 I don't know what you're talking about that's happening tomorrow but good luck!

Long story -- very short version -- constant harassment by a PT throughout the election cycle. Very threatening (to my job not my person) comments made about me by the PT on Wednesday after I refused to jump on the Obama bandwagon. I filed a complaint Thursday morning.

Off and on...he woke up whining a lot. I think he misses his momma.

I just couldn't leave him in the kennel, so he just cuddled up to me. I got up a couple of time to take him potty, but he was so cold, he just sat there and shivered.

We still haven't decided on a name yet...The girls like Trig, but the males in the household aren't so keen on it. I like Max, too (our secret code!) The kids also suggested Jack, as in Captain Jack. My youngest DD likes Todd.

:confused3

I know the feeling about the kennel. We have a 4 month old Doxie - who loves to get underneath the covers. I like Max. I also like Cap'n Jack -- Jack for short. I know how hard it is to figure out a name.

I saw this somewhere...

"If the GOP is smart, they will sit all these guys down sometime in the next year and discuss this. Otherwise, we will end up with the exact same fiasco we had this past year. They should tell Jindal, Palin, Sanford, Cantor, and others that their time will come. They are young enough to wait a term or two. They should build on their resumes by gaining seats on committees and chairmanships.

Palin should try to win re-election as Governor and then win a Senate seat before running again. She is only 44 and has plenty of time.

Jindal should be easily re-elected in Louisiana and then try for a Senate seat as well before running. He is only 37, don't waste his political career so early.

Cantor should maybe try for Senate seat or win a Governor seat before running. He is also very young.

Ryan is also very young and should try for more experience in a Governor seat or Cabinet spot since he is a Policy Wonk extraordinaire.

In a nutshell, the GOP should run out Huckabee, Romney, Gingrich, and Giuliani. Let those guys fight it out during the Primaries and let the winner take on Obama. The young guard will then be better poised for 2016 if we lose in 2012, which we will if Obama is even remotely successful during his first term."

well....
i don't want to sound negative right out of the gate, but i have a feeling that obama may be a two term president, unless he royally messes up...
if he just does ok, it might still be hard to defeat him...

first and foremost, because while people supposedly want "change" they're actually quite afraid of change...

so if he's not so bad, he'll have a good chance of sticking around...

so that puts us to 2016....in which case it will be the young guard all the way..
palin will definitely be ready by then....

so i guess i'm saying let the old guard run in 2012 so as not to damage the reputation of the young guard..

or maybe not...

who knows..

the only reason obama won in my view, is the financial crisis...
had the bottom not fallen out of the economy, he might well have been on the losing side..

so who knows what will be in 2012....who knows if we'll even be here...

4 years is a long time...

i only wish it had been one of those guys this time around.....i was not a mccain fan.....the only reason i got fired up was palin...
i would have been much happier with pretty much anyone besides mccain as the lead on the ticket....

Okay, I might've missed seeing this Peter Hitchens article mentioned 'cuz this thread moves so fast, but in case you haven't seen it, here's just the beginning:

The night we waved goodbye to America... our last best hope on Earth Last updated at 9:52 PM on 08th November 2008

"Anyone would think we had just elected a hip, skinny and youthful replacement for God, with a plan to modernise Heaven and Hell – or that at the very least John Lennon had come back from the dead.

The swooning frenzy over the choice of Barack Obama as President of the United States must be one of the most absurd waves of self-deception and swirling fantasy ever to sweep through an advanced civilisation. At least Mandela-worship – its nearest equivalent – is focused on a man who actually did something.

I really don’t see how the Obama devotees can ever in future mock the Moonies, the Scientologists or people who claim to have been abducted in flying saucers. This is a cult like the one which grew up around Princess Diana, bereft of reason and hostile to facts.

It already has all the signs of such a thing. The newspapers which recorded Obama’s victory have become valuable relics. You may buy Obama picture books and Obama calendars and if there isn’t yet a children’s picture version of his story, there soon will be. "

I love that last part ... I saw a children's book advertised online last night called "Mama Voted for Obama" which will help you "tell your children the story of how you took part in history". :sad2:

I don't agree with this.
Huckabee isn't appealing.

Romney has the Mormon baggage.

Guiliani has the 9/11 baggage. He was great for that event but I think in people's minds, Giuliani=disaster.

Gingrich=best choice of the 4 but he's kind of an also ran. He doesn't bring anything new and fresh.

Palin won't have a run for at least 2 election cycles. The voters need time to forget.

If the Republicans want to have a chance, they need their own version of change and they need a fresh face,eg. Jindal, Cantor, he's Jewish but I don't think the voters will care.

Jindal has served in Washington as Assistant Secretary of Health and Human Services for Planning and Evaluation. He was later unanimously confirmed by a bipartisan vote of the United States Senate and began serving on July 9, 2001. In that position, he served as the principal policy advisor to the Secretary of Health and Human Services.[11] He resigned from that post on February 21, 2003, to return to Louisiana and run for governor.[12]

He looks like the best bet unless he chooses not to run or to wait a couple of cycles. He has, as far as I can tell, no skeletons in his closet.

Thanks for your thoughts. I really didn't know myself what to think, after reading that on the internet. It's been such a full week, and 2012 seems so far off...my head is kind of spinning!

But I like hearing what others around the country think. So thank you! :goodvibes

(By the way, when I post stuff on here about Palin, it isn't because I definitely think she should run in 2012. I really like her stand on issues, and her ability to energize people, but I don't know what is best for her and the country that far out. I just share info. on her because I have a closer tie up here in Wasilla, for those of you who are interested in what's going on with her. I don't want to seem like a pest.)

I love Sarah and I hope that she does run in the future! Thanks for sharing what you know!!!! I love reading it,:)
The Republicans I think saw she can energize the party but I think they will really want to win in 2012 and the damage that the press did to her will take time in the public's mind to dissipate. That's why I think if she runs for the Senate and is elected, and then the Rep. win, that POTUS can appoint her to high profile positions (cabinet) and thus garner some positive attention on her smarts. It would make her more bullet proof to the MSM claims that she is dumb.

/
I also see Jindal as a great choice in 2012. I need to start paying closer attention to him. If they (reps) put a decent candidate in there, I would vote for them. I just don't see the party waking up.

snip...
Conservative Party (United States), in the United States, political party in New York State, formed in 1962, and espousing a conservative philosophy. Although numerous candidates throughout the nation seek office as conservatives, the Conservative Party of New York State is the only party legally constituted as such in America. The party stresses firm belief in the American tradition of individual initiative and liberty. The growth of the liberal wing of the Republican Party in New York distressed conservative Republicans in the state and led to formation of the Conservative Party as a more distinct alternative to liberalism.

The party is active primarily in the local politics of New York City, but had a membership in the state of about 120,000 in the mid-1980s. The New York Conservative Party achieved its only significant statewide victory in 1970, when its candidate, James L. Buckley, running against Democratic and Republican opponents, won election to the U.S. Senate with a plurality of less than 40 percent of the total votes cast. Since 1976, when Buckley lost a reelection bid, none of the party's candidates has won major elective office solely on the Conservative line.

...snip
Very interesting. NY huh? Who knew?

Definitely conservative first. I have really been drifting away from the Republican party but don't know where to go. I may have even voted Libertarian but McCain added Palin to the ticket. She brought me back to him. I was just sick of him "reaching across the aisle". Every time he did this he walked over the backs of the Republicans who were standing their ground on an issue. Why do we always have to be the ones that reach out. Can't the Dems come across to us once in a while?

I am not sure that the republican party understands that some of us feel this way.

That is exactly how I feel. Let's call Sean next week!

I am getting concerned about the talk lately that the Republican party needs to be more moderate. I don't think so.
Un:scared1: believable

This is what the world really thinks about us.

