I couldn't find them in any store. I had originally read about them in a health magazine. The best price was drugstore.com. They taste pretty good. The one to buy is the chocolate paradise bar. They make me feel really full (strangely)

Has anyone heard of Shirataki noodles?? This is my latest obsession! :teeth:

Are you still on the diabetic diet? My weight loss has slowed down significantly in the past month or so and I feel like I need another boost or jump start. Any suggestions as to what is working for people that does not involve meetings and that type of thing would be appreciated. Are John and Denise still on NutriSystem?

Hi Lindsey & welcome back! Hope you had a wonderful time :goodvibes

Hey gang,

Thanks, Denise, for letting me know about all that was going on. I don't have much time to catch up now, but will try to over the weekend. Needless to say, I'll spend some time on my knees today for everyone. I hope September brings much better news! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

Because these noodles are almost totally a beneficial type of fiber, they have almost no usable carbohydrate or calories. There are some indication that they may have other health benefits as well.
What are shirataki noodles made of? : Shirataki comes from the root of a plant (Amorphophallus Konjac, or a few other closely-related species) grown in various parts of Asia, and given many names in different places, including Konnyaku potato (or just konnyaku), konjac, konjaku, elephant yam (although as far as I can tell, they are not related to any other plant commonly called “yam”), and others. The fiber is also known as glucomannan.
What are the benefits of shirataki noodles?: There is some evidence that glucomannan, when tested as a powdered supplement, can play a role in blood sugar control, as well as produce improvements in cholesterol control and weight loss (see this report). It also contributes to fiber intake, and can be a substitute for starchy noodles.

I have to try them :teeth:

You are turning into a little diet guru, Kristine! Thanks for all this info you are sending out.

Here's an update on my mom for those who have asked. Good and bad news, but considering June's news I guess it should all be considered good. They can tell mom has a had a recent stroke. They think it is mild, but have to do more tests. They know she now has two blood clots in her lungs, not sure if this was a low pressure or high pressure (vein vs. artery) stroke. Good news is that her breasts cancer from nine years ago has not metastasized. One of the compression fractures they found does seem to be compressing her spinal cord, and that's why they think she can't walk. Her legs aren't paralyzed -- she has some feeling, but when she tries, she can't move her upper leg to take the step. They have called in a neurosurgeon who is currently in surgery. He will look at the scans and will decide the next step. The complication is the blood clots. The pulmonary specialist I talked to yesterday said that they were treating mom with blood thinners, which should dissolve the clots, but if surgery is required they will have to put a filter in her vena cava to try to catch additional clots.

So, bottom line is I'm trying to finish up work so I can go over and catch the doctors. I stopped on here because you guys are my family and I wanted to ask for prayers and PD. You all have been so supportive over the last few weeks, and I know I keep repeating myself but you have been true lifesavers.

I already sent PD and prayers out for June, Caroline (Dawn) and Kate, so here's some more for anyone else who needs it. :grouphug:

Marci

Marci -- pixiedust: for you and your Mom. At least you are finally getting some answers to her misery.

I honestly don't remember what steaks we ordered, they were really good, and cooked just like we like them, we did fight over the last pretzel breadstick though :rotfl:

You didn't have to fight...they will bring you more. :teeth:

Speaking of bras filled with things, I was talking to a friend today about the airport restrictions. How you can't take liquids and gels on the plane with you. We decided you can wear it on your chest, (water bra) but you can't pack it in your luggage. Now how  is that. :confused3 :confused3
Someone may have already answered this but I heard you couldn't wear those bras on the flight anymore.

We survived the trip to the dentist!

Much to my dismay, Matthew fought off a nap (Alyssa used to fall asleep in the car within seconds...he has other ideas), and he was crying so much that the very sweet receptionist decided she'd hold him until my teeth were cleaned.

Alyssa was very interested in my check-up and she handled her own check-up fabulously! I rewarded her good behavior with a new pack of Zizzlingers (or was I really rewarding myself for the whole experience?!! :rotfl: ).

The dentist did sternly tell me it's time for Alyssa to stop sucking her thumb. Where as, I don't want to see her do any damage to her bone structure, I also feel she needs this comfort for a little while longer as she continues to adjust to life in our new home with her new brother.

I'm also stressed, because I know potty training and a transition to a big girl bed need to happen soon. I just don't want to overwhelm her (or myself) with too many changes at once.

I'd appreciate any advice anyone has on any or all of these subjects! :)

I sucked my thumb until I was much much much older than Alyssa - I did wear braces in my teens but that was because I was gappy not because my thumb pushed my teeth out... I always thought that was an urban myth

well just under 200 posts to the next milestone.

and now I know why it is taking me forever to catch up!! :rotfl:

Geez. Remind me not to try to do some work when we are within 300 posts of a milestone!

Thanks for posting the update for me Elin.

Jo - Welcome to Florida!

Jen - congrats on the milestone.

Tom - Good to hear from you again.

I was out in the elements for a couple of hours. What is it about hurricanes and snowstorms that make people who can't drive in nice weather feel like they need to go out and plug up the roads? It is really starting to get windy here, as Elin can attest to. I hear that we are starting to get power outages around here. It's going to get nasty!

Update on Kate from Tammi -- Tammi can't get to her computer now so she called with news from Steve. Kate's surgery went/is going well. The doctor feels he will be able to repair eveything and Kate ought to be waking up and home in about 5 hours. (I am hoping I got it all correct, Tammi.)

As I was talking on the phone with her the two chairs on my patio skidded the whole length of the patio in the wind! Ernesto is here and blowing up a storm and dumping tons of water on us. It's coming your way, Robyn.

Thanks for the update, Elin. So glad it went well.

I just wanted to post to say that June and her family are in my thoughts and prayers. I was stunned when I heard the news. I posted a card yesterday so hopefully she will get it in the next few days.

Thank you Elin for letting us know.

You'd never be able to tell my kids are related! I'm such a dork, I keep trying to recreate pictures, so I can compare them. Do you know who is who? And no cheating and looking at the properties! :teeth:
