Before I head to bed, I am hoping that you can spare some prayers and pixie dust for my grandma (Ruth) tomorrow morning. She recently joined Curves. Two weeks ago Saturday she was doing her workout and did something to hurt her back. Thinking it was just strain she took it easy for a week. When it was still sore that Thursday she went to the doctor who sent her to physical therapy. The pt listened to her complaint and said "you know that sounds just like a woman who was here the other day and she actually had a fractured compressed vertebrae. Soo...they do xrays and my grandma has not one, but TWO fractured compressed vertebrae.

So tomorrow morning she is having a procedure done to help the extreme pain she is in. They will insert a needle between the vertebrea and insert a little balloon. The balloon inflates to put the vertebrea back in line and then they inject a concrete like substance that will keep them in place. She has been told that the pain is better almost immediately which should be good.

In addition to this one time, I am concerned about what this all means for the state of her osteoperosis. This is the simplest event that has ended up with a broken bone for her so it doesn't sound good. It is about the 6th broken bone she has had in the last few years.

I tried to keep up with the thread today, taking short cleaning breaks, but at this point my brain is fried, so I'll have to respond tomorrow. Here's a few and lots of until then!

Our meeting with the realtor went well. Our house will officially go on the market tomorrow, so it's going to be a busy weekend of finishing several last minute projects and more cleaning. Luckily, we'll have a nice long break Saturday night when we meet up at Kate's for the cookout! I'm hoping the weather will be like this

Ok, this just reminded me of a funny story. When Alan and I were first married, for Christmas that year we didn't have a lot of money, and I wanted my present to him to be something special and meaningful. His favorite movie of all time is the Sound of Music. So I bought the VHS copy, wrapped it up beautifully and displayed it under the tree. Fast forward to Christmas morning. He opens my present and begins to laugh hysterically. Handing me my present, he tells me to open it. I do, and what do I find? The exact same VHS copy of the Sound of Music. We had a good laugh about that, and it became the family joke for all my siblings.

Well, a couple of years ago, DH opened my Christmas present to him and finds the DVD copy of the Sound of Music. He screams, "NO, NO, NO." I just look at him and shake my head. "You didn't." I say. He begins to laugh. I open my present and find yet another copy of the Sound of Music on DVD.

You two are in lockstep. That's fabulous!!!

Increasing road crossing safety for frogs and turtles

Finding ways to increase safety for frogs and turtles crossing the road, that's what Clarkson University researchers are testing.

A DOT crew will be putting wood and metal barriers near swamps along Route 68 in Canton. They're intended to get the reptiles and amphibians to use a culvert to safely make it across the road during nesting season.

Biology professor Thomas Langen says researchers have found that a large number of frogs and turtles are killed on that stretch of highway. He says it directly impacts the turtle population because most of the killed turtles are females trying to cross the road to lay eggs.

The project received a grant from the State DEC to develop the prototype barriers.

I didn't have time to make a Disney turtle design for you. However, I wanted to show you how important turtles are to my family. This is Katrina's turtle shrine. There is more but I couldn't get it all in the picture.

Oh Vicki we are getting to be more and more alike every time we open our mouths!!

My babies have been begging for a real life turtle FOREVER (okay 5 years) and it's never been the right time until we move this time and they will get their turtle. I don't have the heart to tell em EWWWWW and why I am ewwwwing.

Interestingly Kate is never on when Crush! posts and I know that Marti is away for a few days, but where is Skunka? Hmmmmmm. Crush! are you out there. I see you posted on one other thread today too, but you know way too much about Disney to not be a regular. Anyone else care to venture a guess?

Katrina begged for a real, live turtle for 5 years. We never did get it for her. Her best friend got it for her for her 2 Christmas's ago. She got the fish tank from another friend when he outgrew the one that her best friend bought her. I wasn't going to get it for her because I knew she'd be moving on and I'd end up with it. However, Chuck really enjoys it and doesn't mind taking care of it for her.
