That's pretty funny! I hope my boys will want to take vacations with us, but of course I also hope they will be able to pay their own way!

that was our rule--we can go, but gotta pay our way...i save like crazy in order to go!

I added a new column to my spreadsheet re: dates of next visit:

I would appreciate it if any and/or all of you who have visits scheduled could let me know your dates and locations - I will add it to the spreadsheet.

Then if anyone needs a copy, just let me know and I will forward it to you.

That would be a good ideal for a sticky if someone has time to put it together. The column with everyone and their dates for their next visit.

Anyway Feb 15-22 at POR
could you send me a copy? Do you need an e-mail or can you PM it?

It was HUGE here! They talked about it for days before and the day of the local news was all about it. I think it's partly due to the fact the a couple of years ago, another space capsule was set to land in the same place, but things went terribly wrong and it crashed spectacularly in the desert. Everyone really wanted this one to work, and it did. Picture perfect! I just can't wait to hear all about the data gathered from it. That should be fascinating!

Glynis - just wanted to say congrats to your hubby! How exciting to witness something like that in person, and also savvy enough to be the only one to capture it! I hope it pays off in spades one way or another for him in the long run.

I will have to watch the footage - we did get reports of it in TX, so I knew that had happened. NASA and anything space still holds a lot of interest here - both DH and I grew up mere miles from Johnson Space Ctr. and my FIL is an aerospace engineer for a subcontractor of NASA, so we always have a general idea of what is going on.

Of course, Columbia's explosion right over the Metroplex also woke us up a few years ago next month - that was so awful.

I'm so jealous of all of you who have trips planned. Looks like dh and I will go to Vegas in May. His good friend is getting married there. It will be nice to have alone time and we both like Vegas, but it's just not Mickey.

This is for anyone here who has had to throw a birthday party for more than one child on the same day. My twins will turn 4 in March, and we are starting to talk about the party. It will be pretty small because they don't know a whole lot of kids. However, my problem is that they want different themes for their party. Mary wants a Dumbo birthday party, and Leslie wants a Dora the Explorer party. How do you deal with kids who want different themes? Should I scrap the whole theme thing, and just go with your basic cake and ice cream? I suppose I could do 2 parties, but that just seems like a bit much! Anyone have any ideas? :scratchin

We have been doing two birthday parties on the same day for 4 years now. The last one we did together is the girls had a teddy bear picnic in 4th grade and kindergarten(my girls will be 14 and 10 on Mother's Day). After that they just didn't like the same things.

One gets the "big" party and one just gets to have a few friends over. Last year both had big parties. Didn't start out that way but I went a little overboard :flower:. We made a frisbee golf field in our backyard (cheaper than doing putt putt) modified it to use the cheap frisbees that look like donuts....that way the kids could take theirs home. Then Abi placed puppies at each "hole"....thus we had the theme of puppy putt putt. Then a 2 hour pick up break and Cassidy's 13th birthday bash started. Borrowed a movie popcorn machine, had pizza, watched movies and karoake and a bunch of teenagers in my house :scared: . It works out for us but I know a lot of people are scared of even the thought of doing it this way!!

If you have any other questions or if I can help more pm me.

It is like watching a train wreck.

Ok, who all here watches American Idol? Or should I say who will admit to watching it? These auditions are the best part. It just cracks me up  the way some of these people really think they can sing. Can't they hear themselves :listen:?? And Simon is just too much. I love it. :rotfl:

We watch but really don't get fanatical about it until they actually start up in Hollywood....although tonight there have been some scary characters. :scared1:

I hope no one minds or is offended, but I feel the need to brag on my DH a little bit today. I don't know how large the news story of the space capsule "Stardust" landing last weekend was where you all live, but here is was huge! My DH is a field photographer for a local news station, and was sent to the landing site to cover the story. Unfortunately, the weather report wasn't so good and the forecast was for cloudy and snowy. DH had to be there at 3:00 a.m., and he left me at 10:30 the night before, to give himself time for the 3 hour drive plus any snow and ice he might encounter.

He was the first photographer to arrive, and the NASA people gave him a prime site. Other news stations started to arrive, but none of them set up their equipment because they all thought the cloud cover and snow would hamper their visibility. DH, however, was all set up and ready to go. Finally, about 3 minutes before the re-entry, the snow stopped, the clouds shifted and there was clear sky. The capsule appeared in a large fireball with a tail streaming out behind it and DH was the ONLY photographer that captured it! The NASA people couldn't get their camera out until much later, and none of the other news stations got it on film at all. After it was all over, everyone was scrambling to get DH's film from him. The Discovery Channel wants it for a special they are airing later this month, CNN wants it, NASA wants it, etc. DH was a little bummed, because he can't sell the film. It legally belongs to the station he works for. If he had just been filming on his own time, he could have sold it for quite a bit of money.

However, I'm so proud of him! He takes such pride in his work! Thanks for letting me brag a little. I'm sorry if this is inappropriate!

This is so cool Glynis! Hey everybody- we know a CELEBRITY now! That's very exciting. Please tell him we said Congrats on the good job done!

I would do 1 party, a seperate cake each for there theme, design an invite with both themes on, party packs with both themes, use bags or boxes and design something with both themes and do a craft, 1 of each.
Have fun!!!

I like it! I could feasibly do something like this!

I LOVE IT!!!!! I think I will go ahead and combine the two themes. Perhaps have them all explore with Dora to find Dumbo.

I am starting to put together our trip plans for Spring Break which is in April. It will be me, DH and DS17. DS is in his last year of high school, so I wanted to do one last 'big' family vacation before he goes off to college next year. We will be flying to Las Vegas and then doing a circle driving trip that looks like this:

Las Vegas - 2 nights
Sedona, AZ - 1 night
Grand Canyon NP, AZ - 2 nights
Page, AZ - 1 night
Bryce Canyon NP, Utah - 2 nights
Zion NP, Utah - 1 night
Las Vegas - 1 night

I have done some research into what we want to do, but am still in the planning stages. If anyone has any good suggestions let me know. I have the air, hotels, and car booked already so now I am just looking for what to visit, what to do, where to eat etc.

Let me know if anyone has any suggestions or advice.

Thanks. Ellen

I can help you out with Zion and Bryce. I've been to both places countless times. Both are incredibly beautiful with some wonderful hikes and observation points. Let me know what your dates are; our spring break is also in April, and I will probably be visiting my mother who lives about 50 miles from Zion. It would be fun to meet up for a minute or 2.

Glynis - I watched the coverage - very interesting and very exciting for your husband. Sorry that he won't get personal glory, but I am sure that those "in the know" in the industry will know whose footage it is.

Marti - Sorry you aren't feeling well. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Jennifer - I am sorry to hear about your problem with the dentist. Good luck with the reconstruction. Have fun at your night class. I don't remember, did you want your PA or your NP? My cousin has both I believe and I could ask her if you have any specific questions. She teaches at our local college's nursing program.

Denise - Your stool is very cute. I hope you are able to purchase Davis' at a reasonable cost. We would hate for you to have to spend DH's bonus on that and miss out on DVC.

I am going to become either a Pediatric or Neonatal nurse practitioner. I've wanted Peds forever, but my preceptorship is in the NICU so I figure I'll give that one last chance.... but my heart is definitely in Peds.

I had thought about a PA program long before nursing, and it would have been easier. There just aren't as many options though, for PAs (as far as job market, PLUS teaching in academic settings, etc).... and in all states but I believe two, NPs have as many or more abilities than PAs.

I'm excited, but it seems so far away! :faint:

Who am I kidding!? My whole family knows I'm going to be a professional student :rotfl:
