Hi All, let me just start this with a reminder to make sure your FIRE ALARMS are working!

I have not had a good morning & one of the worst scares of my life. Before the boys left for school all of our alarms went off. I thought there was a malfunction or something. Garrett got the alarm upstairs off & I got the one downstairs. We head to the basement to get that alarm & when we open the door, smokes comes rolling out. I know I shouldn't have, but I went down to see what was going on. The water heater was smoking & then it went into flames. Ok I am really in panic mode now & tell the boys to get out. I call 911 & tell them I have a fire in the basement. The lady on the phone tells me to make sure everyone is out of the house, yes they are but I want to go back in because I am in my underwear(I can laugh now). She keeps saying ma'am you must stay outside. Well 3 firetrucks pull up & I run quickly in the house, grab my pants & go back out. As the guys are walking up, I am pulling my pants up. I know that should not have been important to me, but for some reason it was. I knew my boys were safe & Garrett had gotten our cats.

Anyway the wires on the water heater went wonky & caught the insulation on fire. They got it put out & brought a machine in to get the smoke out. Other than needing a new water heater & the basement smelling horrible, my family & home are ok.

My mind is still reeling & I feel like I am in a fog. This was very scary & my nerves are shot! I thank god that I was home & that our fire alarms are connected to where when one goes off, they all go off. If no one had been home, we probably would not have a home right now. I am also thankful that my family was safe, I have to many what ifs right now & I need to get them out of my head!

So please everyone make sure your alarms are working properly, as I found out this morning you never know when you might need them.

I am so very glad everyone is okay :grouphug:
Yes, I would be in such trouble cause I just do not get dressed unless I am going to work or out shopping. PJs or long t-shirts are just more comfortable :goodvibes :lmao: :lmao:

Well, oops. After I fired off my not-so-nice e-mail the foster mom called me. Turns out they wrote us up for the WRONG kitty! Which is why the one on the website is still there. She's not our kitty. There were 2 kittens that had almost identical markings, but one had some little bald patches on her face. We chose the one without the bald patches. The poor foster mom has been trying to get it sorted out as to which cat is actually our cat. So that's one issue.

The next issue is she said the vet who used to do their spays was just fired and replaced by 2 other vets. The one vet she doesn't care for at all, the other vet is a bit of a butcher. I told her I want the kitty released to us and spayed at our vet. She just called back to say they DO have permission to release the kitty to us, but we will be responsible for the cost of the spay. That will make DH really mad, but that's life. This way we get our kitty this week and we can take her to our vet who we know and trust.

What a bunch of drama for one kitty!:headache:

I'm glad that things seem to be taken care of now. I hope that kitty is home with you soon! Sounds like your vet is definitely the best place for her.

WOW! What a scare this morning! I am glad that everyone was okay and that the damage is minimal. What a mess it could have been. Take it easy if you can.

Janet~ I am so happy to hear that everyone is safe and that your house is still standing. Thanks for the reminder.

Elizabeth~ What a situation with your poor :cat: I hope she is home with you all soon. :scared1: What a schedule for your DH, but at least Toad is gone.

Tammi~ Sorry you are having to deal with the stress of XH2B. Loving the trip report so far.

Deb~ Here's some :wizard: that Nick feels better soon!!

Marci~ :wizard: that the boys can get their games in. Seems like you'll be playing into July.

Jen~ Hope the field trip was a great success.

Becky~ Good to see you! Thanks for the heads up on the fork/spoon set. We will have to check the Disney Store.

Tom~ Good luck with the swing set set up! Good to see you around too!

Tia~ Sounds like you'll stay busy right up til you leave.

Glynis~ A picnic sounds like a lovely idea for the weekend. Thanks for the update on Clare.

Lindsay~ Try not to work too hard know that it's getting busy.

Heidi~ Did you decide how to spend all your bday money?

 and :wizard: to all that I missed.

Molly is not feeling herself today, she woke up with a fever so I am suspecting a sinus infection as she has been dealing with her allergies. If she isn't better tomorrow then we'll be headed to the dr.s. She is thankfully napping right now. I've spent the past hour or so out in our front flower beds digging up some old shrubs and planting the new flowers I got last night.

Oh, and I'm not sure if I mentioned this last week or not, forgive me if I did. Emma's teacher selected her to be part of her school's Talent Development Program for her reading. Apparently it is the precursor to the Gifted and Talented Program. She and 4 other kids from 1st grade meet with the director once or twice a week and discuss a specially selected book that is supposed to challenge and promote higher level thinking. Eric and I are so proud of her! Now only if I could get her to love doing her homework!

