AAAACCCKKKKK!!

And I saw on another thread someone thought they should end term limits to accommodate this awesome president, who has never done anything and is not even in office yet.:scared1:

It will be a very LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG 4 years (hopefully 4).:surfweb:

Well, he has done something. He has leaked the private, confidential meeting he had with the president yesterday. Bush is angry. See Drudge. If he didn't leak it himself, which is grossly unprofessional, he doesn't have control over his staff and that I doubt.

Coleman-Franken Audit Precedes Minn. Recount

Tuesday, November 11, 2008 11:33 AM

A ballot-by-ballot audit of the results that originally gave U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn., a paper-thin lead over his challenger, liberal comedian Al Franken, isn’t moving either candidate’s total much.

The county-by-county tally precedes the official statewide recount that begins on Nov. 19, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

As of Monday, Coleman’s lead had slipped from 725 votes out of about 2.9 million cast Nov. 4 to 204 Monday. That original slim margin triggered the need for the Nov. 19 recount.

The newspaper described the audit as a sneak preview of the statewide recount, reporting that 20 men and women at the Ramsey County elections office in St. Paul started Monday morning checking 7,700 of the ballots cast in the Senate race on Election Day.

After the first three hours of counting, Coleman had lost one net vote in five of the county's precincts, while Franken had gained one. On Election Day, Franken garnered 52 percent of the vote in the urban county, to Coleman’s 34 percent.

"You take the ballots out, you count them by hand and you report the results — exactly what we'll be doing” with the recount, Joe Mansky, the county elections director in charge of what is known as a "postelection audit," told the Star Tribune.

This audit process functionally is meant to check the accuracy of Minnesota's optical scan voting machines and is not related to the Nov. 19 recount.

"Every vote is counted, by hand, with only election judges and elections staffers touching them," the paper wrote, explaining that the whole process is open to the public and takes place in the presence of good-government volunteers and operatives of the two campaigns.

"I'm just watching like everyone else," John Stiles, a DFL spokesman who had staked out one corner of the conference room, told the Star Tribune. "It all seems pretty straightforward to me."

Coleman volunteer John Nygaard said, "It's very transparent. I'm impressed. I didn't realize how much work went into this."

HAPPY VETERAN'S DAY!!!!

I don't come from a military family but have always respected the sacrifices made by our soldiers and their families. Being on this board has made me appreciate this so much more.

Bob Dole was asked what it was like being the greatest generation, as a veteran of WWII. He replied, 'That doesn't describe us anymore - We've passed that mantle onto this new generation of soldiers fighting for us in Iraq and Afghanistan. They're the greatest generation now.'

Here is a new site debuting today --

http://www.greatamericans.com/

from their site:

Great Americans is a movement to celebrate those whose lives offer a positive example to others. As the first step in the pursuit of this vision, GreatAmericans.com is dedicated to men and women in uniform who put their lives at risk to protect our nation at home and abroad. Great Americans is a celebration of their service, their sacrifice, and their example to us all.

I would look at it but I'm at work and I don't think I need to be blubbering all over my keyboard right now.

I'm sure this won't be a popular opinion among the kool-aid drinking masses:

Georgia congressman warns of Obama dictatorship
By BEN EVANS – 18 hours ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Republican congressman from Georgia said Monday he fears that President-elect Obama will establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist or fascist dictatorship.

"It may sound a bit crazy and off base, but the thing is, he's the one who proposed this national security force," Rep. Paul Broun said of Obama in an interview Monday with The Associated Press. "I'm just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may — may not, I hope not — but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism."

Broun cited a July speech by Obama that has circulated on the Internet in which the then-Democratic presidential candidate called for a civilian force to take some of the national security burden off the military.

"That's exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it's exactly what the Soviet Union did," Broun said. "When he's proposing to have a national security force that's answering to him, that is as strong as the U.S. military, he's showing me signs of being Marxist."

Obama's comments about a national security force came during a speech in Colorado about building a new civil service corps. Among other things, he called for expanding the nation's foreign service and doubling the size of the Peace Corps "to renew our diplomacy."

"We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set," Obama said in July. "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."

Broun said he also believes Obama likely will move to ban gun ownership if he does build a national police force.

Obama has said he respects the Second Amendment right to bear arms and favors "common sense" gun laws. Gun rights advocates interpret that as meaning he'll at least enact curbs on ownership of assault weapons and concealed weapons. As an Illinois state lawmaker, Obama supported a ban on semiautomatic weapons and tighter restrictions on firearms generally.

"We can't be lulled into complacency," Broun said. "You have to remember that Adolf Hitler was elected in a democratic Germany. I'm not comparing him to Adolf Hitler. What I'm saying is there is the potential."

Obama's transition office did not respond immediately to Broun's remarks.

I thought it was the Office of the President-elect and not Obama's transition office? :confused3 Get with it reporters!

Oh Dawn. You are so good finding something that our boy did!:thumbsup2
He is not making a good first impression.

OK From now on I would like to earn $1 for every time Rush says the word "creepy".

