What is it about Republicans who get into office and then start acting like Democrats? Our lovely RINO governator here in CA is now trying to tax us up the wazoo. He wants to increase our sales tax by 1.5% which would bring us to 10.25% here in L.A. County. And he wants to start taxing us on things we don't currently pay taxes on. WTH?!

She cant appoint herself according to Alaska law, but she can run in a special election

From today's paper:

"If Stevens resigns or is expelled from the Senate, there would be a special election to pick his replacement.

Would Palin run?

"Not planning on that, no, not planning on that. Just being very thankful to get to hustle back to my governor's office here and get to work as the governor," Palin said."

I should know better from now on not to venture from my safe haven home here on this thread...:sad2: :sad2: :sad2: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Now they're over there making fun of Joe the Plumber saying why was he on welfare twice if he doesn't want handouts. Sigh. Can't they just let things go? I mean really, does Joe the Plumber really have any impact on anything these days? It's not like he's running for any sort of office... :confused3

Palin, back at work, calls criticism cruel

Gov. Sarah Palin returned to work in her Anchorage office Friday afternoon and spoke out against anonymously sourced stories critical of her behavior on the campaign trail, saying "it's immature, it's unprofessional and those guys are jerks."

A pack of local and national media was waiting for Palin, back to work at the governor's office for the first time since becoming a candidate for vice president more than two months ago.

The governor talked about her future in national politics, if Sen. Ted Stevens should resign, her rocky relationship with Democrats and anonymous criticism from John McCain campaign staffers who claim she went on a clothes-shopping spree with Republican Party money and didn't know Africa is a continent and not a country.

"If there are allegations based on questions or comments I made in debate prep about NAFTA, about the continent versus the country when we talk about Africa there, then those were taken out of context. And that's cruel, it's mean-spirited, it's immature, it's unprofessional and those guys are jerks if they came away with it taking things out of context, then tried to spread something on national news. It's not fair, it's not right," Palin said.

Much of the sniping by anonymous McCain staffers in media outlets like Newsweek and Fox News in recent days is over the Republican National Committee's purchase of more than $150,000 in clothes for Palin as well as her family.

"Those are the RNC's clothes, they are not my clothes. I never forced anybody to buy anything. I never asked for anything more than maybe a diet Dr Pepper every once in a while," she said.

"It's just very, very disappointing because this is Barack Obama's time right now. And this is an historic moment in our nation and this can be a shining moment for America in our history. And look what we're talking about again -- we're talking about my shoes and belts and skirts. This is ridiculous. Let's talk about progressing this nation."

Asked if she believes any of the criticism she's now facing is sexist, Palin said she sees a double standard.

"I don't know if anybody's asking Barack Obama, for instance, who did your makeup before you went on stage. But they've been asking me," Palin said.

Palin scolded the news media for its coverage, saying it's hard to have a defense for stories based on anonymous sources, including claimed tension between Palin and McCain camps.

"I know that I know that I know that there was nothing done wrong in the campaign, that John McCain and I have a great relationship, I honor him, I love him, I still wish that he were the president elect," Palin said.

She said she spoke to McCain by phone Friday morning. He was disgusted too, and told campaign staffers to knock off the critcism, she said.

It always bothered me ...that he's married to a Kennedy. I would think "the wife" has influence over hubby.

Blestmom...Thank you for this quote.:goodvibes I so want to use it in my siggie.:lmao:

To which I must ask... Why the heck isn't he on TV putting a public stop to this nonsense?!!! To say I'm steamed at McCain is an understatement. Now, granted, I am entertaining the possibility that Sarah told him don't bother to publically denounce it. But knowing his track record of trying to befriend liberals and annoy conservatives, the benefit of the doubt isn't something I'm willing to give him very easily on this.

The way I see it, she's the reason McCain came as close as he did. If he can use her to try and get elected, then he can step away from the grill for ten minutes and give a satellite interview to someone, anyone, putting the kibosh on this garbage.

Anybody also notice that the new OS thread is countdown to inaguration, something else and FLOWERS. :flower3: Hmm, we must be so cool they want to copy us 'cause we had that first! :rotfl2:  :rotfl: :rotfl2:  :rotfl:

She is crazy if she does not run.....8 years in the senate would remove all questions of knowledge and experience

I did see that, and I laughed. I decided to read a bit, but not post, because I get rather ticked when they post over here. Anyways, they're gloating far too much right now. I'm hoping they remember this in 2010, when we take back Congress.

I understand the need for money. CA is deeply in debt and the Dems in our state legislature spend money likes there's no tomorrow. But come on! People are losing they're homes and jobs and they are supposed to be able to pay such a huge tax increase? Where is the sense in that? :confused3

I just want to give her a hug. Anyone who doesn't think sexism is alive and well is is on crack.

