I would be willing to follow this thread anywhere.

I thought long and hard about posting this but here goes.
***************If you do not want to bring up a lot of bad memories in your own life then do not read any further.

I had wanted to tell everyone that my wish for the new year was that everyone would have a safe year, filled with rich memories, good times, and be able to get over the occasional bump in the road new year.

But I also know that there are some of us that are having trouble with holidays because someone we have loved dearly has left this world. Each holiday is hard because you remember the special times that you had with that person and it is hard to look past the sad times.
Why we get thru some years easier than others I cannot even to begin to wonder or explain why. But then you get a special note or picture from someone connected to the loved one and it takes you right back to the DAY.

Thirteen years ago my DH's brother was taken away before his time. The first year after was the worst. No one celebrated any holiday. We were like robots. I had a stair stepper in the living room and when my DD asked if i was going to set up a tree, I told her no. She got really mad and i put the presents around the stair stepper and strung tinsel all over it. But in my mind that was all I could do at the time and no one else in the family had a tree so why should I?

He had moved to California and set up a landscaping business and found the mate of his life and they married and everything was so perfect for them. Since this family keeps in touch, he made a video and sent it home for all of us and of course we responded with our own sense of very dry humor. our own version of Brad the landscaper dealing with workers he had picked off the side of the road, hunting from the back deck. the top ten reasons for not using the BIG movie light for taking movies of the family and on and on. Plus every so often he came back to visit because to him, family was so very important

The night of Jan 3, 1993, a Sunday night, we got a call that Brad and Stephanie were expecting their first child. I cannot even begin to tell you the excitement every family member was feeling. Our kids will tell you about Uncle Brad singing Black Bird on his guitar and how they could not wait till he did this with his own child. (My DD had this played at her wedding while my DH and she danced the first dance) not a dry eye in the place.

The next day we got the call that he was dead. Weird thing, he was repairing a brick wall of damage from 30 days before and some idiot that had just been released from the hospital for chest pains was out driving and passed out, went over the median and hit Brad and killed him almost instantly. There was concern whether we would be able to have a viewing because of that kind of injury. (Some of us were in the mindset that we would see him no matter what)

The funeral was just unbelievable. The procession from the church to the cemetary was about a mile long of cars. It was so comforting to all of us. Because of their excitement, they had sent another tape and that arrived two days after he was killed. We could not watch that tape for about 6 months. Funny thing tho, three days after, we all sat around and watched him when he was on The Price Is Right. To hear "Bradley Hartman, come on down!!!!" again was so touching. Afterwards, we all looked at each other with smiles on our faces and someone in the room piped up "Brad still didnt win the Showcase Showdown!!!

Well Jacob was born 8 months later and he is just the light of the family. His Mom comes to visit and he really is coming into his own. He was ring bearer at my DD's wedding on 5/11/02 and if things had been different on 9/15/01 he would have been the same for my DS. In fact his Mom remarried and Jake has a brother and sister. We got his picture this Christmas and this is what stirred my emotions upside down. he looks so very much like his dad.

Love your family and love your life. It comes and goes so very fast. Time is very unforgiving.

Terry

Terry, thanks for the reminder. It is so important to keep those we love close in our thoughts and hearts. I'm so sorry that you had to go through this.

Well, it's always been intriguing, but since DL's easier for us to get to, it might help. LOL

I believe they dropped some of the point values for DL (said it was for the 50th, but I wonder if they won't stay where they are).

Just another argument for DVC. If you can't get to WDW, you can always use pts. at DL.

About 20, but not all Disney. Her big Chrsitmas gift was dress up clothes so I hit all of the after Halloween clearance sales to stock up. They were wrapped in two boxes and she insisted on tryong on every outfit before opening the next gift. The cutest ones were the Minnie, Buzz Lightyear and this great pirate costume I got from Spirit Halloween store. It took 1 1/2 hours for the 3 if us to open just the gifts from each other with all of the costume changes.

Tia--

Cassidy came by just as I was looking at the pictures and asked who the cute redheads were espescially the little one. Those were great pic's....I of course was a dork and also thought you would look like the princesses.

Me please! I LOVE salmon.

