DDA, I have an idea to cheer up June!

I am going to make a giant "Get Well, June!" sign. When we go to WDW in 3 weeks, I'm going to get a group photo of us holding it by the Goofy statue. If we all did that when we go, I bet she'd love it! What do you think?

John and I both sat down and prayed together last night for her. I'm crying again thinking of the struggles she faces. BUT, we all know what a fighter June is, and I am positive she will beat this monster and recover fully! DDA Prayer Warriors unite!

I think that is a great idea Denise

Elin, we are still doing "Nutrisystem plan", but buying our own meals instead (Weight Watchers, Lean Cuisine, South Beach Diet, Healthy Choice). Sticking to the same exact plan, but this way we have more variety. For b'fast we are doing a small portion of plain cereal, WW muffin, or a b'fast bar. Lunch is the meal. Dinner meal. Still eating the same veggies, fruit, milk portions. It's working, and we're happier with more choices.

I may give that a try, Denise. And you are snacking on soy products? Like your soy nuts. It seems to work for you, so I think I could try it out too. Certainly has to be comparable or cheaper in cost.

Hi All!

I'm back with a nasty head cold and a very bad case of post Disney depression. We some very magical moments at Disney but unfortunately had some issues with the hotel-came back to the hotel late the first night to a room without any funiture and a connecting room with about 20 matresses in it. When I went to tell the supervisor who assigned us the room the condition of the rooms the next day she laughed and said it wasn't her fault-engineering had told her the rooms were OK. I need to compose a letter to Disney about the experience as she showed no appreciation for what we went through late at night with no luggage or stuff I had shipped down via UPS (that arrived at 11PM). Her reaction was shocking.

Emma was sick for 2 days at Disney, Joe our last day and Lizzie on the car ride home from the airport.

I need to upload the photos from my camera and I haven't had a chance to even unpack yet. I can't imagine how many loads of laundry I'll be doing this weekend.

Lizzie starts school on Tuesday. Joe goes for about an hour on Wednesday to meet his teacher and 1/2 the class and then starts on Thursday and Emma starts on Monday the 11th.

Good news is my husband actually enjoyed the trip and was OK with my meeting Beth and Anne Marie (I didn't tell him in advance). It was really great meeting then and I was blown away with Paula's SSP!!!!! I need to unpack tonight. Maybe the Tink pillowcase will cure my cold and depression.

Hope all is well with everyone. Maybe I can get caught up some over the weekend while doing laundry.

Here's the photo taken with my phone. I'll post a better version when I upload the other photos.

DDAmeet.jpg

Welcome back, Bernadette! It was great meeting you! I would love a copy of the photo of the three of us. It didn't take with my camera, though I do have the one the Lizzie took of you and me.

I'm sorry about the head cold. I picked up a nasty cold while I was there, too, and I still have a horrendous cough. Michael (dh) ended up with a very itchy rash (allergic reaction to the sun).

Why is it we always have so much drama with everything we try to do,
if the tables were turned I would have told the neighbor to go ahead and fix the problem, just be sure that they fill in the hole completely and that if they did cause any damage to my line they would be responsible for repairing that.

Now we're waiting on a call from the planning commission . . . . . . . . .

Who the heck is she?????
I wasn't going so much for who she is, but the similarity in the faces. But since you asked.....

Consuelo Velázquez (1916?-January 22, 2005), was a Mexican songwriter. According to her obituary she was 88 years old. Most music resources, however, list her birth date as August 29, 1924 in Ciudad Guzmán, Jalisco State, Mexico. Velázquez was the songwriter and lyricist of many Latin standard songs, such as Amar y vivir, Verdad amarga, Franqueza, Que seas feliz, Cachito, Enamorada and, most notably, of the enduring 1940s-era hit Bésame mucho. Velázquez, who is said to have begun playing the piano at the age of four, started her professional career as a classical music concert pianist, performing at Palacio de Bellas Artes and XEQ Radio, but later became a singer and recording artist. According to Velázquez herself, she was strongly influenced by Spanish composer Enrique Granados. She composed the romantic ballad Bésame mucho in 1941, which was soon recorded by artists around the world.