I found this interesting:

Most of us are, by now, familiar with the maps the TV channels and web sites use to show the results of the presidential election. The states are colored red or blue to indicate whether a majority of their voters voted for the Republican candidate, John McCain, or the Democratic candidate, Barack Obama, respectively. Looking at this map it gives the impression that the Republicans won the election handily, since there is rather more red on the map than there is blue. In fact, however, the reverse is true – the Democrats won by a substantial margin. The explanation for this apparent paradox, as pointed out by many people, is that the map fails to take account of the population distribution. It fails to allow for the fact that the population of the red states is on average significantly lower than that of the blue ones. The blue may be small in area, but they represent a large number of voters, which is what matters in an election.

1-1.png

We can correct for this by making use of a cartogram, a map in which the sizes of states are rescaled according to their population. That is, states are drawn with size proportional not to their acreage but to the number of their inhabitants, states with more people appearing larger than states with fewer, regardless of their actual area on the ground. On such a map, for example, the state of Rhode Island, with its 1.1 million inhabitants, would appear about twice the size of Wyoming, which has half a million, even though Wyoming has 60 times the acreage of Rhode Island.

Here are the 2008 presidential election results on a population cartogram of this type:

2-1.png

We can represent the effects of the electoral college by scaling the sizes of states to be proportional to their number of electoral votes, which gives a map that looks like this:

3.png

But we can go further. We can do the same thing also with the county-level election results and the images are even more striking. Here is a map of US counties, again colored red and blue to indicate Republican and Democratic majorities respectively:

4-1.png

However, this map is still somewhat misleading because we have colored every county either red or blue, as if every voter voted the same way. This is of course not realistic: all counties contain both Republican and Democratic supporters and in using just the two colors on our map we lose any information about the balance between them. There is no way to tell whether a particular county went strongly for one candidate or the other or whether it was relatively evenly split.

One way to improve the map and reveal more nuance in the vote is to use not just two colors, red and blue, but to use red, blue, and shades of purple in between to indicate percentages of votes. Here is what the normal map looks like if you do this:

5-2.png

And here's what the cartogram looks like. As this map makes clear, large portions of the country are quite evenly divided, appearing in various shades of purple, although a number of strongly Democratic (blue) areas are visible too, mostly in the larger cities. There are also some strongly Republican areas, but most of them have relatively small populations and hence appear quite small on this map.

Man, that made me sad...even the folks overseas can see better than 52% of us. And I am happy the 52% part was in there. We're all NOT like that!

Heard about this website from teamsarah --

http://reaganaction.com/

It's from Micheal, son of Ron -- about taking back the RNC and going after a more grassroots effort. I signed up - hope it works.

Speaking of grassroots -- Howard Dean said that this is what got BO elected. That sounds about right because I can't imagine that voter fraud, manipulation of superdelegates, illegal donations, and a kool-aid-drinking MSM could have helped any....:sad2:

(On a funny note...my brother sent me a message on my Facebook this morning that he saw I had joined the "Yes We Did!" group. He was so excited and happy. I have no idea how that got on my profile...:confused3

Anyway, I wrote him back and cleared things up...:rotfl2:

I'm here, and I need to read where I left off last night. But right now I have some important news to share.

John Boehner is supposed to try to stay on as the Republican House Minority leader. This is unacceptable if we want to actually start changing the GOP. He has yet to form a cohesive argument against the Democrats. The man has also managed to be at the helm when we've lost 20% total of our caucus under his tenure. In short, he needs to go.

The problem is, Dan Lungren wants to be the one to challenge Boehner for the job. Lungren is conservative on some things, but Lungren has a lower rating from the ACU (American Conservative Union) than Boehner does. His main problematic area is he's seen as "anti-gun." In other words, he's for heavy restrictions on the 2nd Amendment as far as I can tell. Now, I personally agree with neither party on gun control. I believe we need some regulations for safety's sake, but not so much that law abiding citizens have to jump through 50 hoops to exercise their Constitutional right to own a gun. But my concern with Lungren is if Obama is going to go after gun laws like we think he is, then we need a counterpoint to that. He already made the comment that he wasn't seeking to ban handguns but followed it up with "But even if I wanted to, I wouldn't have the votes." Which to me means he would love to ban them if he could. So, Lungren is unacceptable.

