sized) a table with 2 chairs and a bench with another shelf and coat hooks above the bench.

Prior to this trip we only ever stayed deluxe. We weren't that thrilled with the Beach Club on our last trip so we decided to give POR a chance. We loved the place! On the mansion side the grounds are just beautiful, so I didn't mind the walk to the room. We were in Oak Manor which was pretty close to the main building anyway. The pool was nice with waterfalls and a slide, there's a bar out there too if you are so inclined ;) We had very good bus service (never more than 10 minutes and almost always got to sit -or at least one of us holding DS2 did)

We ate at Boatwrights a couple of times for breakfast and really liked it- big portions and not very expensive by WDW standards. Our only experience with the food court was for lunch they day we arrived and the day we left and that was like a ghost town- but overall the food wasn't too bad and there was a lot of variety.

They have horse drawn carriage rides in the evenings, the boat to DTD at night is very cool! Even if you don't want to shop, take it down there and go to Ghiradellis! :goodvibes

You can rent a boat or water sprite at the Marina. DH said Bob Jackson at the Piano Bar is VERY funny!

Some of the workers at the front desk are dumb as rocks (especially the night shift) but some are fantastic. Still, everyone was very friendly (even in the food court).

I know, this is A LOT of information, but I really, really can't say enough good things about this resort!

:worship: Thank you so much for this link!! I think I am going to order one of the products shown...I may just patch the lens in the meantime. The doc didn't like this because it didn't block peripheral vision...but I need to find something workable since it's 4 hours a day. Thank you again!

Interesting idea... how much is an AP and is it for a calendar year or 12 months from when you buy it....

We stayed in the Mansions in October as well at POR, it looked like the Bayou section was closer to the bus stop!! And the pool has a slide so your kids will love that!! There are 2 double beds, and in the bayou section a small trundle bed, are your kids good at sharing the beds? (I have 2 boys, one always took turns sleeping on the floor -not into sharing :rotfl: )

I found it to be quite pleasant, we were farther away from the food court so we didnt buy the mugs, didnt really use them since we didnt stay at the pool (dd had a toe issue!!) My trip was so very stressful, and hectic, I cant say we took time to "enjoy" and "smell" the roses, it was always rush rush rush!! We did love the dining plan, I went to the breakfast place, loaded up and took it back on a tray, we kept drinks in the room... The horses and the boats did give it quite a nice atmosphere - I didnt have any issues with the CMS, other than the key cards not "charging" to open the door!!

I found it quite a pleasant, and quiet atmosphere, even with it completely sold out!! Our last stay was at the Polynesian, we took advantage of the pool and the mugs there!! (dfinately found time to "smell the roses" that trip!!)
