Not as good as the Little Mermaid as Lucy Ball!!! That was an awesome idea!! (forgive me for not giving credit to the person that said that one...I don't remember who it was...)
That was my idea, but I didn't use that one.

I will send my entry to anyone interested.

Deb

That's probably the one! My great-aunt had me order a b-day cake from there once, and I wasn't terribly impressed. I will have to try your spot - I love cake!

I have had stuff from there and I wasn't impressed, either. We used to order cakes from a cake lady who was AMAZING. She did b-day cakes for DS for 5 years and not only are her cakes TO DIE FOR, she makes incredible designs. For DS she did Toy Story (4th b-day), a spectacular dinosaur (5th b-day), Mike from Monsters Inc. bowling (6th b-day), SpongeBob (&th b-day) and a huge pirate ship (8th b-day). His 9th b-day we went to Disney, and last year we just got a cake from Sam's. I should call and see if she is still doing cakes, because she also did the wedding cake for our friends and tons of birthday cakes for other people we know. She worked at Cake Carousel in Richardson but she did lots of custom cakes on the side.

I am desperately trying to think of the name of the place another friend of DS's had her cake from - it is a wedding cake place but they made a strawberry b-day cake for her with this incredible filling. Dallas Affaires, I think. I am looking in the phone book. Ah, here is Marci's place! Le Gateau Cakery. Stein's is the other one that I am not impressed with. Celebrity Bakery at Royal and Preston makes pretty good cakes, but not as good as my cake lady! Maybe I will call her tomorrow, just to see what she is up to these days.:rolleyes1

Bernadette - I am so glad you like the shirt! Loved all your pictures. They were terrific.

Advice needed from all of you:

As you probably have gathered by now, we're taking a large family trip this December - there will be 15 members of mine and Jonathan's family traveling together for 6 days. Of course, I'm the "planner" for this trip, and I've begun getting ideas from everyone about what's on their "wish" list for the trip.

Of the 15 traveling are my BIL, SIL, and two of my nieces (DN5 and DN3). My SIL and two nieces have never been to any Disney park, and my BIL hasn't been in 20 years. They've been so excited about this trip, and watched the planning DVD I had sent to them over the weekend.

My SIL e-mails me today and gives me ideas of what all they want to do, but says that my DN5 absolutely does not want to do any meals with the "big heads" (which is her term for the fur characters). Now, I know many kids are sometimes frightened of characters, but many of the things we had planned to do together as a large group (Chef Mickey's, Liberty Tree, etc.) will obviously have the "big heads". My other BIL/SIL and their family all LOVE the characters, and are emphatic that we do these meals (which I and our parents enjoy as well).

Anyways, my question - any ideas on how to get my oldest niece "over the hump" with the characters? Her little sister also typically mimics her behavior, so I'm afraid our problem could also become x 2. I know (nor would I want to) that we can't force her into an uncomfortable situtation, but I'd like any ideas that have maybe worked for you.

Becky - You are the Goddess of Research!;)

Speaking of research, I was curious after our furniture discussion. I Googled "Cargo" and I found out they have been bought out by Pier 1. But I can still get more dressers to match the one we have! I mentioned it to DH and he perked right up at the thought, so we'll have to look into that.

Oh, I'm not finished yet....
Kool-Aid was the drink of the summer
So was a swig from the hose
Giving your friends a ride on your handlebars
Wearing your new shoes on the first day of school

When a quarter seemed like a fair allowance;
and another quarter a MIRACLE
When ANY parent could discipline ANY kid, or feed him, or use him
to carry groceries...And nobody, not even the kid, thought a thing of it.
When being sent to the principal's office was nothing compared to
the fate that awaited you at home.
Basically, we were in fear for our lives but it wasn't because of
drive by shootings, drugs, gangs, etc.
Our parents and grandparents were a much bigger threat! And some of
us are still afraid of em!
Didn't that feel good? Just to go back and say, "Yeah, I remember
that!"
Well, let's keep going!!
Let's go back to the time when...
Decisions were made by going "eeny-meeny-miney-mo"
Mistakes were corrected by simply exclaiming, "do over!"
"Race issues" meant arguing about who ran the fastest.
Money issues were handled by whoever was the banker in "monopoly"
Catching fireflies could happily occupy an entire evening
It wasn't odd to have two or three "best" friends.
Being old, referred to anyone over 20.
The worst thing you could catch from the opposite sex was cooties.
Nobody was prettier than Mom
Scrapes and bruises were kissed by mom or grandma and made better
It was a big deal to finally be tall enough to ride the "big people" rides at the amusement park.
Getting a foot of snow was a dream come true.
Abilities were discovered because of a "double-dog-dare"
Spinning around, getting dizzy and falling down was cause for giggles.
The worst embarrassment was being picked last for a team.
Water balloons were the ultimate, ultimate weapon.
Older siblings were your worst tormentors, but also your fiercest protector
If you can remember most or all of these, then you have LIVED!!!
Pass this on to anyone who may need a break from their "grown up" life......I TRIPLE DOG DARE YA!!!!!!

I remember it all.
I only wish I could still do it all again.
Life was simple, but oh so much fun.
:dance3:

If you can't get her over the hump, I would convince SIL and BIL that you can still eat at the meals. The characters will stay away if the kids are afraid. They are very good about following the lead of the kids. I think if they are around them with their cousins enjoying the interaction they might get over it. Otherwise, I'm no help as I've never had little ones at Disney.

Hi Elin. How were lessons today?

Most students showed up so that was a plus! Thanks for asking. Sorry you don't have a more definitive answer about your jaw pain.

Just the lady I need! Deb, I need your costume designing capabilities. Becky wants to be a princess/pirate. Whatever that is?! I don't want to spend lots of money on this. Any ideas?

I agree you need to find a peasant blouse. Kohls had them last summer in the Men's dept, but I haven't been looking lately. A vest would be a great idea, maybe a skort instead of a miniskirt. Try to use stuff that she already has if you can.

I LOVE Celebrity's strawberry cake! Now I'm craving cake too!

Calling it a night, talk with ya all tomorrow.
pixiedust: and :grouphug: to all.

The only thing I notice Deb, is that I have gotten much more cautious with age. I don't go nearly as fast as I used to!

I'm quite sure that I will feel the falls a lot more than I used too:lmao:

I can sympathize here with you Lindsay, as I went through this with Alyssa for 2 trips, and on our 3rd she finally chilled out. The first 2 trips I booked character meals, the worst one being at LTT where she literally went under the table to get away from the characters. The rest of the meal she spent on my lap crying. I noticed that poor Nicholas didn't get much interaction because the characters tended to rush or stay away because she was so upset. Needless to say, because of her reaction, I was not able to enjoy these meals. I don't really think there is anything that you can do to make her less scared. It is something she will have to do on her own. This last trip I felt like Alyssa really wanted to meet the characters but she continued on with the fussing when we got near. I finally just picked her up and marched her up to Mickey before she knew what hit her. That did it, she got over it, and FINALLY started having fun with them. My suggestion to you is to let SIL know that everyone else enjoys these and if they decide not to join you, give her other options of where you can make ressies for her family, but the rest of you will be dining with the characters. Good luck.

That's what we are trying to do. I'm just not real good about pulling it all together. She has a nice black vest. It zips up but I think it would work over a peasant blouse anyway. I'll go through her closet with her and see what she has for skirts. They also show alot of outfits with black pants but tight at the bottom.

I want my own peasant blouse. I borrowed one of my mom's when I was a kid and it was one of my favorite shirts ever.