Oh, Janet!!! I'm just shaking all over after reading this! I'm so glad that you are all ok, and that the damage is not as bad as it could have been.

Thanks for the reminder. We checked ours at Daylight Savings time, and all are working properly with new batteries intalled. Next on my list are Carbon Monoxide detectors!

Hugs and pixie dust for Molly. I hope that all will be well with her!

Tell Emma how proud we all are of her! That is such a wonderful accomplishment! You all should be so proud!

Is this new code for packages only? And apparently for summer, not fall?

from what I've read it is some sort of upsell code. It seems to work for Moderate and deluxe resorts and you must have the dining plan with at least a one day base ticket. People are reporting significant savings over the AAA rate. I priced a room at POR for 8/10-8/12 and it will work then. since we already have APs I decided to hold out for an AP rate rather than buy 5 one day base tickets.

I hope Molly feels better after her nap. You should be proud of Emma that is a great achievement. Could you give me the magic recipe for liking homework if you discover it? My boys could use a big batch :rotfl:

I installed a carbon monoxide detector last fall. We only have one, but it is centrally located and I feel safer knowing that it is there.

When we went to the food and wine festival in 2005 we had the flourless chocolate cake with irish whiskey sauce. It was sooooo good. Fast forward to next weekend. We are doing the cub scout camping trip and I have a recipe for a delicious croc pot chocolate cake that is served warm from the crock pot. I was thinking of making an irish whiskey sauce to go along with it. Does anyone have a recipe that they would like to share?

jus tstopping by to say hello..the field trip was fun and they ahd a little going away party for me--so sweet! they gave me a picture of the kids, and 2 teachers gave me 25 dollars to barnes and noble each..so yay!

im off to get my hair done..have a great day

I am always venting to friends. It's a good outlet for me, especially when xh2b does something that really ticks me off. The only thing that really upsets me anymore is when it seems like he doesn't put the kids first. Or when he says something stupid like "I'm entitled to have the kids for holidays too. It's my right." :headache:  When he is the one working 12 hr. days (including commute), coming home and fixing dinner, shuttling the kids to activities, getting their homework done, bathing them and putting them to bed, and starting all over the next day, then he can talk to me about rights! Things like that are what stresses me out. But now that soccer is over and school is winding down it won't be so bad for me. But it will start all over again in the fall, with 2 in school now. Also, it's good to have Bob to talk to since he's recently been through this too. He gives me the 'guy' perspective, and since he can rationalize things without being emotional involved, sometimes he can help me to see other sides of things. Ok, vent over. Thanks for asking, Glynis.
Tammi, I am sorry you have to deal with this. Please feel free to vent away. That's what we are here for. I know this must be a difficult time & we are all here for you. :grouphug:

Nick is home sick with a head cold and stomach ache. colby is in my arms so it is hard to type. Just wanted to say hi. Have a good day all.

Deb
Feel better Nick!

Hi All, let me just start this with a reminder to make sure your FIRE ALARMS are working!
Janet, I am so glad you & your family (&cats)are o.k. That must have been so scary.

It's intern time already?!?! Wow, time flies. Good luck with your busy summer.

Tell me about it! I just hope the next 3 months go as fast as the last 3 have.

But, at least this year, we have a fully staffed dept. with great people (thank goodness, and knock on wood!). This is actually the most prepared I've ever felt before the start of a summer program, so that does count for something! :thumbsup2

Well, at least you know where things stand now, and have a plan of action. Plus, it sounds like the foster mom is on top of things, so that likely means she's been taking good care of your kitty in the interim!

Can't wait to see more pictures of her! Did you guys decide on a name?

Oh Janet, I am so, so thankful to hear that you and yours are safe and sound. :wizard: :grouphug: You guys don't by chance have a home warranty, do you? If you do, I would imagine that the water heater would be covered.

This does drive home how important all these alarms are. We have the usual smoke detectors in our house, but have been saying for several years now that we should get the carbon monoxide and fire detection/monitoring through our home alarm company (mainly for our darling dog, who is home alone alot). You've defintely made me think about getting that project off the ground once and for all!

Ok, I finally got Daniel's communion pictures uploaded....

Before we left...

Janet i am so glad that you and your family and house are okay.

i asked my attendant last night if she heard from her friend about his brother. when she talked to him at 2:45pm he was still in surgery and his surgery started at 8 am yesterday. she has not heard from him since so we are hoping no news is good news.

i am gonna have a busy day tomorrow. i am going to get up and head out to the interview. then my attendant and i will go out to eat lunch and pick her son up. after we pick him up we are going to take him to target and get pictures taken of him. tomorrow afternoon is my moms retirement party at school at 4:30. ugh!