I don't know who would be a good alternative. Some are saying Mike Pence. Does anyone know anything about him? Would he be a good choice?

The point is, we need to start making our voices heard NOW. So I am suggesting we start Operation ROAR: Run Out All RINOS (in charge). :rotfl:

Our first mission needs to be to get Boehner booted out of his leadership position and get a real conservative in who can articulate the conservative message. I will be writing my Republican (conservative) Congressman tonight hopefully and making my feelings known, i.e. that Boehner needs to go and we need a real, tough conservative who can unify the caucus and message in his place. I will follow it up with a phone call to the Hill tomorrow. I urge all of you with Republican Congress men or women to do the same ASAP.

I am getting concerned about the talk lately that the Republican party needs to be more moderate. I don't think so.

Not Moderate. Moderates lost this election. Here in CA we elected Obama. But in the same election the vote for or against the propositions went decidedly conservative. This in a BLUE state! If we run conservatives we win if we run moderates, the moderates vote for the Democrat.

I saw this somewhere...

What are your thoughts?

"If the GOP is smart, they will sit all these guys down sometime in the next year and discuss this. Otherwise, we will end up with the exact same fiasco we had this past year. I agree. But I think that much of the thought process is on the Presidential race and not enough on the congressional end where I think we really lost. In two years we have another congressional election. Republicans need to be seriously thinking about what they're going to do to win back seats. (we did it with the Contract with America) I certainly wish Obama the best in his Presidency, because if he does well we all prosper but in reality... The Democrats run everything now. And, I'll tell ya... they don't too well when they are running everything. (citation: Presidents Carter and Clinton) When they fail (and they will) we need to be ready with strong conservative voices. If we perform strongly in 2010 then we will be poised to take the White House in 2012. If not, then it will be 2016 before we can wrest contol from the libs. And there's a whole lot of damage that can be done between now and then.

I don't agree with this.
Huckabee isn't appealing.

Huckabee had difficulty getting his message across. Reagan repeated the same themes throughout his campaign in order to make it clear to everyone where he stands. The Republicans were too busy sticking their fingers in the wind to build a cohesive message. Huckabee would be more appealing if he kept hammering a conservative message.

Romney has the Mormon baggage.

Really, who cares? we just elected a President whose minister is an avowed America Hater.

Guiliani has the 9/11 baggage. He was great for that event but I think in people's minds, Giuliani=disaster.

I really like Guiliani, I could sit down and have a beer with him and have great political discussions. But for a Candidate? Too Liberal.

Gingrich=best choice of the 4 but he's kind of an also ran. He doesn't bring anything new and fresh.

I've always liked Gingrich. His "Contract with America" turned American politics upside down. Too bad that once the media lynched him, the Republicans ran for cover and lost their political backbone. While I normally eschew the notion that the media has tarnished someone too much in order for them to be effective, I make two exceptions: Dan Quayle and Newt Gingrich. Sorry, Newt, I love ya but they destroyed you.

Palin won't have a run for at least 2 election cycles. The voters need time to forget.

Absolutely disagree with this one. Voters forget far faster than that! Remember Palin energized a cadaverous campaign! Wherever she went huge crowds followed. The media attacked her relentlessly because her charisma scared the bejesus out of them. Palin needs to keep out in front of the public eye (either with the Senate seat in her own state or some other means) and sharpen her teeth on national and international matters then she will be difficult to stop. She amazed me at how she would enrapture a crowd. Michael Reagan said himself that it was like seeing his Dad again.

If the Republicans want to have a chance, they need their own version of change and they need a fresh face,eg. Jindal, Cantor, he's Jewish but I don't think the voters will care.

Jindal Rocks. But I think that he wisely stayed out of this last debacle. He'll be primed for next time though.

CARIBOU!!! We have a max... I found out afterwards that it is the most popular male dog name in the USA. DS named him as it was his birthday present when he turned 11.

Yes, get involved. That is what it is going to take from the bottom up. Thank you for encouraging us. :)