Enough people wanted this recipe, so I'm posting it here.

2 Tbs. brown sugar, not packed
3 Tbs. vegetable oil
3 Tbs. soy sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 Tbs. grated fresh gingerroot
4 salmon fillets

In a shallow baking dish, combine brown sugar, oil, soy sauce, garlic and ginger. Place salmon fillets in baking dish. Turn fish over several times to coat and refrigerate for as long as you can (I try to do this for at least 3 hours, turning the fish every half hour). Preheat broiler. Remove fish from marinade. Place fish on a piece of foil on a broiler tray, rutning once during cooking, about 6 minutes per inch of thickness and at about 6 inches away from the heat. Do not over cook and watch your fish like a hawk!

Very yummy! I hope you all enjoy it!

Ooohhh.....I feel like I have been knighted by the Queen. :goodvibes But can a female be knighted? Oh, Clare...what would you call this????

Yes, women can be knighted. They are called "Dames." Very cool, I think!

Gotta get the kids on the bus, then it's off to bowling league for me. Too bad I'm a lousy bowler. Oh well. I still have fun!

Ok, now I'm hungry. Is it lunch yet?

Can I use dried ginger? I hate buying fresh stuff because I never use it again.

"If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands..."

I know this one!

If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands.
If you're happy and you know it, your face will surely show it.
If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands.

If you're happy and you know it, stomp your feet.
If you're happy and you know it, stomp your feet.
If you're happy and you know it, your face will surely show it.
If you're happy and you know it, stomp your feet.

If you're happy and you know it, shout hooray.
If you're happy and you know it, shout hooray.
If you're happy and you know it, your face will surely show it.
If you're happy and you know it, shout hooray.

If you're happy and you know it, do all three.
If you're happy and you know it, do all three.
If you're happy and you know it, your face will surely show it.
If you're happy and you know it, do all three.

Though someone probably already beat me to it!

I made my DVC ressies! Yay for me! Oct. 18-22 at SSR in a studio. I will call back on March 19 and start making ressies for BWV or BCV, if they have room. Or should I just wait until the March 22 when I can make ressies in their entirety.

This DVC stuff is confusing. I'm sure I had the CM aggravated when I couldn't decide to use my pts for this yr, which need to be banked by Jan. 31. We got a use yr of August. So, I had her bank my 200 pts. Then in Aug. we will get another 200 pts. This trip will cost 64 pts. Then I will have 336 pts. left. Did I do the right thing?

Seems like I have a lot of pts. I need to plan another trip on top of this one. Who wants to go somewhere?

Keep the ressie yuou have for SSR now- it was good that you went ahead and made them. Oct. is a really busy month for DVC! Then call in March to make your changes if you can.

As for the points- I probably would've used this years points for the ressie. Just make sure you use all those banked points by the end of the use year they've been banked into, or you'll lose them. In the manual it says that banked points cannot be transferred, or borrowed, so make sure you have a time to use them all in that use year.

Did you get a Vacation Planner yet? Info about Banking POints is in the back.

The method to our County madness:

high school starts 7:30am and out by 2:00pm for after school jobs

elementary school starts 8:15am and out by 2:45pm since most parents stay home or at home with their kids at this age

middle school starts at 9:15am and out by 4pm since those are most likely the "latch key kids".....the ones that stay at home by themselves.

Makes since......I guess.

Lynn

I love your school schedule. All of our schools start and stop within 10-15 minutes of each other. Mine do not ride a bus but they do not have different buses for them they all ride the same bus.

Thanks for the sharing such a delicate , personal story so we can be reminded of the importance of our loved ones. Sometimes it's easy to forget and take advantage. I will take this story with me in my heart today.

Thanks for the insight. The CM recommended banking them, since I needed to do it by Jan. 31 anyway, and then if I decide I want to use anything else this year, I could just borrow from 2006? Is that correct?

Yes, the package and everything came 2 nights ago, but I have not been able to read through it all yet. Saving it for the weekend. But I wanted to get my ressies made. I didn't know I was going to have to make all these decisions when I called.

I had to check-in real quick and say HI!!! This place is to addicting.