I'm getting tired. I think I'll call it a night. I seemed to have cleared out the room anyway. :surfweb:

Okay, this is totally OT, but I need some advice. Conservatives are generally careful with spending, so I figured this was the place to ask. ;) I am looking at my handy dandy charts that I made earlier tonight showing the rates of various WDW resorts with this new 7 for the price of 4 deal. Here's what I came up with for 3 adults, 8 nights in May, 8 day park hopper pass:

Caribbean Beach or Riverside (water view): $2,104.41
Animal Kingdom Lodge or Wilderness Lodge (standard view): $2,728.65
Wilderness Lodge (courtyard view): $3,000.60
Animal Kingdom Lodge (Savannah view): $3,122.49
Polynesian (Garden view): $3,422.28

We paid around $4,000 for our 7 day hopper tickets and 9 nights at WL (courtyard view) this May. So, I'm presented with a unique opportunity here. My parents and I go on two family vacations a year, and they pay (my parents are quite awesome, btw). WL in 2005 and 2008 was a graduation present to me, as they can't really afford that price for a resort. All of these prices above are well below what we paid last year. My dad asked the price of Riverside tonight, and I also tossed in the price for the Grand (which was $3,600) and the Poly, pointing out the difference between what he paid this year on the latter two. :rolleyes1 I would love to go back to WL. I'm iffy about the Poly. But my dad has wanted to stay there since it opened. It's, for whatever reason, his Disney dream. Mine is a Magic Kingdom tower view room at the Contemporary, but I'm waiting on my imaginary lottery winnings to come in the mail before I ever even think about that. :rotfl: My mom said he talked about the Poly all the time in the 70s when they got married. He talks about it hardly at all these days, dismissing it as too expensive.

So, question: Is the Poly worth is? Is garden view worth it? Has anyone stayed there? I'd be a happy clam staying in a Standard room at my beloved WL, but I'm wondering if I should do a wink, wink, nudge, nudge with my dad to get him to go with the Poly since he may never have another chance to stay there that cheaply.

If you had the above options, what would you do?

Okay, Gov Palin -- here it is:

I added the sparkles myself because, once again I see that you are a kindred spirit -- Diet Dr P is my drink of choice...

What a class act, by the way -- reminding the press that their attention should be directed towards their POTUS-elect and not to her shoes. You go, girl! I do wish there had been another POTUS-elect though...

Before I sign off - just wanted to re-visit something mentioned way up thread - monkeys on crack.....

Don't know much about that one but I do wonder what this guy is going to do when that caffeine catches up with him --

And here I was squaking when our Dem governor raised our sales tax from 4.5% to 5%.

The Poly IS so worth it. It has always been my first choice at WDW.(except..now I have DVC...it has to be my first choice.) I have stayed in a garden view, MK view and concierge....loved them all.

I love the Poly so much....I have gardenia bushes (about 20) and tiki torches in my backyard. They remind me of the Poly.

Ca taxs are 7.75% I thought :confused3 LA is 8.2% Each district is a little differnt byt most range from 7.75-8.25 percent.

I think it is a good idea....we need to so something to get out of this debt.....we just passed a hike in my town for an increase so to add moneys to our fire man and police and Emergency needs in our town. So between that and this we will be paying more.

Than if Obama raises Taxes we are in for it there also.

Do you have a trip report or review anywhere here on the DIS? If I might push this, I need to be armed with facts. And I know zip about the Poly, other than: I know the restaurants but have never eaten there; I looked in the gift shops there in May on our way out of town; and my dad went over there one morning and brought us back at WL the Tonga Toast from Captain Cook's. That Tonga Toast was so good... :worship:

Normally I would agree with you, but unless I am totally unaware of some big scandal, Jindal is the real deal. He reminds me of Sarah in the fact that once he got in the Governor's office, he started cleaning house and kicking the hides of some of the corruption-oriented officials clear out of town. He also passed the toughest ethics laws of any state not long after taking office.

The biggest thing I've seen anyone throw at him so far is a few stupid sheeple saying (with no proof, naturally) that he converted from Hinduism to Catholicism just to pursue public office later. And some people have their noses bent out of joint because he once wrote a paper that talked about exorcism. To which I say: Big whoop. Tell it to someone who cares. :surfweb:
That's why I said good, long, hard look instead of ignore completely. :goodvibes
If he's a great conservative and the libs like him and he runs we'll stand a very good chance of getting control back in 2012.
And if they don't like our candidate, we're still taking it back in 2012. :rotfl:
