That's what we are trying to do. I'm just not real good about pulling it all together. She has a nice black vest. It zips up but I think it would work over a peasant blouse anyway. I'll go through her closet with her and see what she has for skirts. They also show alot of outfits with black pants but tight at the bottom.

I want my own peasant blouse. I borrowed one of my mom's when I was a kid and it was one of my favorite shirts ever.

Cassidy had pants as part of her Pirates costume....they were the one size fits all if you'd like me to send them.

Let me see if I can find a pic of their costumes!!

Hey anybody wanna see our pictures?

Marti Love the Pictures. You look stunning.

If you can't get her over the hump, I would convince SIL and BIL that you can still eat at the meals. The characters will stay away if the kids are afraid. They are very good about following the lead of the kids. I think if they are around them with their cousins enjoying the interaction they might get over it. Otherwise, I'm no help as I've never had little ones at Disney.

I absolutely second that. It has worked very well for our family and the characters have always been great about keeping distance from those afraid.

Well, my since my daughter napped long and late today, I am going to go rest in my comfy chair while she watches a movie. Night all!

Well, I thought I would share some of my wedding pics. I apologize for the dark border around the photos, but as they were stuck into my wedding album pretty tightly, I figured it was best not to mess with them! :goodvibes

These are some of my favorite pictures, because you can see my dress bustled. The two things I definitely wouldn't change about my wedding if I were to do it over - the groom or my dress!

I had thought about that, but I don't know if she will just totally freak out if they're anywhere near her. They went to the grand opening of a Disney Store near them and Mickey and Minnie were on hand for pictures. DN5 had to be held the whole time by her daddy if M&M were anywhere near the part of the store she was in. DN3 was apprehensive of them at first (probably more so due to DN5's reaction), but did eventually go up to Mickey with her mom and take a pic and gave him a high five.

Without knowing her reaction, I wouldn't want to put anyone else around us through that. I can remember being at Chef Mickey's once, and a child a couple of tables over from us screamed and cried like they were being beaten the entire time. That's miserable for everyone.

I can sympathize here with you Lindsay, as I went through this with Alyssa for 2 trips, and on our 3rd she finally chilled out. The first 2 trips I booked character meals, the worst one being at LTT where she literally went under the table to get away from the characters. The rest of the meal she spent on my lap crying. I noticed that poor Nicholas didn't get much interaction because the characters tended to rush or stay away because she was so upset. Needless to say, because of her reaction, I was not able to enjoy these meals. I don't really think there is anything that you can do to make her less scared. It is something she will have to do on her own. This last trip I felt like Alyssa really wanted to meet the characters but she continued on with the fussing when we got near. I finally just picked her up and marched her up to Mickey before she knew what hit her. That did it, she got over it, and FINALLY started having fun with them. My suggestion to you is to let SIL know that everyone else enjoys these and if they decide not to join you, give her other options of where you can make ressies for her family, but the rest of you will be dining with the characters. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice, Tammi. This might be the route we will have to go. Although it's a weird scenario, as I could see these meals becoming a bit of a "pi**ing" match between both BIL's families. It might be like we're all taking sides - particularly as Jonathan and I don't see them a whole lot (living 4 hours apart from everyone), we're somewhat "fought over" between the two families - not to mention our parents! - when we're in town/together.

Maybe she will have a miraculous turnabout before December!

I have decided to make a jello :cake: for my birthday. :goodvibes

Jello Cake

1 box yellow or white cake mix
1 small box of any flavor jello
1 small box of instant vanilla pudding
1 small container of cool whip, thawed

Mix cake according to box directions, and bake.
While cake is baking, mix jello according to directions and set aside. (do not refrigerate)
When cake is done let cool, then poke holes all over cake. Pour jello over top of cake and let cool completely.
In a large bowl mix pudding according to directions, then fold in cool whip. Spread pudding/cool whip on top of cake and refrigerate until ready to serve.

