This is the reason that my mom talked my dad in to time shares. She loves to vacation and it's important to her. She knew if they had it already paid for and had to use it, they would go. I still haven't convinced dh...vacation is NOT important to him.

Beth

It took me 20 years to convince DH that vacation was important. Of course, it was partly my fault because I wouldn't help save the money during the year! :rotfl: I didn't even get a honeymoon (of course, we were both in college at the time so had no money for one).

I had two girls and had cravings only with the 1st. Shrimp chowder and subs from a place 10 hours away. The closest I could get to the subs was at a subway 30 miles away! That was before they were everywhere. Luckily, my husband had to go up there about once a week for work and could bring one home for me. Never could find decent shrimp chowder.

I'm sure that I could convince dh that vacations are important much more easily if I would just go GET A JOB! I like SAHM too much right now, though the little one is getting bigger. Maybe in a couple of years...of course by then, the oldest will be heading for college, and I'll need a job to help with that. :rotfl: It's ok...I get a vacation every few years. DH just has different priorities sometimes, and I will probably thank him for them later in life.

Have a safe trip, Kate. I will be thinking of you and Nancy. I don't know where in NC you are going, but if you travel 95 in VA and need a rest stop, give me a shout. I'm only 5 miles away.

Tammi, we are headed to Pinehurst, NC. She won't travel on 95 from Cincinnati, but that is so sweet of you. Besides she is riding with my Dad. He will hardly stop long enough for you to pee! You gotta go fast! Talk about going commando!!!!

I also live just off I-95 in Florence, SC. If anyone is driving down to Florida, give me a shout out and we can meet.

Nancy--Have a safe trip! We'll keep both you and Kate (and your families) in our thoughts and prayers.

Beth

Thanks again to everyone for your kind thoughts. I know the funeral will be tough, but we are looking forward to all getting together.

Julia told her teachers at school that she is going to a "carnival" with her cousins. The kids are what keep you going!

Grace (mine 6) wants to see pictures of all the people we know who died. Oh my it is hard to discuss this with your children.
:grouphug: Thanks all!

Thanks for letting me know, Nancy. Pass our good thoughts on to Kate, please.

I just bought our airline tickets for October. I know it's early but I saw a fare on United out of Dulles for $182, and thought that was pretty good. Who knows what will happen to prices once summer gets here. I'm sure I could have gotten it a little cheaper on SWA out of Baltimore, but Dulles is so much more convenient, and we don't have to pay to park.

I don't know why, but trips always seem so much more real once I have purchased my airline tickets. Maybe it's because you can always cancel a hotel ressie, but not an airline ticket! Woohoo!

The paperwork is all signed. It went into the MLS today...cross your fingers. It's an amazing home...totally custom built but it's the neighborhood that presents the challenge. 5 years from now it will be different..they were the first to tear down and build. Well, you know how it is...price & location. And, I may be giving you a loud shout sooner than later :teeth: I have another listing coming my way in 2 weeks...but that's whole other story... :teeth:

Kristine and Marti- You two are realtors??? WHen I get ready to sell my home, can I ask you some questions??

Yeah!!! :Pinkbounc I agree about the trip seeming more real with airline tickets in hand. We've been shopping around for our August trip, but fares are still higher than we'd like right now. I would jump at $182, but they'll never get that low out of our rinky dink airport.

I was giddy all day yesterday, because I finally called and booked the on-site portion of our stay, so I know how you feel.

Marci - How did your dr.'s appt. go today? I sent you a PM.

Hey everyone, I need some help from you. As a graduate student, I have to teach a portion of a class tonight. I need to get some of your thoughts to help me put my lecture together. So, if you feel like you can, could you please answer the following question, and give a short answer as to why you chose what you did? Thanks.

Which of the following 3 societal trends do you feel have the largest impact on school library collection development:
a. illiteracy - not only the inability to read or write, but also the inability to use information.

b. the decline of school achievement

c. Cultural diversity (determining what is right/wrong; good/bad; secular/religious.

Thanks to anyone who can help me out.

Marti,

I reserved from Nov 30 to Dec 5th. I got a studio. I'm thinking though, at 7 mos, I might try for a 1 bedroom at BWI from Sun thru Wednesday and do the studio from checkin Thursday to Sunday....

I don't want to spend more than 100 points, because my next trip will be 225, and I don't want to borrow more than 25 from uy 2007... :scratchin :scratchin :scratchin :scratchin

I really thought after I bought that I would be able to stop worrying about codes and stuff, now I'm worrying about points and weekends.... :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

It's always something.....

BTW, my older sister has never been. So this is a really special trip for her.

Well, I really have to be in bed by midnight, so I'm off!!! :flower3: :flower3:

Feel better... :sunny:

So exciting - congrats on the DVC purchase, Steffy!

This is my answer based on what little I know of your topic.

This is exactly my argument for DVC, or any way you can make sure you travel on vacation (not necessarily to see family) once a year. Fortunately, DH also likes to travel, so he does agree on that point. He didn't really do much traveling as a kid, and since we've been married we try to take at least one trip a year (sometimes more).

For those that have asked - I gently broached the DVC subject as we were getting ready for bed last night. I said that I legitimately wanted to talk about it in the next day or two, and didn't want him to dismiss it until he'd heard me out. I said you know me - I would never in a million years be proposing that we do this right now (particularly since we won't be back to Disney until likely late 2007) if I didn't think it made some sense and was a good deal. He agreed we could talk about it Friday night.

But then laying in bed, out of the blue he starts asking questions about what type of accomodations? how many points would it cost to do this at this time of year? where else can we go? and we could rent points out if we weren't going to use them?

I consider that a positive sign - we'll see! :goodvibes

Glynis - interesting question. I would agree with what Tammi wrote, and then also add that I think the technology of today is impacting the development as well. With so much information (particularly in the world events and general research categories) now available on the Internet or through multi-media CD-ROMS, I would imagine this has caused traditional library collections to decrease, from books to microfiche, etc.

I can just remember using all of those encyclopedias growing up for various school projects - do they even make those anymore??

I don't know if that's helpful to you, but good luck with your class tonight!!
