GOOD MORNING DDA'ers!!! Just thought I would check in with ya'll while Alex was having his breakfast. Almost one down and one more to go. Can you believe that Elementary School (K-5) buses run at 7:35 and the Middle School (6-8) run at 8:35. It is hard to get an 8yr old up at 6:45 every morning. He loves football so atleast the bowl games are over so he is getting to bed by 9pm now. Before he would stay awake until atleast half time. The highschool bus (9-12) even runs earlier.....I think I hear it around 6:45am.

Lynn

Good morning!

It's the opposite here. Laura (dd in middle school) has to be at the bus stop just before 7:00 (school starts at 7:30), Matthew (high school) has to be at the bus stop at 7:30 (school starts at 8:00), and Miles (elementary) doesn't leave until 8:45 (school starts at 8:50, but it's right behind our house).

So at the moment I have two down and one still asleep! :rotfl:

The method to our County madness:

high school starts 7:30am and out by 2:00pm for after school jobs

elementary school starts 8:15am and out by 2:45pm since most parents stay home or at home with their kids at this age

middle school starts at 9:15am and out by 4pm since those are most likely the "latch key kids".....the ones that stay at home by themselves.

Makes since......I guess.

Hi Terry,

I have an ornament on my tree each year that reminds me of my dad. He was only 56 when he died of cancer. I can't remember the exact saying but something like.................."don't shed a tear, I am spending my Christmas with Jesus this year"
My cousin bought it for me for Christmas in 1998 when he passed away. It is one of my favorites. Only Austin remembers PawPaw so he always likes to be the one to hang it on the tree.

That does make sense. Our high school used to start earlier, but then that study came out that showed high schoolers need more sleep in the am. Some parents made a big stink, and they changed it. Mine were still in early elementary school then, so I didn't pay a lot of attention to it. The tough part is that even though my high schooler starts before my elementary schooler, he gets home later (slightly longer class day coupled with bus ride). Of course during their sports' seasons, both the older ones get home after the elementary school lets out. There are times that I would like the oldest one home first to get the youngest from school for me.

OK.....I have had my mini-posting frenzie. I need to start getting ready for work so when Austin gets on the bus I am pulling out of the driveway.

Bye for now.....Lynn

We have that same situation. Most of the time DH is off work and home by 3:30 when DS gets off the bus. But if not then he lets himself in, locks the doors and waits for my phonecall. My older DS gets off the bus about 1 hour later. That will probably only happen maybe 1 or 2 days a week but it still makes me nervous. My husband and I are both really blessed in working only 5 - 7 minutes from home and my mom (MawMaw) lives about 7 houses down the street. That makes me feel better that we are all close by.

.....ok....now I really, really need to get ready for work.

Good morning everyone! I want to thank all of you who sent birthday wishes to my son Jake yesterday. He got the biggest smile on his face when he saw his name. "Mom, I'm on the internet!" is what he said. Then he kind of giggled and got that "teased" look on his face while he blushed. You really helped make his birthday, buy just a simple sentence. Thank you!

So I attempted to post this like 30 times last night but the server kept having an error. So I stopped attempting to post this. I knew it wasn't going to get posted for awhile since I worked 11 hours today. I have a job interview tomorrow afternoon with an organization that provides supportive living services for families. Please wish me luck.

Right now I am working a retail job. The company's great but I don't want to work retail forever. Its a full time but now I am getting an 11 hour day a week, 3- 8 hour days and then a 5 hour day a week. The 11 hour day I am there all day by myself. In order to use the restroom I must lock up and walk down the hallway. Plus now some weeks my hours are being cut back, I am still full time but there are not enough hours anymore to have 40 hours a week and I am paid hourly.

Plus I am getting sick. I have lucked out so far. But I think my turn to be sick is here. So pixie dust and well wishes would be appreciated. Thank you

Becky
Hope you are feeling better, Becky! :wizard:

Terry -- what an incredibly moving post and a great reminder to always let your friends and family know how much they mean to you.

Thanks to all my friends in this thread. Hakuna Matata is my new mantra. (Now if I can live it instead of just repeating it!)

Good day everyone!

Hi, all. I will try to read and catch up tomorrow. Had to go to work today for a long meeting. We have our winter carnival in 2 weeks, and I teach tomorrow and this weekend. We're having the kids CHRISTMAS parties tomorrow (yes, you read correctly). School was closed due to the ice storm, so they missed them. Wearing our Christmas finery one more time. Even Santa will be there, just hope the kids don't ask for more gifts!

I'm completely wiped after the past few days. Headed to bed now for some good sleep. Glad we're all here in our happy home. Hugs to you all. You know I love you.

Denise
Don't get yourself run down Denise or you will end up sick again. Have fun!