Happy Veteran's Day!

To all our vets and their families, thank you for keeping our country safe and free. Your sacrifices are very much appreciated and I pray for you daily.

I haven't been watching the news - been catching up on laundry and some housework. I have two kids home kind of sick today, so I think I'll be in the basement filing for most of the day.

Sounds like my day...I've got two sick as well...and I've got paperwork to do, too.

Hope your kiddos feel better.

Nice succinct column by Michael Steele today.

Listen. Adapt. Be Positive

My favorite excerpt

Our challenge lies not in beating Democrats, but in uniting around a message that solidifies our ranks and attracts new people to our cause. We have to listen to what Americans are telling us about their hopes, desires and needs, and then translate that message into proposals for meaningful action squarely grounded on the values we Republicans have always stood for.
Our faith in the power and ingenuity of the individual to build a nation through hard work, personal responsibility and self-discipline is our uniting principle. That is the sacred ground upon which our Republican Party was built. For the sake of all Americans, it is the ground we must reclaim.

!

So, what's That One up to today? I haven't been watching the news - been catching up on laundry and some housework. I have two kids home kind of sick today, so I think I'll be in the basement filing for most of the day.

Have a great one!

I feel crappy today too. Yesterday, I had a little vertigo incident. Went to the doc and told him that a spot behind my right ear bothered me. He said it could be the beginning of mastoiditis. I'm on antibiotics and I hope they work, otherwise, CT scan and possible surgery-YUCK! I'm going to WDW come hell or high water. He can put me on IV antibiotics that I can carry with me but I AM GOING. I need the trip for a mental health break.

I'm sure this won't be a popular opinion among the kool-aid drinking masses:

Sadly, I'm beginning to think that it will be a popular opinion. I used to think the liberal line was at least drawn at Communism, but I'm starting to think I was wrong.

:sad2: This is what I've feared all along. The M Candidate is in. The wolf was at the door and we just invited him in to have dinner - now he's going to take over.

With the radical communist agenda that I fear Obama has planned for this country - the only way he can ensure another 4 years is by brute force. IMO, this is why he needs the civilian national security force.

Gird your loins folks, I think we're in for some interesting times....!

Uh, oh.... Another dose of reality for Obama and his supporters. The WSJ is reporting that Obama is likely to keep in place many of Bush's counter-terrorism policies and executive orders after briefings from pragmatic security advisers. Ironically, Obama and civil-liberty groups blasted Bush for many of these "secretive" policies while on the campaign trail.

It's also funny to see that the Puffington Post has noted the WSJ story... and has disabled reader comments to it! I guess they don't want people criticizing The One.

:rotfl: Wow, guess they're getting their first taste of stifling freedom of speech. And this comes from their own kind. :rotfl:

Adding insult to injury, Politico has noted that Obama, due to not accepting federal campaign funds, will likely escape a likely embarrassing detailed federal audit of his campaign contributions (including his notoriously lax on-line donation system) and spending... while McCain must endure such an audit, that will likely take a few years and cost millions of his dollars, by federal law as a condition of accepting the public funds. The only way such an audit of Obama will take place is if the FEC specifically votes to authorize one. Given the partisan nature of such votes in the past, no one believes that is likely to happen.

Ugh...trouble on the homefront.

Background:
My DS (19) let me use his computer awhile ago (mine wasn't available). I was logged into my email account. My brother sent me an invitation to be a friend on Facebook. I accepted, but the computer logged into my son's account, and added him as his friend. Oops. We joked about it. Oh well, no biggie...right?

Wrong.

This week, my son joined a conservative political group on Facebook. He is a conservative Christian young man. He is interested in the future of the Republican party, and politics. My brother saw this, and went to the site. He didn't like their stand against same-sex marriage, as this applies to him. He sent my son this long, very hurtful email saying that he and his partner want not only to be tolerated or accepted, but treated equally. He said by not sanctioning same-sex marriage we are attacking him. He said it is judgemental, and he is insulted.

Now...my son did not say one word to my brother. All he did was join a conservative political group on Facebook.

My brother said that his relationship with my son now feels superficial. He said he felt insulted and rejected by my son.

We are going out to my mother's...all of us...to celebrate Christmas and her 70th birthday. Now we have this over it all.

My poor son. He has finals and such the next few weeks, and he didn't need this laid on him. I think it is so rude of my brother, and really out of line.

And I feel so terrible because I am the one who accidentally made him a friend on Facebook.

(sigh...)...not the best way to start the day. :sad2:

I don't know what to say - your poor son, being blindsided like this....

:grouphug:

P.S. it wasn't your fault or your son's fault - your brother is taking offense about something completely out of your son's control...to rail at your son like this, whatever the issue, is wrong

Your brother accused his nephew of being judgmental for joining a facebook group?? So is your brother not being judgmental by making assumptions about his nephew based on something so trivial?? Does anyone subscribe to every single view of any group they are affiliated with?? He's not setting a very good example for that which he expects his nephew to model. He really should not have been so impulsive and allowed his emotions to dictate his response.