sounds yummy

Lindsay - I wish I knew what to suggest! Is your niece afraid of Chuck E. Cheese? If not then she might be fine with the characters. Sister is 5 but she isn't afraid of anything. Brother is 3 and he is just starting to be able to imagine things that scare him. He talks about spooky shadows and things that are creepy - he scares himself. Maybe book a princess breakfast at the beginning of the trip and save the other character meals for the end so maybe she will get used to the characters in the parks? Or plan something else for their family to do while the rest of you go to CM's and LTT.:confused3

That's a good question - I have no idea if she's been to Chuck E. Cheese. I know she wigged out when she saw some sort of character cow at the Houston Rodeo last year, though, plus the aformentioned run-ins with the Mice themselves.

At first, my SIL did say DN5 wanted no part of ANY character meals. I clarified - even the princess meals?, as she is just wild about them - and SIL said that eating with the princesses would probably be okay. That might be a way to ease her into it. I also plan on making all the kids autograph books and maybe if everyone else but her is getting the characters to fill up their books, peer pressure will set in (particularly since she's the oldest).

I agree with this! Keep the dinners, and let the girls decide how much interaction or non-interaction they want. When Jacob was 18 months, we went to DL, and had breakfast one day at Goofy's Kitchen. Katie always loved the characters, and was never afraid. Jacob, on the other hand, was very cautious. At first, he hid his face in my neck and wouldn't look. During the breakfast, several characters came to our table, and would play with Katie, but they all left Jacob alone. During the meal, he watched the interaction with Katie, and smiled, but still didn't want to "play". Later that day, in the park, however, he went right up to Mickey Mouse. I guess he'd figured that there was no threat!

As long as the grown-ups are there, they should be ok. Just be prepared to run interference if needed. My guess is they'll be just fine. Do you have access to a video called "Disney Sing-along Songs Disneyland"? It shows the characters interacting with kids and it's really cute, with songs kids know, and it helps make things more friendly. Just a thought.

Thanks for the suggestions, Glynis. I will have to look into the sing-along video - I bet that might help. I've also been kicking around borrowing my parents' camcorder for our quick March trip, and taping me and Jonathan interacting with the characters, so she can see what it's like.

She's just not terribly adventurous - now her little sister is another story, as long as she's not copying big sis' behavior! She's a little daredevil!

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions! If any further inspiration strikes, please let me know!

Here's a healthy dose of :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: for all the sickies out there. I hope everyone gets some good rest tonight, and feels healthier in the a.m.

Good night, DDA! :cloud9:

You just described the reaction that Abi had/has to ANY character in costume....she was about 3 when I finally told her about there being a person in the costume.....they still freak her out at 10...but she can handle them without crawling up one side of mom and down the other. The magic is still there but I don't think she'll be getting many character autographs this summer. But since telling her she doesn't have that complete melt down your describing. Either go with Tammi' advice or talk to mom & dad about telling your DN's the "truth"

camcorder might be a good idea...espescially if you can show little ones around you also!!

For those of you who have done iron ons...I have a question or 2. I used the dark transfer paper from eBay. I noticed that many of the shirts bled after washing. I tried different things...cold water, warm water, gentle etc. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions? Since I am doing shirts for 11 people in December, it bums me out that they won't look good after just 1 washing!!

Kristine,

I do everything wrong and mine have lasted for a year. I don't wash them before I stick the transfer on. I only cool for 20 seconds before I slowly peel them off. I wave the shirt in the air like a flag and then lay it flat for an hour. No folding or anything. It cools flat for an hour.

I use Avery labels. Only Avery. Never used ebaby lady's transfer. Get mine from the supply house or Wal Mart.

I wash then inside out, cold water, Tide, Downy, line dry, no heated dryer, no ironong, just fluff.

My DD tossed the undershirts I made for the kids in hot water, Clorox bleach, tumble dry, balled up in the hamper. The transfers are still on, mostly bright. I love Avery..:hippie: :hippie:
