Good thing I'm not going for the decorating prize on these cookies after getting a reminder of what her cookies look like all laid out like that.
I was just trying to see if they worked and how they tasted. I have to say it is the best sugar cookie recipe I've made so far. I used about 1/4 of the dough and got 11 cookies. Very yummy. I cooked them a little too long. My oven must be too hot because I cooked them for the minimum time. I'll turn it down just a little next time.
I only decorated one cookie so I could try it. Becky likes to help with the decorating. I might get some of that fondant and give it a try. Though I'm a traditional frosting person myself. I'm also thinking about getting the decorating tips people use for cakes. One of the DDA (can't remember who right now - must be my age) does some really cool looking cookies with that and I thought I'd give it a try sometime.
Since I was experimenting anyway, I tried something I'd read somewhere. Instead of using flour on the top to help with the stickiness, I put a large piece of waxed paper on top and rolled on that. It worked like a charm. I did put some flour on the bottom but I've never had trouble with that. No sticking for the first time ever - my roller sticking and tearing the dough is my least favorite thing about making sugar cookies.
Thanks for the recipe Amy. I'll be making the rest of them later today and will definitely use this as my sugar cookie recipe now.
Going into the oven - my last cookie is always an odd shape (just can't throw out the dough)
Cooling on the rack
Decorated and ready to be eaten - oops ... too late! It's gone already.
Gotta go do some straightening up since my Mom's coming tonight. I'm also having lunch with my best friends today. Mya comes home with Mom today as well. That is our one year old Cockapoo. We have missed her!!!