Nancy asked for a recipe I have for teriyaki salmon. Does anyone else want it? If not, I'll PM it to her. If enough people want it, I'll just post it here. It's TO DIE for!
Me please! I LOVE salmon.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. From what I understand they are going to try and give Mya an oral medication for this so that her brain doesn't misfire. Once they know the correct dosage for that then they will go back to the Botox injections in her legs to loosen the spacisity. What we hope this will do is give her the confidence to walk on her own. She has taken a few steps, but nothing that will get her very far.

On a positive note, if buying DVC what do y'all think of buying from The Timeshare Store instead of Disney Direct?
Mac - I'm so sorry to hear of this. You all are in my prayers. Just remember, every one of us started with a few steps. Hopefully, she will continue to improve.

On the DVC note, there are several threads over on the DVC forum regarding resale vs. Disney. Read through those and you will get a lot of opinions. I'm sure someone here has already given you their thoughts. Right now I am just catching up, so as I read further, if no one has replied or I have anything to add, I will post again.

Yeah!!, I've read all 50 pages and would like to thank all of you for making this a happy thread to read. I didn't see anything posted negatively, even things that are not positive in life. I'd like to send a good helping of pixie dust to those of you that have received diagnosis for you children with words that are too difficult for adults to handle, for those with children fighting the everyday issues and for those just having a brief run of illness. For those seaking new jobs or just needed a hug. This goes out to all of you. :wizard: :wizard: :grouphug: :grouphug: . My life would not be the same if I didn't have wonderful people like you to share it with.

Well said, Deb. Welcome back.

I would be willing to follow this thread anywhere.

I thought long and hard about posting this but here goes.
***************If you do not want to bring up a lot of bad memories in your own life then do not read any further.

I had wanted to tell everyone that my wish for the new year was that everyone would have a safe year, filled with rich memories, good times, and be able to get over the occasional bump in the road new year.

But I also know that there are some of us that are having trouble with holidays because someone we have loved dearly has left this world. Each holiday is hard because you remember the special times that you had with that person and it is hard to look past the sad times.
Why we get thru some years easier than others I cannot even to begin to wonder or explain why. But then you get a special note or picture from someone connected to the loved one and it takes you right back to the DAY.

Thirteen years ago my DH's brother was taken away before his time. The first year after was the worst. No one celebrated any holiday. We were like robots. I had a stair stepper in the living room and when my DD asked if i was going to set up a tree, I told her no. She got really mad and i put the presents around the stair stepper and strung tinsel all over it. But in my mind that was all I could do at the time and no one else in the family had a tree so why should I?

He had moved to California and set up a landscaping business and found the mate of his life and they married and everything was so perfect for them. Since this family keeps in touch, he made a video and sent it home for all of us and of course we responded with our own sense of very dry humor. our own version of Brad the landscaper dealing with workers he had picked off the side of the road, hunting from the back deck. the top ten reasons for not using the BIG movie light for taking movies of the family and on and on. Plus every so often he came back to visit because to him, family was so very important

The night of Jan 3, 1993, a Sunday night, we got a call that Brad and Stephanie were expecting their first child. I cannot even begin to tell you the excitement every family member was feeling. Our kids will tell you about Uncle Brad singing Black Bird on his guitar and how they could not wait till he did this with his own child. (My DD had this played at her wedding while my DH and she danced the first dance) not a dry eye in the place.

The next day we got the call that he was dead. Weird thing, he was repairing a brick wall of damage from 30 days before and some idiot that had just been released from the hospital for chest pains was out driving and passed out, went over the median and hit Brad and killed him almost instantly. There was concern whether we would be able to have a viewing because of that kind of injury. (Some of us were in the mindset that we would see him no matter what)

The funeral was just unbelievable. The procession from the church to the cemetary was about a mile long of cars. It was so comforting to all of us. Because of their excitement, they had sent another tape and that arrived two days after he was killed. We could not watch that tape for about 6 months. Funny thing tho, three days after, we all sat around and watched him when he was on The Price Is Right. To hear "Bradley Hartman, come on down!!!!" again was so touching. Afterwards, we all looked at each other with smiles on our faces and someone in the room piped up "Brad still didnt win the Showcase Showdown!!!

Well Jacob was born 8 months later and he is just the light of the family. His Mom comes to visit and he really is coming into his own. He was ring bearer at my DD's wedding on 5/11/02 and if things had been different on 9/15/01 he would have been the same for my DS. In fact his Mom remarried and Jake has a brother and sister. We got his picture this Christmas and this is what stirred my emotions upside down. he looks so very much like his dad.

Love your family and love your life. It comes and goes so very fast. Time is very unforgiving.

Terry
I am at a loss for words. What a touching story. :grouphug:

Ok, I'm done now. Good morning everyone. What song are we gonna sing today?
