Here are some pictures from Japan. The one thing the girls said was the most difficult was not being able to order without pointing or be able to understand what anyone was saying around them. Can you tell what these restaurants are?

I got bumped out of my dial up 5 times while trying to post these. The last 3 days my dialup has been horrible!!! I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but nothing seems to help. I wish that we'd get a good DSL around here.

Hunter Marching along (he's in the blue uniform not the silly hat)

Of course, he is - he's also the only one in airwalks! :lmao:

Vicki & Deb, great pictures thanks for sharing.

Great holiday and trip pics everyone! Thanks for sharing them. Deb - Colby lloks like he was having a blast!

It's a pretty slow day around here. I am home from work as I woke up with a killer sore throat and headache. Phil has had a bad cold the last two days so I think I'm coming down with that. I probably could have lived with the throat, but not the head too. Just not worth the effort to fight it getting to work (this is when not having a car has it's down side). So, now I'm just kicked back in the chair and lamenting the lack of good things on daytime tv. Hope everyone is having a great day!

Vicki -- love the pictures of your girls on their trip. It looks like they had a fabulous time. Also loved the pictures from the race. I've never been much of a runner. I'm really wimpy -- I'm too top heavy to enjoy the run, so I admire people who do run!

Deb -- love the pictures of your handsome boys in the parade. They looked to be having a great time! We also went to watch our local parade. The boys were in it last year with a child-sized antique John Deere, but it wasn't running this year so we opted out of doing anything else.

We FINALLY got some much needed rain last night, and are praying for more this week. We were in such need of rain that it didn't even bother anyone that the fireworks were called off.

I wondered if anyone would notice that. Colby had his on too.

Vicki I love the pictures. It is so interesting to see pictures from a different culture.

I didn't notice Colby's. I went back to take a closer look. Yep, there they were!

I wore my tie-dye ones at my mom's to freak out my sister. My sense of style (or lack thereof) has always been a sense of shame to her. She is my younger sister but was always the one that cared about things like that!

How's this for an explanation:

The word "dick" has appeared in any number of strange places. Around the 1840s, "dick" was used to mean a type of hard cheese; when treacle sauce was added, it became "treacle dick", and finally when currants or raisins were added (looking like little spots), the "spotted dick" was born.

The earliest recipes for spotted dick are from 1847. For non-British readers, "spotted dick" is a boiled suet pudding, with bits of dried fruit (usually raisins or currants) that (as already noted) look like little spots.

The Oxford Companion to Food comments that, strictly speaking, "spotted dick" is made by taking a flat sheet, spreading sugar and raisins on it, then rolling it up. A similar dessert is "spotted dog," a plain cylinder of suet paste with the raisins and currants and sugar stuck into it, so that the spots are visible on the outside. Both spotted dick and spotted dog were traditionally boiled (or even steamed) in a cloth, but nowadays they are usually baked.

Heinz sell a tinned one - not sure if you could find it in Walmart in Florida (I know they cater for us brits!) Although it's hot pudding best served with custard so probably not good in the FL heat!

If you want to look for a recipe or more info please remember to google spotted dick recipe or spotted dick pudding... or you may get a shock :rotfl:

What a great explanation! It sounds really good! I can't wait to try it in August. I'll take pictures and post them once I do!

Glynis I want to learn to knit and crochet so bad. I just don't have the time to commit to lessons right now. I'm seriously considering learning how to smock. I must be out of my mind!

Your cake turned out so nice! I enjoy cake decorating. One day I'd like to take classes for that too. I love the look of the strawberries rolled in pink sugar. Do you mind sharing the instructions?

Those are great pictures of your family. What an honor for your father!

Here's the recipe for the strawberries:

Wash strawberries and pat dry. Fill a shallow bowl with colored sugar. In a mixing bowl, blend 4 ounces of softened cream cheese, 2 teaspoons of confecioners' sugar, 4 teaspoons milk, and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract with a fork until smooth and creamy. Add more milk if needed to achieve the desired consistency. Now, hold the berries by their stems and deip them into the cream cheese then roll them in the sugar.

They are really yummy!

Good Morning DDA,

Happy 4th to all!!

We're back! We had a Great Time visiting the Mouse in his House, there were a few Cons, but mostly Pros. This was the second time we were at WDW when someone died, the first was in the 90's when a worker fell off the Skyway and this time was the boy on RNR, I can't imagine the pain his family is going through. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

I'm not a good trip reporter but I'll share some photo's later, as you can see I've updated my signature with the official DDA, WDW photo. I hesitated to do it as I hate pictures of my big behind, but what the heck, here goes nothing. I've got tons of pictures to sort through, thanks to info here on the DDA I went Photopass Crazy and purchased the CD so I have all of those to play with also.

Here's one of my all time favorites of my DGS, his favorite character was Stitch, (guess that's because they have so much in common) and he feel asleep with his Stitch hands on.

Hello everyone.

Well today is day 3 in the hospital for my mom and the doctors still don't know where the infection is. :(

:grouphug: for you and your mom!

My recap page is filling up, but I have to go for now, so page 2842 will have to wait for a few hours.

Have a good morning/day all.

I didn't even realize I was in the back of the photo until after. I guess some habits die hard. I do try to put myself out front more.

Glynis, I love hearing you talk about your canning with so much enthusiasm. Chuck would like to can but I just can't bring myself to do it. Listening to you makes me a little more excited about it.

When I was growing up, we had to can because it was so much cheaper (even to buy some of the fruit & vegetables we didn't grow ourselves). It was a necessity. I do remember how much I loved seeing all those jars lined up on the shelves. I really miss my mothers applesauce. There is nothing better in the world. However, it was a lot of work and I came to hate it. Mom also had to sew my clothes anytime that I got new ones because we couldn't afford to buy new. Sometimes, it was great because mine were unique but sometimes I just wanted to be like the other kids. That is why I have an aversion for sewing which I'm trying to break.

I know about all the work. There are days when I'm doing tomatoes from morning until evening, that I curse the day my mother taught me how to can. I feel the same way about sewing. My sister can sew anything, and make it look like it came from a depatment store, but I just can't do that. My stuff all looks homemade. My kids are getting to the age where that's just not cool anymore!

Hi everyone, hope you enjoyed your 4th of July!!!

We finally got to see Cars on Saturday...very cute! Mater was the best!
Had my son's baseball birthday party on Sunday. Went really well. The kids got to go in the pool & right after dinner the sky opened up so dessert was inside. Monday we went to the beach..beautiful..the kids didn't want to leave. Yesterday we went to Teddy Roosevelt's house on the North Shore of LI, Sagamore Hill. TR was there to speak to the crowd,(he really look & spoke like TR) shook hands, & took pictures with people. He made this really nice patriotic speech which was written almost 100 years ago but still stands true today about standing together & not separate as American's. Anyway, the house is lovely & the kids loved the Rough Riders reinactment. They got a close up look at all the horses & of course a trip to the gift shop for "teddy bears". There were fireworks from our local beach that we watched from the window...too crowded for us to drive down there. Well that sums up our long weekend.

Great pictures everyone!