In a nutshell; I am doing a calorie, fat & sugar restricted diet (which basically leaves nothing :teeth:

EVERY AM Bill does 1 c. special k, 1/2 grapefruit, coffee (I do the soy bar)
Lunch is usually a lean cuisine meal
Dinner toss up between egg white omelet, 4 oz chicken, salad

I fit in an assortment of fruits with the later 2 meals.

2 x a week I eat the 1 cup special K w/some fruit for lunch...this has helped me quite a bit.

I have virtually stopped eating meat....my usual dinner is a large salad with 2 oz of goat cheese which I bread and fry in olive oil. (may sound gross, but it is very good) Since I stopped eating meat, the weight has been coming off consistently.

I won't lie....I am hungry often, but it has gotten better. It amazes me how little the body needs to maintain weight, let alone lose.

There is not much meat in the NutriSystem meals either. But I am basically not a huge meat eater anyway. Thanks for letting me know what you are doing. I am so glad you have found a way to make it work for you. And having the weight come off really does make those hunger pangs a little less painful, doesn't it?

Yes to the soy snacks. I actually bought another set of snacks from QVC. I think the soy is very important. So for lunch today I had a can of Chunky chicken veggie soup (190 cal), 1 fat free Mozerella stick, and one soy cracker snack from Nutrisystem. It's giving me lots of variety. I'm losing around 2-3 pounds per week. I figure that's better for the long term, and this is something I can stick with long term. I'd quit after a week on the stuff Kristine's eating.

Clare, I think our trips overlap, I would be willing to set up a meeting time to take the picture for June if you'd like.

The dog was standing beside me here at the computer and I could have sworn I heard her drinking. When I moved her out of the way I noticed that the track for our patio doors is filled with water! This usually only happens when we get heavy snowstorms. This Ernesto is coming in from a different direction than most of our rainstorms.

I am off here to do some clean up. Wonder if I could find any sandbags.........

We're not eating much meat at all either. Lots of veggies, a little fruit (too much sugar for my diabetes), low fat or fat-free dairy... LOTS of veggies. Dinner is usually a lean cuisine, salad, and 1 or 2 veggies like spinach or green beans.

Oh, and I'm addicted to sugar free popsicles. I just ate 3 for 45 calories. It's a great snack!~

Me too, but your tweaking of the NutriSystem diet looks like it might work for me too. Thanks! If it works, great. If not, I will order the next month's meals in a few weeks.

By the way... you can get Soy Crackers at grocery stores and even the Sheetz and WaWa convenience stores around here. I just bought a bag at the grocery this morning. I am out of those from NutriSystem and have come to like them.

Here's an update on my mom for those who have asked. Good and bad news, but considering June's news I guess it should all be considered good. They can tell mom has a had a recent stroke. They think it is mild, but have to do more tests. They know she now has two blood clots in her lungs, not sure if this was a low pressure or high pressure (vein vs. artery) stroke. Good news is that her breasts cancer from nine years ago has not metastasized. One of the compression fractures they found does seem to be compressing her spinal cord, and that's why they think she can't walk. Her legs aren't paralyzed -- she has some feeling, but when she tries, she can't move her upper leg to take the step. They have called in a neurosurgeon who is currently in surgery. He will look at the scans and will decide the next step. The complication is the blood clots. The pulmonary specialist I talked to yesterday said that they were treating mom with blood thinners, which should dissolve the clots, but if surgery is required they will have to put a filter in her vena cava to try to catch additional clots.

So, bottom line is I'm trying to finish up work so I can go over and catch the doctors. I stopped on here because you guys are my family and I wanted to ask for prayers and PD. You all have been so supportive over the last few weeks, and I know I keep repeating myself but you have been true lifesavers.

I already sent PD and prayers out for June, Caroline (Dawn) and Kate, so here's some more for anyone else who needs it. :grouphug:

I'll look for the soy crackers. We checked the cal/fat/fiber on the NS stuff before we quit. Most of the diet frozen meals are virtually identical. The biggest difference we noticed was less protein or soy protein. That's why we're trying to make sure to add soy back in the diet. We like the Boca soy hamburger patties too.

If you have any bags of potting soil around they will work, if not rolled towels will help. Hang in there!
